For the McAllister in Walnut Calf, we recommend using Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner, Walnut Premium Shoe Polish, and Neutral Carnauba Wax when caring for your shoes.
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. Allen Edmonds Shoe Polish is best used for regular polishing and achieving a lustrous glow and Carnauba Wax is known for imparting a richer glow to fine leathers. The choice between Shoe Polish and Carnauba Wax really comes down to individual preference on how shiny or rich in color you want your Allen Edmonds shoes to be. Our Walnut Premium Shoe Polish, however, is the most popular option.

Our McAllister style is constructed on our 5-Last (65), which is the longest in length of our lasts and is the best fit for a long, narrow foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of oneâs feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. The Verona, however, is a member of our Italian Collection and so has a Bologna construction method which most resembles that of our Handsewn styles.
Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Both the McAllister and the MacNeil styles are great for business and casual wear alike. The McAllister is a balmoral style dress shoe constructed on our 5-Last; this last shape is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. As a member of our Timeless Classics collection, the McAllister is one of our long-time favorite among customers. The MacNeil is a blucher style dress shoe, allowing for more room at the instep, constructed on our 7-Last which is the best fit for the average foot and lays flatter in the toe area. The MacNeil is available in calfskin like the McAllister, but is also a member of our Cordovan Collection which is made from genuine Horween shell cordovan.
Ultimately, what each individual chooses to pair their Allen Edmonds with is their own decision; we encourage customers to purchase and wear what they feel most comfortable in.

The MacNeil is a longwing - the wing tip portion extends all the way around the shoe. The McAllister is a traditional wing tip where the wingtip only goes about half way back.
The MacNeil is on the 7 last versus the 5 last for the McAllister. The 7 last us much more fuller fitting than the 5 last which tends to run narrower than other lasts.
The MacNeil has a double sole versus the McAllister's single sole.
As far as business wear - both would be equally appropriate for business wear in my opinion.
