McAllister - Wingtip Lace-up Oxford Men's Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

First introduced in 1956 and brought back by popular demand in 2009, this model is our ode to a style that dates back hundreds of years. You see, originally, the wingtip gained popularity in Scotland because its secondary trim provided extra protection from the Highland's rocky crags and its perforations allowed water to drain from shoe as a highlander traversed boggy landscapes. Over the years, this dress brogue has remained a must-have model because its traditional 5-Last fit, sturdy leather sole and the strength conveyed by the short wings instill a sense of confidence to anyone who wears them. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the perfing on the wing, throat and backstay along with the pinking and intricate toe medallion also make these shoes as refined as they are enduring. And just as it has evolved from its humble beginnings into the quintessential business shoe, the McAllister is perfect for the man who is making his way in the world, but hasn't forgot where he came from.

Upset Very nice shoe. This was my first pair. I bought these at the dc location. I have a 7eee. I got the black color way. I love the style, but I was told I need to wear shoe pads. For such expensive shoes, I hope this won't last forever. I am disappointed. Also they kill my feet. One shoe is too loose in the heel I wore these a few times, so the store can't help. I have the new Orleans also. I bought those at the same time. Same situation , but they fit somewhat better. Very upset, but they look great!!!! May 19, 2013
Quality has gone down This is my 3rd pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes. The first 2 were called the Strand were worth every penny. I recently got the Mcallister in bourbon calf for $249 on clearance and there is a marked downturn in the quality, quality of leather, there is a visible toe cap line through the toe on the wingtip, and stretching around the ankle, even the stitching on the sole is different. Also now using a smaller heel/sole piece. All cost saving measures that degrade quality. it appears that they have changed the manufacturer and or are building a chaper shoe. May 17, 2013
My favorite shoe. I own the McAllister in all three colors and they are my favorite shoes. I only wish they made them in burnished brown (hint, hint) Allen Edmonds handmade quality is well worth the price of admission. You will never go wrong paying extra money to get a quality product. There are more expensive shoes out there but with AE you aren't paying for a designers name you are paying for a quality, Goodyear welted shoe built to last. For me the comfort is second to none. One might think that a leather sole shoe with no padding would be hard on your feet but the exact opposite is true. The cork foot bed conforms to your foot and they are comfortable enough for all-day wear. I highly recommend these shoes. They will instantly raise your level of style and the ladies love them! Great shoe!!! I've had these shoes for a few months now, and they are fantastic! They look better in person than they do online. They fit great, look smart, and are extremely comfortable! May 9, 2013

Which sole and edge dressing for Walnut Calf?

Customer avatar
by
Rob
Dallas, TX
The Shoe Care Reference Guide lists "n/a" under sole and edge dressing for the Mcallister in Walnut Calf. Is this correct? Is there some reason that edge dressing should not be used on this shoe?

How does the McAllister fit compared to the Clifton carried by Nordstorm?

Customer avatar
by

I have a small foot (7D) and have to order most of my dress shoes online. My Cliftons fit true to size and I need to know what size I should order in the McAllister. The McAllister is on the 5-65 last, which is different from the Clifton. I've read all of the reviews, and it seems about 50 /50 (1/2 say the shoe runs long and narrow, 1/2 say true to size).

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Yes, the Clifton is manufactured on our 8-Last (108) which features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe. The McAllister is manufactured on our 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts and the best fit for a long, narrow foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

We recommend our Manistee belt in Bourbon Calf to coordinate with your McAllister style in Bourbon Calf. Not only is this belt style one of our best sellers, but the burnishing of the walnut leathers will complement each other nicely, and the Manistee features perforations designed to match the McAllister’s wingtip, which is a nice touch.

Should the tongue be sewn to the inside of the shoe on only one side?

Customer avatar
by
Mike
Nashville, TN
My pair of McAllisters has the tongue sewn to the inside of the shoe on only one side (both shoes, but only one side in each shoe)...seems odd to me. It's sewn on the inner side of each shoe (e.g. the tongue is sewn to the right side of the left shoe, and the left side of the right shoe).

I just received a pair of Grayson's that I purchased on your 15% off sale.
These shoes are too large.
I would like to return them for a pair of the tap sole Merlot Mcallister's
Can I return the graysons for a "straight up" return for the McAllister's without having to pay any additional money?

Please let me know.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The McAllister was created with a dressier fit in mind as it is a member of our Dress Shoe styles as well as the ‘Timeless Classics’ Collection. Accompanied by a pair of slacks, jeans or a navy, black, or pin striped suit, they are the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Ultimately, what each individual chooses to pair their Allen Edmonds with is their own decision; we encourage customers to purchase and wear what they feel most comfortable in.

I have just bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds and couldn't be happier! I bought the Walnut polish as advised by your answer to someone's question, but it looks far darker than the shoe. Do these shoes come from the factory with the walnut polish on them or is the shoe supposed to have a patina effect with the light leather and darker polish? Or is it that the polish is much darker when wet and it will all be ok once it dries.
Just a little nervous, the shoes are so beautiful that I don't want to tarnish them in any way. Thanks!

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Yes, for Walnut colored leathers like that of the McAllister, we recommend Walnut Premium Shoe Polish. Our Shoe Polish features a smaller dye concentration than our Allen Edmonds Shoe Cream; as a result, our polish helps to maintain the leather’s shine and coloring rather than renewing it.

When caring for your Walnut Calf, use a soft cloth to apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Shoe Polish in Walnut and allow to air dry. Keep in mind, leathers may appear darker temporarily until the leather dries. Although our Walnut Shoe Polish will not alter your pair of shoes, we also recommend using our Neutral Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax or Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion if preserving color is a concern.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
