When we asked Jim Dayton, an award-winning architect and protégé of Frank Gehry, to design our new retail store prototype, we never planned for him to create a shoe for us. But, by using authentic materials in his store design like Wisconsin red birch and touches of the cork that cushions our shoes, he did such a great job capturing our company's personality that we asked him to bring the same aesthetic sensibilities to a pair of shoes. And we're sure glad we did. In creating this seven-eyelet blucher boot, Dayton used his architect's sharp-eye to perfectly balance the silhouette of the rounded, full toe with the extended calf-high upper. Similarly, the orange leather lining, toe medallion and perforations on the back-stay and wingtip combine to accentuate the boot's heartier features, like the Butyl leather sole, and create a blueprint for both elegance and strength. Tucked under blue jeans or a blue suit, they present a stylish profile while providing the type of ankle stability and support not usually found in a dress shoe. A truly original boot made by a one-of-a-kind artisan, the Dalton is the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Destroyed my feet I have been a loyal AE shoe customer for many years and own many pairs. (8) Unfortunately my recent purchase has had me to reconsider. After wearing these boots for the very first time, my feet blistered so badly that I have not been able to even wear running shoes. Been in sandals for the past few days in 35degree weather conditions. The size of the boots is the correct one. 9 1/2 D. I was fitted at the store. (The AE store's staff was extremely courteous, knowledgeable and overall great. Nothing negative to say about the service.) I am extremely disappointed with these boots and will likely change my shoe shopping habits. I expect better quality from a $400 pair of shoes.... April 13, 2014
My most comfortable and versatile AE model I have the bourbon Dalton, and it has quickly become one of my favorite and most comfortable pair of shoes. This is my first boot, and I almost didn’t order it because I was nervous about comfort. Man was I wrong. A few hours into my first wear, and the foot bed felt like it was already molding to my foot. The high-boot ankle support is perfect too: not too snug and not to loose. It feels like it’s hugging my foot/ankle/lower-calf all day, and I mean that as a good thing. It is so comfortable that I almost want the weather to stay cold so that I can keep wearing these…almost. In fact, if we have any mild summer days, I plan on wearing them even if they’re not “in-season.” They are that comfortable. Aesthetically, AE hit a homerun with this. The bourbon color is amazing and I really love the last and welting. It’s a boot, so I didn’t want something super “sleek.” But I didn’t want clunky either. The Dalton is a perfect balance. The welt extends just the right amount unlike some other makers’ models that look like clown shoes on me. For reference, I’m 5’9” and 155lbs. The Dalton is also one of the most versatile shoes I own. It easily goes with jeans or a suit…something often said but rarely true…but it is certainly the case with the Dalton…at least with the bourbon color. Great work and thanks, AE! Highly recommend! Objective review - best shoes I've purchased In a word - perfect. I'm very particular about the shoes I was looking for and have been doing research for some time. I've even bought two pairs of other brands, including Ted Baker's, and sent them back. I've had good luck with Allen Edmonds before but never ordered online with made-to-order (expensive) shoes to fit my wide width without the opportunity to return. I can honestly say that I am not disappointed, in fact, the exact opposite is true - the best shoes I've bought. The EEE width and size are spot on (I got measure with a Brannock) and, of course, the looks and color make them perfect for dress or casual. I anticipate wearing these often for a long time. April 5, 2014
Beautiful boot I love the boot. However, in my opinion, it definitely runs narrow. Instead of my regular "D" width, I'll need an "E" in the Dalton. Thank you Christina and Scott in the Oakbrook, Illinois store for your help. April 2, 2014

I currently have: Park Avenues in 10 ee; Sanfords in 9 eee; Manchesters in 9 eee; and Chesters in 10.5 d. Each fits well with some variation. Will the last the Dalton is built on fit my feet?

The Dalton boot is manufactured on the 1-Last (511) which is similar to the 7-Last (97) in that it is the best fit for the average foot, but also has a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. Therefore, for the Dalton boots, we suggest trying the size you usually get in the 7-Last.

Keep in mind, however, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I own a pair of superfeet premium insoles, sold at AE in New York, and I would like to know whether or not they can be worn inside of these boots. Additionally, sometimes, I wear prescription orthotic insoles and would wonder whether they can be worn inside these boots as well. Thank you.

The Dalton style was not manufactured with an orthotic fit in mind and our Allen Edmonds Replacement Orthotic Insoles are designed for those select Allen Edmonds styles that feature removable orthotics. However, keep in mind also that if the shoe is fit large enough, these inserts or your own orthotics can be used in almost any of our shoes.

Ultimately, what each individual chooses to wear their Allen Edmonds with is their own decision; we encourage customers to purchase and wear what they feel most comfortable in.

The Dalton is considered an above-the-ankle boot style. Shoe and heel height will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant.

For the Dalton in a size 9 D, the shoe height from the bottom of the sole to the top of the upper will measure to be around 7-3/4 inches tall.

That was from the table top it was sitting on, to the very tip of the pant tab on the rear of the boot.

In addition I weigh 260 lbs (I am 6ft 2inches) and I find a shoe with a steel shank is very helpful. You state none of your shoes are made with a steel shank will you raise the heel by 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch for the boot? The stacked heel helps with my high arches. This may pose other problems in the structure of the shoe of which I am ignorant.

I have worn your shoes for a over 20 years and I enjoy them very much. When I wear them I usually receive complements on the shoes.

I particularly like the 5th Avenue style; very classy.

At this time, the Dalton cannot currently be ordered through our special makeup program and is limited to the style and colors currently available online. While none of our shoes are manufactured with any sort of steel shank inside the footwear, all of our boot styles offer a great deal of support, including arch support.

I have 2E wide feet. But Allen Edmonds only offers E or EEE. Is EEE too big for a EE foot? Should I just get a E size and hope that it stretches over time.

The Cordovan Dalton Dress Boots are manufactured on our 1-Last (511) which is similar to our 7-Last from heel to ball in that it is the best fit for the average foot, but features a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores.
