  • Proudly made in the USA at our Port Washington, Wisconsin factory

When we asked Jim Dayton, an award-winning architect and protégé of Frank Gehry, to design our new retail store prototype, we never planned for him to create a shoe for us. But, by using authentic materials in his store design like Wisconsin red birch and touches of the cork that cushions our shoes, he did such a great job capturing our company's personality that we asked him to bring the same aesthetic sensibilities to a pair of shoes. And we're sure glad we did. In creating this seven-eyelet blucher boot, Dayton used his architect's sharp-eye to perfectly balance the silhouette of the rounded, full toe with the extended calf-high upper. Similarly, the orange leather lining, toe medallion and perforations on the back-stay and wingtip combine to accentuate the boot's heartier features, like the Butyl leather sole, and create a blueprint for both elegance and strength. Tucked under blue jeans or a blue suit, they present a stylish profile while providing the type of ankle stability and support not usually found in a dress shoe. A truly original boot made by a one-of-a-kind artisan, the Dalton is the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Second pair of Allen Edmonds. As I have come to expect the construction is top notch. Like any well made shoe it will take a little while to break in the leather and sole so a little discomfort initially wasn't particularly unexpected. Compared to my Carlyle Oxfords I would say these run a half size larger and I had to return my first order. Carlyle I'm a 10, Daltons I'm a 9.5. The return process was the highlight of this purchase; the return was processed quickly and with little to no hassle. March 27, 2015
Christmas gifts. Love 'em. I got a pair of Daltons from my wife for Christmas, and because I wanted the rubber treads on the soles, it took until about March to get them made. Well worth the wait. These are the best-looking shoes I own, and they are surprisingly comfortable. March 23, 2015
Wonder boot. Great fitting boot, smart looking with supple leather. March 2, 2015
Time will tell.. Perhaps one shouldn't post a review until one has worn a shoe for at least 3 months. nevertheless, here are my impressions so far. I purchased the Dalton in walnut a few months ago, and it was comfortable from the get go. I am an 11E on the 65 last, but that was too wide for me. The 11D was too narrow. Turns out that an 11.5D fit the best. I was able to get a great deal on another pair, and bought the chocolate. They felt great for the first few hours, but after about 4 hours, I felt the pressure against the top of my right foot and had to open up the laces to relieve it. Not having had that with my other pair, I did some googling, and found that others have the same issue. It's the dreaded tongue construction. That is exactly where the pressure and discomfort can be felt. I presume the issue is shoe and foot specific, and it's just the luck of the draw. I hope that some softening of the leather at the point of tongue attachment will alleviate the issue. Otherwise, it's a gorgeous and well crafted boot. January 16, 2015

Answer:
The Dalton is considered an above-the-ankle boot style. Shoe and heel height will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant.

For the Dalton in a size 9 D, the shoe height from the bottom of the sole to the top of the upper will measure to be around 7-3/4 inches tall.

Own numerous AE all in 9.5D. Bleecker Street discontinued boot also purchased in 9.5 D. Long Branch in same size had to be returned and went up to 10D and they fit great. Interested in Dalton. Should I stick with regular size or to play it safe should I go to 10 D or 9.5E as reviews state shoe runs narrow.

Answer:
The Dalton is made on the 511 last and uses the same upper pattern as the Long Branch. The only differences in fit to consider is the softer leather used on the Long Branch that will give more on the foot, the leather insole used in the Dalton will give a bit more room, and if you will be wearing a dress sock versus a thicker casual sock. I would try on your Long Branch with the same sock you are going to wear with the Dalton. If the fit is comfortable then stay with the 10 D in the Dalton. Since the length is the same in both boots you can then decide if you need to go narrower or wider in the Dalton based on fit with the type of sock you are going to wear.

Answer:
The main difference between of what's described as 'Dalton Wingtip' and the 'Dalton Cordovan' is the type of leather used for these styles; Calfskin and Shell Cordovan respectively. Calfskin comes from a calf, where Shell Cordovan is a rare kind of leather that comes from the hind quarter of a horse.

There are benefits of selecting a shoe manufactured in Shell Cordovan leather. The most important is the durability and longevity of the leather upper. Cordovan features a tighter grain than calfskin, it is thicker and more durable, and it is also characterized by its smooth look and feel, and requires different ways of care.

I received my new pair of Dalton boots. While they are handsome, the tongue is unexpectedly different from the images shown; it appears to be crafted from two pieces of leather stitched together mid-height. Is this a recent change in construction?

I prefer when boots have some height to the heel (1 and 1/2 inches). So my first question is: what is the height on the heel as normally made? My second question is: can the boot be custom made with a different heel hight?

Answer:
I saw the Dalton in the store the other day. VERY nice boot. The heal (in fact the whole sole) is the exact same as on the McAlister shoe. Probably closer to 3/4 inch. With dress pants on you'd think you had a wingtip shoe on... doubt they's do a custom heal.... Of course you could buy a pair and take them to a cobbler to have a different heal put on....probably cost you another $100 though.

The heel measures ½” from the bottom of the heel to the bottom of the sole. At this time, we do not offer customization on heels.

Any chance this boot will become available with the dainite sole? I love this boot and the leather soles but would love to also have a pair for bad weather/ice and I think the dainite would do very nicely.

Answer:
At this time, there are no plans to offer the Dalton style with standard Dainite sole. To see if you can place a special order for the Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots, and to find out more about our custom fees, please contact our customer assistance center directly at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or by calling 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST) so they can determine if your specific request can be accomplished based on current availability of shoe materials and components. Keep in mind, however, that while a rubber sole does hold up better in wet conditions and provides more traction than a leather sole, it is not designed to be slip resistant or to wear in icy conditions.

Answer:
You can customize the sole to many different options, including the danite. Just FYI - doing so will render them non-refundable, so just be sure on the fit. I got mine with full vibram lug - excellent traction but people have commented that I look like I am going hiking. Mini lug might have been better.

Answer:
I wear an 8.5 in Park Avenue & Strand. I found that my new Daltons run very true to size. You'll notice a bit more room in the toe box, as they are boots. This difference in the lasts is described on the website in the section on lasts. Order your regular size.

Answer:
The Strand is constructed on the 65 last the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow look; and often the best fit for those with high arches. The Dalton is constructed on the 511 last which is similar to the 97 last from heel to the ball of the foot, yet with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The 511 last is used in many of our boots because of the added room in the toe box. Each style will fit differently based on individual foot shape and the last that each style is constructed on, for this reason we highly recommend getting a proper fit by visiting a master fitter in one of our retail stores.

However, if you are unable to visit one of our stores for a professional fitting, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Please feel free to contact our online customer service team directly at eservice@allenedmonds.com or 1-877-817-7615 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-8PM CST) if you require further assistance.
