Let me start by saying this: I'm a cheapskate. I pinch all my pennies, save as much as I can, and invest for the future. I had never paid more than $60 for a pair of shoes in my life - until I bought these.
Being in the corporate world for a number of years now, it dawned on me that replacing junky $60 dress shoes every year was going to cost me a fortune in the long run. Additionally, the cheapo shoes were generally uncomfortable and would begin falling apart almost immediately.
So I spent a few weeks doing some research online and came to the conclusion Allen Edmonds offer the best price/value ratio for dress shoes. Most reviewers raved about them, and certain individuals talked about AE's they've owned for 20+ years. Now that sounded like a good investement to me.
After spending another few weeks deciding which pair to buy (and still agonizing about spending $300+ for a pair of shoes#, I pulled the trigger on a pair of black Delrays. The moment I unboxed them I could tell the quality of the craftsmanship was fantastic. I've been wearing them for a few weeks now and they look good as new #I made sure to purchase the cedar shoe trees and will be ordering a leather care kit soon - I want these to look new as long as possible).
I've been so pleased with the Delrays that I just placed an order for a pair of brown Preston loafers to replace my current cheapo pair that have begun falling apart. My plan is to slowly take over my closet with AE's as my current shoes fall apart.
As long as all Allen Edmonds shoes I order in the future are of the same quality as these Delrays, I will be a customer for life. Who knew a cheapskate and $300 shoes would go together?

I only buy AE shoes and have been for 12-years. They are worth the money day after day after day. I own the black and brown colors of the Delray because it's a perfect shoe. Prefect for a suit, sport coat and slacks, and even a nice pair of casual pants. I've recrafted my black pair twice, a nice investment in my opinion. And I love that they are American made

While some other of my AE shoes are more attractive, this particular pair is the most comfortable. Also, the toe of the shoes kept their shape for a long time and the shoes are in recrafting as I write this. The soles began to come loose at the toe, and I'm not sure why. My other shoes didn't do that, but I've had them a few years now and wore them at least twice each week. The soles were well worn so it was time to get the shoes recrafted. Every AE shoe I get is alwasy 9.5 D, and I'm confident that each one will fit well (not be a different size).

Needed another pair of black lace-up, so I got the Delray (I have the brown Delray also). They fit great and are just a well crafted shoe. Yes, I am a loyal customer (since 1994 and I have over 20 pairs of AE shoes). There is nothing better then a pair of well crafted shoes and there is no better shoe than Allen Edmonds

I love the color of my brown delrays, but the dark brown polish seems to be darkening the shoe more than I would like. Would the saddle brown polish be an appropriate choice?

The Saddle Brown polish is a shade lighter than the Dark Brown polish. While we typically recommend the Dark Brown for most Brown and Brown Burnished shoes, if you prefer a lighter color Saddle Brown would be appropriate.

Is a Delray 7EEE longer than a special order Ashton 7EEE? If I order a Delray, I would want a rubber sole. Will the rubber sole on the Delray affect the width?

The Ashton and Delray shoes are constructed on different lasts. The Delray last (welted 8-108 Last) has a more elongated toe than the Ashton (welted 8-678 Last) so the Delray shoe itself will appear longer. The Ashton last is also deeper than others in order to accommodate the removable orthotic insert. Every foot is different, but the Ashton tends to be a better fit for the average foot.

Ordering a custom shoe with a rubber sole will not change the fit of the shoe.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip and is part of our current catalog. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition. Unfortunately custom ordered shoes are non-returnable.

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

With more and more customers preferring the convenience of online shopping, we've developed easy-to-use tools to help ensure you take accurate measurements and get the proper fit with your shoes. To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.

CARING FOR BURNISHED CALFSKIN
To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a cotton flannel cloth.

CARING FOR CALFSKIN & GRAIN LEATHERS
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax Polish, Premium Polish or Shoe Cream with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair shine brush and buff to a desired shine.

Our 360° Goodyear welted footwear is characterized by its durability, comfort and fit. The manufacturing process consists of over 200 steps. The process begins with the cutting of the leather. Patterned dies are used, and pieces are cut based on the style. Skilled handsewers then stitch the vamps, plugs, foxes and quarters together to form the uppers. Next, each last is selected according to the style and size. The insole is attached to the bottom of the last. Then, the upper is pulled over the last with great care to make certain that seams are straight. The 360° welt is stitched around the perimeter of the outsole, eliminating the need for the rigid metal shank that is found in most other shoe brands. A heated cork layer between the insole and outsole allows each foot to form its own uniquely shaped print for true custom comfort. Finally, finishing touches are applied, and shoes are inspected to ensure perfection before being packaged.

Allen Edmonds 360° welted shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to their original glory with our exclusive Recrafting process. Using the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up.

When you send your shoes in for Recrafting, our experts will first free the uppers from worn soles. Stretched over the proper last, the original uppers become shoes again through our unique manufacturing process. After your shoes are re-welted, re-corked, soled and heeled, old finishes are carefully removed from the leather and new polishes and waxes applied. In about four weeks, shoes that look surprisingly new are returned to you.
