My First AE Shoes and I now bought three more I bought the AE Delray in Chili because I was looking for a not so brown, brown, and thought the color was great. These were my first AE shoes and they fit and look great. The first few time I wore them there was a slight squeak, but that went away once they were broken in. The Chili color looks great with blues, grey and earth tones. Liked these shoes so much I have bought three other pairs of AE in the two months since I bought the first pair. April 8, 2014
Great shoe, Terrible service I have a rather unfortunate experience, which happens to be my first one with Allen Edmonds. I own roughly 8 pairs of AEs. All other experiences have been fantastic. A few weeks ago, I was in a rush for some shoes due to a function. I hurried into the nearest Allen Edmonds store to pick up a pair of black Delrays. Due to previous experiences, I knew that my foot was anywhere from a 11.5D (in the Italian collection) to a 12D (Park Avenue). However, the store did not have the Delrays in 12D. The salesperson measured my foot and definitively declared that I was an 11.5D and he had those in stock. When I put them on, I noticed tightness across the top of my foot and also on the sides, but the salesperson assured me that the shoe would stretch and would fit perfectly. As I had no other option at the time, I bought the shoes. I wore them once, for approximately 5 hours, and formed three blisters on my left foot and two on my right foot. Needless to say, they were not a good fit. However, I had to walk outside with them for approximately 5 minutes, and so the soles now show signs of wear. I am upset because I normally spend 2-3 weeks wearing shoes around my house prior to taking them out, but due to time constraints, I did not have the chance to. I hesitate to blame the salesperson but certainly felt a bit pressured, as I told him my constraints going in. I went to another Allen Edmonds store today where I was properly fitted by a master fitter. She was fantastic, and told me that I was actually a 12C in most AE shoes except the Italian collection, which run slightly bigger (as such, she would have expected me to be an 11.5D in those - I did not even tell her that's what I had and she correctly surmised it). So to summarize...great looking shoe with a poor salesperson and likely a waste of $365. March 27, 2014
Fit has changed dramatically I have been wearing Delrays for years. I had two pair of black Delrays in 9.5D that fit like a glove. When one pair could recently no longer be recrafted (beware of other cobblers doing anything else than gluing on heels), I decided to replace them with a new pair. The new pair feels drastically narrower, lower and tighter than my old pairs. So far, I have not any outright pain wearing them, but they are slightly uncomfortable and they are bending in a weird spot (near the tip of the shoe), so I have been careful not to wear them for more than one day at a time and only on days where I knew I would not have to walk long distances. I still hope they will break in better eventually, but I don't think they will ever match the fit of my trusty old Delrays. Reading the comments here from the last few months, I am puzzled why AE chose to change the fit of this shoe, since it was one of the most popular styles. December 29, 2013
First pair of AE and hooked for life ! Bought the Delrays in Chilli Brown and I love them. They feel and look great. My favorite of the three AE shoes I have. December 21, 2013

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Delray and the LaSalle are very similar styles that feature the same fit as they are both manufactured on the same 8-Last (108). The difference lies in the pattern; the LaSalle features additional stitching details at the heel, as well as at the seams of the vamp and the toe.

I own the Park Avenue (65 last), Bradley (511 last), and Bridgeton (79 last ??). Of all these, the Park Avenue fits best. I have a long narrow foot, (size 11.5 B), high arches and normal tapered toe shape.

Now I am looking at the Delray (108 last). How does the fit compare to the Park Avenue? Would you recommend this or any other lasts/styles for me?

Thank you

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Park Avenue is constructed on our 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. The Bradley was constructed on our 1-Last (511), which is good for the average foot and has a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The Bridgeton is manufactured on our 9-Last (79) which has a tapered back portion that pushes the foot forward to fit low across the top of the foot rather than the instep. The Delray is constructed on our 8-Last (108), which features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe; it is similar in fit to the Park Avenue in that it is also good for a long, narrow foot. We also suggest trying styles constructed on the 3-Last (333) which has an elongated profile with a square toe shape for a more euro look.

Keep in mind that by selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

I own a Delray (it was a gift) and I love the look and the quality. However, they are very difficult to wear for a long day because they are too narrow at my toes. I thought they might soften a bit and become more comfortable, but now I don't want to wear them because my feet hurt for a couple days after I walk more than a little bit in them. I have had them for a year or so and have worn them 12-18 times.

Is there an adjustment that can be made or should I replace them? What models should I choose from given that this last seems to be not a good fit for me?

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. Depending on the age and condition of the shoe, leathers may stretch and wear over long periods of time. If you are unhappy with the fit of your Delray’s, we recommend contacting our customer service center at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST); they will be better able to help recommend you a more appropriate size.

I have a Delray (chili split toe) that's woven on the top of the shoe. I believe the style is 3160. (There is also another number 56703). Has this style been discontinued and replaced by the 1298 Burnished Calf? Your shoe care reference guide is useful but I want to be sure I'm selecting the correct polish and cleaner. Many thanks.

The term “plug overlay” references the vamp area of a shoe, which is the portion covering the instep of the shoe and sometimes extending over the toe.

Can you provide a shoe with a removable insole? I'd like to use my orthotics.

Also, what style for a dress shoe in $300- $350 range would you recommend given my wish to replace insole? I like the Del-Rey.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

We only manufacture a select number of styles with our removable footbed. As well, Allen Edmonds Replacement Orthotic Insoles are designed for a select number of styles which feature removable orthotics. You can find the complete Allen Edmonds Orthotic Collection of shoes by clicking here: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...?.

However, if the shoe is fit large enough, these inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes. Depending on your foot shape and preferred fit, typically we recommend ordering a size up. The best way to get a proper fit with your orthotic inserts is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Delray is manufactured on our 8-Last (108) which features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe; this last is very similar to our old 2-Last (222). Meanwhile, the 4-Last (234) is fairly similar to the 7-Last in that it is the best fit for the average foot, but has a slightly more squared toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Answer:
Any good shoe repair shop carries shoe cream in many hues and values (color and light/dark) and matching the cream to the shoe is a snap. Use cream and not a waxy polish to protect and preserve your shoes. Shoe polish, a wax, usually has petroleum distillates that can dry shoe leather.

Are your Delrays Brown or Chili? Mine are Chili and the AE chili polish works great as does the AE edge dressing for this shoe. Go to your AE store or call customer service and they can hook you up with the original equipment manuafacturer (OEM) polish and edge dressing.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest.

The Saddle Brown polish is a shade lighter than the Dark Brown polish. While we typically recommend the Dark Brown for most Brown and Brown Burnished shoes, if you prefer a lighter color Saddle Brown would be appropriate.
