A shoe I really want to like... I ordered this shoe when it was a Webgem last year. It's a great looking casual shoe, and I was hoping it would be similar in fit and comfort to the Neumok, which I love, but for winter wear. However, it isn't so - it's not even as comfortable as my Strands! With its double leather sole and mini-lug tap, it is a heavy shoe that feels very hard when walking and standing. And, the heel is so hard on these shoes, it actually hurts to walk in them for too long. I think this also has to do with the extra leather needed in the stacked heel and that the mini-lug on the heel is extremely hard for rubber. I still wear these shoes whenever I am not planning on a lot of walking or standing, but when the rubber tap wears through and they need a re-craft, I'll be asking if the Othello or Vibram soles could be used instead of the double leather sole. And, if I can't get a different sole, I'll probably just stop wearing them altogether... As someone with 10 pairs of AEs (and counting), I'm really disappointed in this shoe. There are a lot of the Webgem's that I'd like to order, but my experience with this shoe keeps me from doing so. April 1, 2013
Solid casual shoes Picked up a pair in cognac brown last week. Swapped out the orange laces with a brown pair and off I went. Overall, I am very happy with the shoes. They are comfortable right out of the box without needing to break them in. I expect them to fit even better as time goes by. The finish is not as refined as my other shoes from Alden and Crockett & Jones; however, since this is from the 'Rough' collection where it is supposed to be a tag rugged. And at this price point, it is perfectly acceptable, especially when compared to other foreign made shoes of lesser quality at the same price point. I especially appreciate the rubber/leather combo sole. It provides the look of a double leather sole with the practicality of a rubber sole. My normal shoe size is 10D but I got a pair in 9.5D which I find it to be slightly snug width wise, but I expect them to stretch out after a few more wears. Last but not least, I want to give a shoutout to Nate at the Shoebank. His customer service and communication were top notch. Shipping was prompt as well. March 30, 2013
Excellent American made Shoes These are my first Allen Edmond shoes and I am quite happy. They arrived faster than expected and fit perfectly right out of the box. The quality seems to be top notch, and I'm glad to see that they are US made. Here are a few thoughts about these shoes: I have a very hard to fit 11 1/2 - 4E foot and these shoes fit perfectly. I ordered my normal size and they are actually just the right width. If you have a more normal foot you may want to follow the advice of others and order a size down. Comfort was exactly what I expected from a leather sole shoe like this. They fit and feel like classic wing-tip dress shoes, and will take a little time to break in. However, I have worn these all-day on multiple occasions and have had no comfort problems. I'll buy more AE shoes made on this last as nothing I own fits like these. I wanted a pair of slightly "wild" casual shoes as most everything I own is classic and boring. These are most different indeed! The orange is truly a very bright "blaze orange" but it works well with rest of the shoe. I dulled down the orange with a little brown polish and it now it's more of a burnt orange like the picture shows. I will certainly order more shoes from Allen Edmonds and I would reccommend them to anyone looking for a top quality shoe. March 10, 2013
Comfortable and a bit loud This shoes fit wonderfully and are comfortable right out of the box. The rubber sole is great for me, as I bike and walk everywhere. I love the leather and the contrast stitching. The orange rim around the welting is quite fluorescent though! I get a lot of compliments on these shoes, but it's going to take me a while to get used to all that orange. February 24, 2013

Hello. I have several AE shoes and boots - all of which are size 9D. The sizing is consistent across of my shoes & boots so far. In reading the two reviews, there were suggestions that the Ridgeway runs long and/or wide.

Can you please advise whether I should order in my normal size and width, or do you recommend to order differently?

Thanks!

Answer:
I have three pairs of AE shoes: Black Hills, McTavish and Ridgeway. I've had a number of pairs in the past. I wear an 11.5D and the Ridgeway fit me just like the others.

Answer:
The Ridgeway runs true to size, but is too heavy. Feels like it is falling off your feet. I would suggest another style.

Answer:
These shoes definitely run a little large. I solved this problem rather quickly by wearing them with a thicker black crew sock as opposed to a thin dress sock. That snugged them up perfectly. It also gave me a little extra cushion to combat the hardness of the rubber tap.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Ridgeway is manufactured on our 5-Last, which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

All our shoes, including the Ridgeway, manufactured in our Port Washington factory using the 360-degree Goodyear welted process our manufactured using our traditional leather footbed and will feature similar arch support between styles.

We do not build an excessive amount of arch support in these shoes because of the applied layer of shock-absorbent cork between the insole and the outsole of our shoes, which allows your sole to form an imprint in the cork over time and acts as a comfortable cradle for your whole foot. The resulting imprint is totally unique to your foot shape and is part of the reason our shoes are so comfortable.

This leather breathes very well like all other AE Calf leather shoes ... NOT like Cordovan at all, though I do love my Cordovan Park Avenues regardless.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Ridgeway style features a lined leather upper, and breathes similarly to other lined leather upper styles. Waxed leather doesn’t breathe as well as an unlined shoe, but does more so than cordovan leather styles.

Answer:
Don't polish it! Treat these like waxed leather. Use a cleaner and then conditioner. The polish will ruin the stitching.

Answer:
These shoes are not supposed to be polished. AE recommends that you use their conditioning moisturizer to maintain the shoe. Also, you can use clear shoe polish.

Answer:
I do not use black polish on these shoes at all ... use the Shoe Shampoo to clean the dirt/dust off, then apply NEUTRAL polish to buff and shine ... if you use a colored polish you'll destroy the contrast stitching on any of the Ridgeways ...

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

If a shoe has contrast stitching, like the Ridgeway style, we recommend using our Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion. Using a colored shoe polish or shoe cream will discolor and/or darken your shoe’s contrast stitching.
