In creating the Leeds, we combined this Italian's artistic notion with a uniquely American design to produce a shoe that is at once aesthetically pleasing while also being inherently straightforward. This model's handsome plain-toe and blucher vamp combine to create a traditional look that blends perfectly with any outfit, from a suit to khakis and even jeans. Of course, simple doesn't have to mean boring, so we added an intricate arch saddle-stitch and a double oak leather sole to give the Leeds just the right hint of refinement. Throw in the comfort that comes with the wider girth and more rounded, fuller toe of this 1-Last shoe, and you've got a fashionable, foot-friendly design that even an Old Master would be proud to wear.

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. My First Allen Edmonds I had first heard of Allen Edmonds through a mutual friend that raved about their quality, craftsmanship, and especially their comfort for dressy shoes. My senior prom was coming up and I decided to dive head first into buying my first real pair of dress shoes. After much research I went into the store on Madison Ave, money ready. I was quickly greeted by a friendly manager and wonderful sales associate. I was quickly measured on the brannock device at a 10.5D . I had to try them on in a 10D since the size measured wasn't available and it was all fine. Later they would be shipped to my house. I was very excited once they arrived but disappointment came before I even opened the shoe box as the shoes were poorly packaged and the box was already falling apart, it was just a pet peeve of mine to have all my shoe boxes intact to be stacked, no big deal. After almost tearing the shoe bags apart, I was even more disappointed upon further inspection as there were two loose threads on the welt which I quickly snipped off. Then trying them on they were huge and rather clunky. Completely different from when I felt them at the store, I let it pass thinking I can just wear thick socks. The fit is really bad as they're loose around the ankles but the toe box is huge while everything else was snug. I couldn't return them or exchange them since it was too late since I had to wear these for my prom. I thought after a lot of hours dancing and what not they would at least break in but these shoes are honestly rocks on your feet. Nothing changed, not even after a few videos on YouTube later on tricks to break in shoes. The following day there were huge blisters around the balls of both feet and my toes. I was not discouraged as my AE experience was saved by the wonderful sales associate, ask for Alma if you're at the store. Later on I purchased a beautiful pair of shell cordovan Park Avenues in a 10D and they're absolutely perfect. I was talking to the manager about the horrible Leeds which he sympathized with me. As someone who represented AE, he told me flat out they will not break in and these shoes are for OLD MEN!! June 4, 2013

First Foray--Mixed Feelings My first foray into nice shoes and I jumped in head first. I got a pair of Alden Indy boots for hiking, and a pair of Allen Edmonds Leeds to replace some worn out, 1 1/2 year-old Ecco "leather" shoes. The Indy boots were a comfortable fit at 10 EE--a tiny bit wide but just right with thicker wool socks when hiking. It's almost certainly unfair to compare the fit of Indy boots to the Leeds shoes, though. The AE shop measured and sold me me the 1o.5E Leeds. In the store they were fine, but after several hours of walking on my first full day out I was in terrible pain. Both sides of the balls of my feet began to hurt so bad I was limping home, which is hard to do with two bad feet. On the second day the right foot--which hurt the most originally--felt perfect. I suppose that shoe had finally "broke in"--which I believe really means that my foot sunk into the midsole so that the ball of my foot was aligned with the widest part of the shoe, as from what I've read quality leather shoes don't actually stretch much through normal wear. The left shoe still felt narrow (though Alden said my left foot was smaller), I was limping from the pressure on the outside of the ball of my foot, and I could almost swear the stitching of the upper was wrong, making the shape too narrow--though the AE salesman said he didn't see anything wrong and my wife wouldn't corroborate, either. The AE store asked if, before exchanging, they could try an expander. I had no problem with this, and upon return this really did solve the problem, although if you look close enough there's a slight bubble on the outer part of my left shoe. Now the shoes are acceptably comfortable and heads-and-shoulders above department store dress shoes like my Bostonians. I can't say they "fit perfectly", because after a long day of walking the ball of my foot and my toes are a little sore. Nonetheless, I'm a satisfied customer and eager to try another model AE shoe. Based on this single and likely uncharacteristic experience, though, I may try Alden once more before coming back to AE. I'm a little disappointed that I'm not able to add another raving review about how the shoes fit perfect right out the door, and how I skipped all the way home without any discomfort whatsoever. Perhaps that was naivety on my part. For those on the fence about trying AE or the Leeds: just do it, but be prepared for some back-and-forth. Quality leather shoes don't have the margin for error of Ecco or similar cheap, plasticy leather shoes. May 14, 2013

Very Poor Quality Even for Factory Seconds Purchased a pair of Leeds Black Shell Cordovan six weeks ago. Have been very disappointed after 2 wearings. I have been wearing Allen Edmonds since 1976, and currently have 12 pair of AE shoes, 9 in calf , 3 in shell. I have never had a problem with any AE shoe, whether it was a first or a second. These shoes are a differnet story. From the first time I wore them they didn't appear right. These shoes should never been sold!. I have noticed several dents in these shoes, and they don't appear to be matched. Almost a different color of black from one shoe to another. Parts of the shoes around the laces don't even look like shell cordovan. I have purchased Factory seconds in both calf and shell cordovan previously and found no real noticable flaws. As mentioned, thses shoes should not have been offered for sale..even as seconds. At the very expensive price paid for these , even as seconds, I feel like I have been taken to the cleaners! Probably have purchased my last pair of Allen Edmonds. What has happend to the great shoes and company I have known for the last 36 years? April 28, 2013

Glad I finally invested in a pair of Leeds! Before this pair, the last pair of shoes I bought was the Walton by Allen Edmonds. I couldn't decide which pair to buy, so I went with the Walton thinking it was more practical for suits. The Waltons were so great, I decided to go for the Leeds as well. Talk about practical-- these shoes are top notch in terms of quality and fit. But even more, I wear them with everything from jeans to business casual to a nice charcoal suit.
