I'm a college student and bought these shoes over the summer. These shoes are awesome shoes, and they go well with anything from khakis to shorts and are perfect for many occasions. The shoe looks really good and the woven detailing really stands out and sets it apart from other styles out there. Definitely a worthy investment

Bought a pair of Maxfields from Ruth in The Woodlands, Texas location. Ruth knows her stuff about the product lines and really knows how to fit a shoe. For a long time I didn't think the AE shoes were very comfortable and had some horrible fits. I strongly recommend Ruth for the best fit I've had period. The shoe is extremely comfortable right out of the box with no irritating break in period. The Codys she sold me are spectacular.

I love the AE brand of shoes and belts and have worn them for years. The only pair I am disappointed in are my chili colored Maxfields. Although they are nice looking shoes, they just don't offer the same fit as my other AE shoes. I love my Bentons in chili, Bradleys in burgundy, Park Avenues in black, and my Waldens in burgundy. I've had the Benton recrafted twice and they have come back looking new. Same with the Park Avenue, which is a beautiful fitting shoe. I don't wear my Maxfields because they are too loose. I guess I should have returned them when I first got them in the mail but I didn't. If there was a way to shrink the footprint of the shoe through recrafting, I would gladly pay since I do like the way they look.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I have worn top class shoes for many years and have just added Allen Edmonds to my collection the past 2-3 years. I had picked the Maxfield from the AE web site in chili and ordered them. They are great looking but for some reason, they fit as if they are 2 sizes too large. I cannot say anything negative about this shoe. I just think for many men, the way this slip on is designed, you will need to try another style. I tried going a shorter size, but it threw the arch out of place. For me, I'll just have to try a different style.

The squeak occurs in the left shoe and occurs beyond the tongue in the area of the shoe where the ball of the foot resides and where the foot bends naturally while walking. The squeak developed 3 months after purchasing the shoes (my 4th pair). The shoes have not been exposed to moisture or water. Would a talcum type powder eventually remove the squeak over time? I have always kept the shoes well polished using the Allan Edmonds polish.

I have been wearing Maxfields (among other AE styles) for years and generally enjoy leather soles, however it has begun to bother me how frequently I have to have the shoes recrafted or replaced due to them wearing out. I blame this mostly on the fact that I have been unable to avoid wet surfaces that tend to accelerate their degradation. Is it possible to select a more durable sole like rubber for the next round of recrafting? If so, is there an option that maintains the excellent aesthetics of this particular style?

The Maxfield style is a recraftable style; however, shoes with cracked or torn leather uppers or worn through linings usually cannot be Recrafted. If you are unsure if your shoes can be Recrafted, call Allen Edmonds Recrafting Consumer Service or bring them to any Allen Edmonds Company-Owned Retail Store; a sales associate will be able to evaluate your shoes. You can also send your shoes into the Recrafting department where they will be evaluated.

The standard width for men is the “D” width. AAA, AA, A, B, and C widths are narrower while E, EE, and EEE widths are wider.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Since there's no "usual" man, that's a very difficult question to answer. A good guess of a usual or average width would be a C. It's very common for one foot to be slightly wider or longer than the other, so it really would be worth a little extra time to stop by an Allen Edmonds store and have one of their Master Fitters measure each foot for a proper fit. If a AE location is not convenient, you can download a Shoe Fit Guide from their website. Go to the homepage at www.allenedmonds.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Under the Shoes 101 Section, click "Getting the Right Fit" and follow the instructions. The purchase of a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes is an investment in a high quality product that will serve you well for many years. Insuring the proper fit is critically important and well worth the extra time spent initially. Good luck with your selection and enjoy your purchase!

While all our leather sole shoes have a layer of cork under the insole to form to your foot over time, our Maxfield does not have an additional cushion insole.

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.

CARING FOR CALFSKIN & GRAIN LEATHERS
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax Polish, Premium Polish or Shoe Cream with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair shine brush and buff to a desired shine.

CARING FOR BURNISHED CALFSKIN
To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a cotton flannel cloth.

Allen Edmonds handsewn shoes are carefully crafted by some of the most skilled shoemakers in the world. Handsewing is thought to be one of the oldest forms of shoemaking, and the required attention to detail demands that a craftsperson spends several hours stitching each pair of shoes. The result is beautifully crafted footwear that only the hands of a true artisan can master.

Allen Edmonds handsewns use a tubular moc construction. This technique allows the lower leather to be pulled up around the last and stitched to the upper leather, resulting in an extremely comfortable and flexible shoe. The sole is then either stitched or adhered to the upper to complete the shoe.

Allen Edmonds Handsewn shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to their original glory with our exclusive Recrafting process. Using a process similar to the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up.

When you send your shoes in for Recrafting, our experts will first remove the heel and the sole from the shoe. Stretched over the proper last, the original uppers are re-shaped and the rebuilding process begins. After your shoes are re-soled and heeled, old finishes are carefully removed from the leather and new polishes and waxes applied. Finaly the sockliners are replaced on the inside of the shoe. In about four weeks, shoes that look surprisingly new are returned to you.
