Maxfield - Moc-toe Tassel Slip-on Loafer Men's Dress Shoes

One look at the vivid images created by iconic American artist Maxfield Parrish perfectly demonstrates the dramatic effect that texture and color can have on a composition. Similarly, both those elements have played a role in making this shoe our best-selling loafer. The underlay woven saddle and collar coupled with the classic tassel gives these hand-sewn moccasins a unique identity all their own. These creative elements become even more pronounced in the black-and-mahogany two-tone model, which is perfect for someone in the market for casual footwear that goes well with dress slacks or khakis. And for those who can't decide, the Maxfield in chili burnished calf can be worn with just about anything. Add in the comfort and stability of the full leather linings and single oak leather sole, and you have a picture-perfect shoe.

Awesome shoe I'm a college student and bought these shoes over the summer. These shoes are awesome shoes, and they go well with anything from khakis to shorts and are perfect for many occasions. The shoe looks really good and the woven detailing really stands out and sets it apart from other styles out there. Definitely a worthy investment July 29, 2011
Great fit and look but braiding on heel breaks First let me say that I only own Allen Edmonds shoes as they fit the best for my EEE width. I bought 3 different colors of the Maxfield because they looked so good and felt so comfortable. However every pair failed in the heel with the braiding breaking after about a year of light wear. I use shoe trees but still not really sure why they break. I won't try The Maxfield anymore. Sad though, beautiful shoe. April 4, 2013
Nice shoe ...but runs at least 1/2 size Small I should have paid attention to some of the reviews on this shoe model--as it indeed runs small. I've owed at least 10+ pairs of AE shoes --and ALL fit (feel and look) awesome--except this model. Silly me, I thought "it couldn't be" as they are AE's so I wore them a few more times --but after suffering that "crammed little toe feeling" each time, I had to abandoned these well made, but TOO SMALL size 11 3E Maxfields. If they actually were cut to 11 3E specs, I give 'em all 5s! -- Buyer beware, these shoe indeed run small. March 31, 2013
I like it so much I have two pair I bought a pair in Chile first and when I needed a black loafer I went back. Love the fit. My feet are narrow and they fit fine maybe even too tight which is good when new. February 19, 2013

The squeak occurs in the left shoe and occurs beyond the tongue in the area of the shoe where the ball of the foot resides and where the foot bends naturally while walking. The squeak developed 3 months after purchasing the shoes (my 4th pair). The shoes have not been exposed to moisture or water. Would a talcum type powder eventually remove the squeak over time? I have always kept the shoes well polished using the Allan Edmonds polish.

I called AE customer service and was e-mailed a pre-paid UPS return label to send them back for inspection. About a week later, I was told I would receive a new pair, and I had mine for 8 months!

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The “squeaking” noise you are hearing is sometimes caused by the leather lining of our shoes rubbing against leather on the outside of the upper. This noise does not indicate a problem with the construction of the shoe; it is natural for two types of leathers which are layered upon one another to make noise. Applying a talcum powder can help to reduce this.

I have been wearing Maxfields (among other AE styles) for years and generally enjoy leather soles, however it has begun to bother me how frequently I have to have the shoes recrafted or replaced due to them wearing out. I blame this mostly on the fact that I have been unable to avoid wet surfaces that tend to accelerate their degradation. Is it possible to select a more durable sole like rubber for the next round of recrafting? If so, is there an option that maintains the excellent aesthetics of this particular style?

Yes, a customer can request a rubber sole be put on their shoe as part of our Recrafting services in place of a standard leather sole, and vice versa.

Answer:
I've had my local cobbler repair the frayed braid twice, and he did a great job. He crafted a leather strip inside the shoe at the back to secure the loose braids.

Because he has a large range of raw materials and tools, I have him do my shoe repair, therefore have not tried AE's recrafting process. Each year his prices increase, so there may be a point whereby his and AE's prices are the same. Maybe then I'll try theirs.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Maxfield style is a recraftable style; however, shoes with cracked or torn leather uppers or worn through linings usually cannot be Recrafted. If you are unsure if your shoes can be Recrafted, call Allen Edmonds Recrafting Consumer Service or bring them to any Allen Edmonds Company-Owned Retail Store; a sales associate will be able to evaluate your shoes. You can also send your shoes into the Recrafting department where they will be evaluated.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The standard width for men is the “D” width. AAA, AA, A, B, and C widths are narrower while E, EE, and EEE widths are wider.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Answer:
Since there's no "usual" man, that's a very difficult question to answer. A good guess of a usual or average width would be a C. It's very common for one foot to be slightly wider or longer than the other, so it really would be worth a little extra time to stop by an Allen Edmonds store and have one of their Master Fitters measure each foot for a proper fit. If a AE location is not convenient, you can download a Shoe Fit Guide from their website. Go to the homepage at www.allenedmonds.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Under the Shoes 101 Section, click "Getting the Right Fit" and follow the instructions. The purchase of a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes is an investment in a high quality product that will serve you well for many years. Insuring the proper fit is critically important and well worth the extra time spent initially. Good luck with your selection and enjoy your purchase!

Thank you for your interest.

While all our leather sole shoes have a layer of cork under the insole to form to your foot over time, our Maxfield does not have an additional cushion insole.

The following link features our Orthotics line with removable cushioned footbeds: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin.... The Benton and Ashton are two of our most popular styles.
