Absolutely the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I have ankle and knee issues, and the cushioned rubber sole on these shoes makes for a good day when on my feet all day. I purchased the chili color, and while I have never been a big fan of the same style shoe in different colors, I am going to violate my own standards and purchase the same shoe in black. Look forward to AE coming out with other styles with the same cushioned solf in lace-up styles. I wear with casual dress pants , as well as with suits.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I own several pairs of AE shoes, but bought my first rubber soled Benton shoes less than 5 months ago (order 1152405). The shoes show only minimal sole wear. I have worn them perhaps a dozen times (bought the rubber soles for rainy and snowy days). Fit is good, shoes were warm and dry in the rain and snow, but the soles on both shoes have now split running back from the toes perhaps 3/4". It looks like the circa 1/8" leather insert between the rubber sole and the shoe upper has split right down the middle. One split might be chance, but both shoes splitting means real manufacturing quality problems. Not what I expect from $300+ shoes, and at $25 per wearing ($300 divided by 12 wearings) not a good deal.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Thought I had the Bentons longer than 1996! Persoally used to fit & sell shoes while in college (now 63). career in financial business and while the upfront price for the shoes seemed a bit high at time of purchase, had no idea how long they last and how they are covered by a manufactors rebuilding program. that make them a top bargain over other brands.
Personally have high arches and a bit tough to fit, the pair that bought in the 1990's still look good and have been through one or two refirbush programs, based on how great they looked after the refirbush, am near sending them in for another update. They polish and keep a great shine, are so comfortable. After having the first pair for several years, bought matching belt for them and couple more pairs of Allen Edmonds (both casual & dress models). Best shoes have ever worn. thanks
Jim

After many years and many pairs of more poorly made shoes, my feet have really begun to voice their displeasure. In response, I decided to try the Allen Edmonds orthotics. I called customer support directly for sizing help, as I've found that my feet are a half size larger overall than they used to be, with a wider left than right foot (not to mention fallen arches and plantars fascitis). The associate was friendly, capable, and confident that she could address my need... and she did! My Bentons fit perfectly over the thicker socks that I like to wear for comfort on the weekends (but the shoes work well in the office too). They are a good-looking shoe, clearly well-built, and comfortable from the moment I put them on. I highly recommend them.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Yes, an individual can request a leather sole be put on their shoe as a part of our Recrafting services in place of a rubber sole, and vice versa. However, the selection of which leather soles is limited to certain styles.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I have this shoe in Chili color. But, the soles are different and older. They have a rubber Vibram sole. Is my older version recraftable?

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

Allen Edmonds creates shoes with the highest standards of craftsmanship and style to give you the best experience possible.

Our commitment to excellence starts with ensuring you have the right shoes for your personal needs and sizing. With more and more customers preferring the convenience of online shopping, we've developed easy-to-use tools to help ensure you take accurate measurements and get the proper fit with your shoes. To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.

CARING FOR BURNISHED CALFSKIN
To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a cotton flannel cloth.

CARING FOR CALFSKIN & GRAIN LEATHERS
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax Polish, Premium Polish or Shoe Cream with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair shine brush and buff to a desired shine.

Our 360° Goodyear welted footwear is characterized by its durability, comfort and fit. The manufacturing process consists of over 200 steps. The process begins with the cutting of the leather. Patterned dies are used, and pieces are cut based on the style. Skilled handsewers then stitch the vamps, plugs, foxes and quarters together to form the uppers. Next, each last is selected according to the style and size. The insole is attached to the bottom of the last. Then, the upper is pulled over the last with great care to make certain that seams are straight. The 360° welt is stitched around the perimeter of the outsole, eliminating the need for the rigid metal shank that is found in most other shoe brands. A heated cork layer between the insole and outsole allows each foot to form its own uniquely shaped print for true custom comfort. Finally, finishing touches are applied, and shoes are inspected to ensure perfection before being packaged.

This Style is recraftable

This style is recraftable®.

Allen Edmonds 360° welted shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to their original glory with our exclusive Recrafting process. Using the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up.

When you send your shoes in for Recrafting, our experts will first free the uppers from worn soles. Stretched over the proper last, the original uppers become shoes again through our unique manufacturing process. After your shoes are re-welted, re-corked, soled and heeled, old finishes are carefully removed from the leather and new polishes and waxes applied. In about four weeks, shoes that look surprisingly new are returned to you.
