24 Boston - Men's Monk Strap Slip-on Loafer Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds Just as driving the maze-like streets of Boston can be confusing to visitors, navigating the territory between a loafer and a Lace-up Oxford can also be a bit daunting. However, you can take solace in the fact that these monk straps are as easy to wear as they are to slip on, which is part of the reason they never go out of style. The elongated toe gives them an air of sophistication welcome at the office while the 000-Last design means they have a narrowing from the ball of your foot to the heel, which ensures the snug fit needed for a daily commute or a night of dancing. Polishing these shoes to a high sheen truly makes a focal point of the buckle, which in turn makes patterned or striped suits and shirts really stand out. I went to an AE store, but they didn't have my size so they ordered it online for me. I got these pair a few days ago to check the fit and comfort before I decide to keep them or return them.
Like reviewer Russjw3, for me, I found the left shoe rubbed my left ankle in an uncomfortable way. It didn't seem like breaking the shoes in would help with that problem. Another issue was with the right shoe. This must be partly an issue with the slight asymmetry of my feet, but the right shoe was quite loose in the ankle area. I also noticed the elastic band that holds the buckle of the strap seemed loose (compared to the left). The left shoe fit really well, but with the aforementioned discomfort in the ankle area.
I did like the looks the shoes, obviously. I felt like for ~$300 something, the quality I got was on par with shoes I paid almost double that. But then, from my perspective, all of AE shoes seem like too good to be true priced shoes.
I was hoping these would become my first AE shoes, but unless the salesperson at AE can find me a selection of AE shoes that will fit me, I might just stick to the other brands of shoes I normally wear.
I hope I can find a pair of AE that will fit me right. I really want a pair of AE dress shoes since they are American-made and they are half the price of what I normally pay for my shoes. I guess my feet are very Italian-like or something because all of the high-end Italian shoes I've tried and owned over the years fitted perfectly.
No, I do not recommend this product.

It seems that Allen Edmonds has compromised on quality in order to maintain price. Leather costs have certainly gone up significantly over the years, and I have to commend the Company for keeping their shoes affordable. However, as someone who has purchased Allen Edmonds for years, I am truly surprised by the decrease in quality. The first pair I bought 20+ years ago did not need a break-in. The cap toes I bought 10 years ago did not either. As someone who has a long narrow foot, I find these Bostons to be very uncomfortable; and I have now worn them a number of times. I will stick with the company because it is difficult to find good quality and attractive 12B shoes that can be professionally repaired.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I have been a life long Allen Edmonds shopper for more than 25 years and have probably purchased 12 pairs of shoes over the course of that time. However, this shoe was an absolute disappointment. The shoe is a matte finish (unlike the more glossy appearance from the web) and this does not improve with waxing. What really disappointed me however was the poor workmanship of this shoe. I bought this as a replacement for my "Garner" - which i still have. In less than 6 months of average use, the sole is seperating and from day one it squeaks when the shoe is flexed so everyone can hear me when i walk. I am not sure if the quality of the leather used has gone down (in an effort to maintain reasonable cost) but for what i paid for this shoe, i would never purchase it again - even at $100.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I was in the market for a monkstrap and had my eye on the Boston for a while. About a 3 weeks ago I bought it and I must say it's one of the most comfortable pair of AE's I've ever owned. The shoe broke in almost immediately. It looks great with a pair of jeans or slacks. To top it off it's a great shoe for business travel when you need to pack light. The shoe should be standard equipment for any man's wardrobe. In short, the shoe just works!!!

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

Allen Edmonds creates shoes with the highest standards of craftsmanship and style to give you the best experience possible.

Our commitment to excellence starts with ensuring you have the right shoes for your personal needs and sizing. With more and more customers preferring the convenience of online shopping, we've developed easy-to-use tools to help ensure you take accurate measurements and get the proper fit with your shoes. To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.

CARING FOR CALFSKIN & GRAIN LEATHERS
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax Polish, Premium Polish or Shoe Cream with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair shine brush and buff to a desired shine.

View our Classic Collection

The shoes in the Classic 270° Collection are constructed using 270° Goodyear welted construction with a heel-to-heel welt, which allows for a narrower heel and a sleeker silhouette. Like our 360° welted footwear, the shoes in the Classic 270° Collection are constructed with a heated cork layer under the forepart for a custom, orthotic-like fit. In addition, they have a PORON™-padded heel for instant, out-of-the-box comfort. There is no metal shank in the Classic 270° shoes which enhances their comfort and allows for easier travel through airport security. Finally, the shoes feature full leather soles for the classic look of our 360° welted styles.

This Style is recraftable

This style is recraftable®.

Allen Edmonds 270° Welted shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to their original glory with our exclusive Recrafting process. Using the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up.

When you send your shoes in for Recrafting, our experts will first free the uppers from worn soles. Stretched over the proper last, the original uppers become shoes again through our unique manufacturing process. After your shoes are re-welted, re-corked, soled and heeled, old finishes are carefully removed from the leather and new polishes and waxes applied. In about four weeks, shoes that look surprisingly new are returned to you.
