Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

Good looking casual shoe Very nicely put together. Goes well with a lot of clothing styles and social outings. June 6, 2015
My first customzied AE pair This particular shoe was my 12th purchase from AE and my first that I made over the phone. I bought these shoes last fall when they were on sale - but I asked for the Toby mini-lug rubber sole to wear them in fall type weather and dry winter days up here in Canada. The Brown Distressed Leather is quite similar to the Banchory leather in terms of texture. The unlined leather also makes the shoes a little lighter to wear and the distressed leather is a very interestingly rugged look for fall / winter. The wingtip look allows for pairing them jeans, chinos or slacks alike. I am big on Sport Jackets and this another shoe in my collection that goes with the whole business casual ensemble. May 12, 2015
Love the shoes but the belt doesn't match Like all my other Allen Edmonds, these new ones fit like a dream. My only concern is that the matching belt doesn't quite match and is a lighter shade of blue than the shoes (see uploaded photo). I avoided buying the belt from a third party because matching the shoe colour was a concern. April 6, 2015
Very Nicely made! I've tried several times to wear the shoe in a D width. Finally had to go to an E. Would prefer that the D width be a little wider. But, I love the shoe and glad I made the purchase. Always get compliments on the style. February 20, 2015

Answer:
The Dalton and the Neumok are crafted on different lasts and as a result will feature a different fit. The Dalton is leather lined and manufactured the 511 last which is similar to the 97 last from heel to the ball of the foot, yet with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The 511 last is used in many of our boots because of the added room in the toe box. The Neumok is an unconstructed style, meaning that it is not lined, and it is manufactured on the 65 Last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow look; and often the best fit for those with high arches.

I am hoping that due to the recent high demand of the Cyber Monday sales, AE was forced to temporarily take the red and olive Neumoks off the website to fulfill so many orders. Please tell me this is the case. Is AE really discontinuing these? The red Neumok is one of my favorite shoes of all time, followed closely by my black McTavish (which is also gone). What is the story?

Answer:
The Neumok style is constructed on our 65 Last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow look; and often the best fit for those with high arches. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Answer:
If we consider the average shoe to be something like the Park Ave or Fifth Ave, the fit of the Neumok is extremely similar, but I would say it is very slightly narrower, yes. Please note (as I stated in my review), that the brown Neumok is different than the others (that I would probably say is wider).

I recently purchases the Acorn Hillfire Neumoks and was wondering how I should care for them. I see that you recommend water proofing them. Do I also need to use leather conditioner on them at any point? What is the best way to clean them?

Answer:
The Acorn Hillfire leather has been buffed and distressed to achieve a unique velvet-like surface. As such, while it is not a suede or nubuck material, we recommend treating this type of leather with the same care as one would exercise for a suede or nubuck shoe.

We recommend using our Allen Edmonds Spray Waterproofer only when caring for this style. Make sure the surface area is clean and dry; it can be cleaned by using a lightly damp cloth. Once dry, spray evenly from a distance of 6 - 8 inches and allow to air dry before wear.

I recently tried on a pair of Neumoks and am considering a purchase; however, after reading reviews of an issue with the heel falling off, I am a little hesitant. I was wondering if the issue has been addressed, or if the instances were just a result of the handcrafting process? I forgot to look inside the shoe to see if there are reinforcing eyelets for the shoe laces. I realize these are unstructured/unlined, but I worry about the integrity as I plan to wear these every other day for work (and hoping they last more than a few years - as I would consider $275 an investment). Lastly, how often do you recommend applying the leather lotion? Thank you!

Answer:
It has NOT been dealt with. I purchased a pair of Neumoks Sept, 17 2014. I have worn them a mere 5 times and the heels are peeling. They have a serious problem with this shoe and it doesn't seem they have addressed it yet. The best thy can do is refund those that have a complaint as they have done with me. I can tell you this, based on the wear and general quality of the shoe, there is absolutly no way you can get more than a year of wear out of these. Certainly not if they are of the same build that mine were.
As I said in my review, these shoes are simply not built to $275 shoe standards. Not by a long shot.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

At Allen Edmonds, we strive to produce the best products but handcrafting shoes using a 212-step process is by nature an imperfect process. Aside from that, wear and tear on heels is highly dependent on the amount of walking one does. Weather also plays a large part in sole longevity. Rainy walking commutes are tougher on soles too. However, we want you to know that we stand behind everything we sell so if you are ever unhappy or have any issues with the materials or workmanship of our products we invite any customer with quality concerns or questions to call our customer service team or visit any of our store managers to discuss their needs.

The Neumok does have reinforcing eyelets. We recommend applying the leather lotion at least once a month, or as needed to keep the leather soft and supple.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Neumok is built on the 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts, and best for a long, narrow foot. The 3-Last (73) features the fullest girth measurement of our lasts with a tapered toe, allowing more room over the instep. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Answer:
The 65-last is longer and narrower than the 73-last. Therefore, I'd recommend that you drop down to a size 11 for the Neumoks. If your 73s are on the snug size, I'd also suggest increasing to an EE width for the Neumoks. In my 73-last shoes, I take a 6.5E in the Waltons, which are bluchers, and a 6.5EE in the Broadstreets, which are balmorals. In the 65-last, by contrast, I wear a 6 EEE.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Neumok style features a Butyl Single Oak Leather sole. Butyl is a chemical in which some rubbers are derived from and it is known for its leak-proof qualities giving the leather sole a high resiliency to water.

We apologize for the miscommunication in the description of the product; it will be updated soon.
