As is to be expected in a moccasin/slip-on that will eventually bend and give, the width on these were tight for my Dad who already has a narrow foot. I advised him to wear them at least three times to allow the leather and soles to give at the pressure points. Sure enough, they conformed and loosened with wear. Now he won't take them off! And he's excited about getting compliments from strangers.
Sometimes the price to pay for better leather is wear-in time. We've gotten used over the years to shoes that give almost instantly due to the thin, cheap quality of the leather used.
A moccasin should START OUT snug. Because when it gives, you won't have the arch portion of a conventional shoe to keep you in them. You'll slip and fall, or get that flip flop sound as you walk.
Yes, I recommend this product.

The construction of the shoe is quite nice. My quibble is with the size. I normally fit quite well in a AE 9.5D (say the Leeds model or several others that I own), but in this shoe it is a terrible squeeze, both length-wise and in the width. I suppose I could have posed the question before the purchase, but the thought process led me to think conservatively this being a loafer. Lesson learned.
No, I do not recommend this product.

The Catskill is one of our Handsewn styles, constructed on the 555-Last which features a snug fit due to a shorter forepart and round toe with a tighter instep. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

I like the moccasin look, but prefer a good arch support. A deck shoe is too flimsy. How would the arch support of the Catskill compare to your traditional loafers, say the Maxfield or the Walden?

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

With more and more customers preferring the convenience of online shopping, we've developed easy-to-use tools to help ensure you take accurate measurements and get the proper fit with your shoes. To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.
