19 Montecito - Men's Penny Loafer Slip-on Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds Part of being a Midwesterner is serving as a good neighbor. That means letting your buddy borrow your prized nine iron, taking the time to write a college recommendation for your friend's son and, in our case, designing a shoe for a colleague in need. Informed that our new chairman who joined our board in 2010, a Central California-native, couldn't find stylish footwear that also had a short, low vamp to accommodate his high-instep (likely the result of his Olympic hockey career), we took matters into our own hands and created the Montecito. It works perfectly with casual Friday work attire, while the contrast stitching and pinched vamp give it a decidedly carefree look that will be right home as you stroll the boardwalk. Once you make a pair of these shoes a part of your wardrobe you'll be so content that you will find yourself open to doing all sorts of favors, except of course letting anyone borrow your Montecitos. Purchased these pair of loafers.
There were some problems right off the bat!
First of all, they are extremely narrow and stiff. I have only worn them for 3 days and still have not broken them in. The Wardens are more comfortable and are easier to wear.
More importantly I purchased size 10, and they were labeled as such however the left shoe is bigger than the right shoe. I even measured them with each other. It is obvious that one is bigger than the other!
Pretty unacceptable especially with the rookie mistakes make in the production of these shoes.
No, I do not recommend this product.

If I had been told they were this narrow, I would have bought one width wder. The sales person should have mentioned this. I see that the majority of customers reviewed agree. Can you correct this problem? Also,when the shoes arrived the inside pad said Kenwood, even though they are Monticito's. Not a problem.

Ordered this shoe over the internet and I must say I'm disappointed. As with a number of other reviewers, I found the shoe to be narrow and pinches my left foot right on the stitching. Very stiff shoe that binds my socks after only a few minutes of wear. I've worn several pairs of Graysons over the years and this shoe is clearly inferior. Lesson one- don't by an inexpensive shoe from a company known for their quality. Lesson two- always try them on first.
No, I do not recommend this product.

As stated in the title, this shoe is a great value overall. As others have noted, I found this shoe runs quite narrow. I normally wear a 13D (which is what I ordered online), but this pair was very tight when it arrived. I thought the shoes would stretch out with use, and so they have, but they are still much too tight following several months of wear. Size up on the width, or better still, try it before you buy it.

That is to say, I have Fifth Avenues, Park Avenues, Sheltons, Norfolks, and so on, and I wear a 10.5 B. None of these are slip-ons, though. I have read the customer reviews and, as one might expect, some say too small, some say too big, and some say just right. Would I be best served to order 10.5 B?

The Fifth Avenue, Park Avenue, and Shelton are all Goodyear Welted Styles. The Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue are both constructed on our 5-Last (65), which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. The Shelton style is manufactured on our 1-Last (511) and is similar to the 7-Last in that it is the best fit for the average foot from heel to ball, but has a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. Meanwhile, the Montecito is a member of our Handsewn styles; it is constructed on our 555-Last which has a shorter forepart and round toe with a tighter instep, resulting in a more snug fit for most. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.
