I must say that I never thought I'd fall in love with a pair of dress shoes, but it's actually happened. The fit is perfect and they stay comfortable all day. This is definitely the most amazing slip-on dress shoe I've ever owned and I expect, with proper care, to have it a long time. Very grateful to Allen Edmonds for putting such a high quality shoe on the market. Thank you.

Aside from the look of this shoe, I cannot find one redeeming feature. These are far inferior to much cheaper shoes I've had in terms of comfort, craftsmanship, and fit.
I've mostly worn Ferragamo loafers for the past several years, but I thought it was time to ditch the gaudy buckles and go for something classic and conservative, so I chose this design. I was fitted at the 5th Ave AE store in New York City, and I ultimately ordered 2 pairs online the following week - one in black calfskin, one in burgundy calfskin.
They were uncomfortable at the store, but the woman helping me insisted that massaging the heel cup and just wearing them a few times would break them in. This is false. I literally could not walk the one block to my subway stop for the first 3 weeks wearing these. I actually took cabs to work hoping I wouldn't find a pool of blood in the heel of my shoes each evening. I stomped on the heel cup and tried to use a shoe tree to stretch the area of the toe box that was crushing my pinky toe to no avail. It's now two months later and they are still horribly uncomfortable. If there is so much as a wrinkle in my sock or the slightest seam, the shoe is unbearable, and the heel continues to chafe.
The toe box actually feels stretched out now that they've broken in a bit. This is far far more pronounced in the burgundy shoes, which broke in a bit easier, perhaps because of a slightly different tanning process?? Who knows, but now the shoes that once seemed too tight in my forefoot are too loose, and my foot feels like it's slipping off the footbed if I so much as step on uneven pavement.
The sides of the shoe right above the exterior pucker with each step. It seems the heel cup extends a bit far toward the instep. Combined with the strap of leather from the upper that keeps the front stiff, the leather in between the two has no choice but to pucker outward, which I find particularly interesting since all of the leather is remarkably stiff except that one area.
The soles are soft, which I sadly doesn't seem to make the shoes more comfortable, but it does manage to pick up every grain or pebble on the floor. I've never thought gravel or pebbles to be a problem, but somehow everything is a problem with these shoes.
On the black pair of shoes, the creases on the left and right shoe are very different. While the right creases normally, the left puckers upward and bulges out. I might attribute that to inconsistencies between my feet, but since the burgundy pair doesn't have that problem, it seems to be inconsistency in manufacturing.
Overall, the quality is so far inferior than I imagined. It's inconsistent, stiff in the wrong places, and without a doubt the least comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn. I deeply regret waiting and waiting for them to break in - it would have been wiser to get my money back. I am extremely disappointed in these shoes and recommend anyone considering buying them be absolutely certain about the comfort prior to purchasing, and even then, perhaps it's better to seek an alternative.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I've owned these shoes and worn them twice a week for eight years now. They've made one trip back to AE for recrafting. These only get better with wear. The burgundy shell cordovan looks better all these miles in than they did out of the box.

I didn't think I would ever pay $550.00 for a pair of shoes but was tired of purchasing poor quality shoes every six months. These are like a fine wine- they get more comfortable and better looking everyday. Spend the money upfront, enjoy the product and save money and time in the end.

Thank you for your interest.

While it is common for the same size to fit across styles, the best way to get a proper fit is to visit a Master Fitter at one of our retail locations or authorized resellers. Visit the store locator page to find a location: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

In case you do not like the fit of a shoe that you order, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned or exchanged at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip and is part of our current catalog. Trying the shoe on a carpeted surface will prevent scuffing on the sole that may render the shoe non-returnable.

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

Allen Edmonds creates shoes with the highest standards of craftsmanship and style to give you the best experience possible.

Our commitment to excellence starts with ensuring you have the right shoes for your personal needs and sizing. With more and more customers preferring the convenience of online shopping, we've developed easy-to-use tools to help ensure you take accurate measurements and get the proper fit with your shoes. To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.

CARING FOR CALFSKIN & GRAIN LEATHERS
Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Carnauba Wax Polish, Premium Polish or Shoe Cream with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair shine brush and buff to a desired shine.

CARING FOR BURNISHED CALFSKIN
To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a cotton flannel cloth.

SHELL CORDOVAN
To remove any natural oils or residue in areas where the shoe flexes and to maintain the leather?s quality, simply brush the leather with a horsehair shine brush or wipe with a cotton flannel polishing cloth. Polish occasionally with Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream to protect the leather and maintain a rich color.

Our 360° Goodyear welted footwear is characterized by its durability, comfort and fit. The manufacturing process consists of over 200 steps. The process begins with the cutting of the leather. Patterned dies are used, and pieces are cut based on the style. Skilled handsewers then stitch the vamps, plugs, foxes and quarters together to form the uppers. Next, each last is selected according to the style and size. The insole is attached to the bottom of the last. Then, the upper is pulled over the last with great care to make certain that seams are straight. The 360° welt is stitched around the perimeter of the outsole, eliminating the need for the rigid metal shank that is found in most other shoe brands. A heated cork layer between the insole and outsole allows each foot to form its own uniquely shaped print for true custom comfort. Finally, finishing touches are applied, and shoes are inspected to ensure perfection before being packaged.

This Style is recraftable

This style is recraftable®.

Allen Edmonds 360° welted shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to their original glory with our exclusive Recrafting process. Using the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up.

When you send your shoes in for Recrafting, our experts will first free the uppers from worn soles. Stretched over the proper last, the original uppers become shoes again through our unique manufacturing process. After your shoes are re-welted, re-corked, soled and heeled, old finishes are carefully removed from the leather and new polishes and waxes applied. In about four weeks, shoes that look surprisingly new are returned to you.
