Is this product fine for use on the navy Banchory model? I'm leery of buying a shoe I can't care for fully. Thanks!

For the Banchory style , we recommend either using our Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner or Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion, which has been specially formulated for these types of leathers.

Both will work well to condition and protect your leather shoes.

Sorry for my ignorance. I think of 'soap' as something I wash my car or face with...suds it up, apply it and rinse it off. But when I read about "saddle soap", I see instructions like "apply with cloth or dauber, allow to dry and wipe off". So do I apply saddle soap just like a paste wax to shoes - rub it into the leather finish right out of the can, allow to sit a few minutes, and polish it off with a clean cloth? OR, do I use water with the saddle soap, to suds it up, then apply the wet foam and allow to dry before polishing off? I'm using leather lotion or lotion/cleaner as described in your various instructions, but afraid of the saddle soap application. I have a number of your casual shoes that you suggest saddle soap for. Thank you so much!

Our Saddle Soap is a paste or wax-like substance, similar in comparison to our Carnauba Wax. This can be applied and wiped off on its own, no water necessary, using a cloth or dauber.

I bought a pair of Bruces and have heard that both saddle soap and chamois oil will help darken the leather (along with general wear). Are both of these effective, and if so, which is more recommended?

We recommend using our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap, which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils; though the leather may darken somewhat over time, it will be a very insignificant change.

We do not offer a product specifically recommended for stripping the polish and wax off of your shoes. Instead, we recommend our Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner, which is used to remove surface area residue and to keep leather soft and pliable.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Allen Edmonds Rough Collection offers a variety of different leathers including Wax Infused, Saddle, Distressed, and Bison; therefore, each requires specific care. Although most of the shoes call for Conditioner Cleaner and Saddle Soap, some instead require Suede Nubuck Protector, Leather Lotion, Premium Shoe Polish or Spray Waterproofer.
For styles that require Conditioner Cleaner and Saddle Soap, such as the Dornoch, McTavish, Lubbock, Bruce, and Black Hills, start by using Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. Follow with Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which has been formulated to clean all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather’s natural oils.

Based on the type of leather for the Berkshire in Brown or Dark Brown, we recommend using Suede Combo Brush and Suede Nubuck Protector for cleaning. For everyday care, use the Allen Edmonds Suede Combo Brush for spot-treating and detailing. For maximum water protection, apply Allen Edmonds Suede & Nubuck Protector.

Thank you for your interest.

To care for calfskin shoes, use Allen Edmonds conditioner/cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds shoe cream or polish with a cotton flannel polishing cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry. Remove excess polish by brushing with a horsehair brush and buff to a desired shine.

We recommend Premium Shoe Polish, linked here. Select ‘Walnut.’ http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

Salt stains are permanent damage to the leather upper. You can try to polish over the top of it to cover the stains, but the damage to the leather fibers are permanent.

I would recommend always protecting your shoes in rain and snow with Galoshes.
