Believe it or not, even with the changing nature of office dynamics - with conference tables once replaced by foosball tables and French cuffs giving way to t-shirts - there are still consummate professionals out there. These guys blend hard work with innate intelligence to become a respected success while they effortlessly juggle the duties of work and family. Leading by example, they demonstrate what it takes to turn a job into a career, how to see the big picture, when to go for that big promotion and what shoes to wear. And more often than not, this type of man is wearing Fifth Avenues. The perfing on the cap-toe combined with the sleek silhouette gives this model just the right hint of personality, while the traditional six-eyelet balmoral design created on the 5-Last ensures a tailored fit. So whichever street you work on, this style is perfect for anyone who has made it to the corner office or is on his way there.

Fifth Avenue Cap-toe Oxfords 4.4 5 198 198
Great classic shoe! Bought a pair of Fifth Ave's in Charlotte, NC several days ago. My wife and I stopped in looking for a pair of wingtips. We were greeted by Derrick and he gave us a great overview of Allen Edmonds. I had researched AE online previous to stopping in the store and thought I knew what I would find once I saw their shoes in person. Boy, was I wrong! The quality of AE shoes far exceeded what I had expected. After Derrick took my foot measurements I tried on several prs. of shoes. I had intended to buy wingtips and ended up leaving the store after purchasing 3 pairs of AE shoes, several pairs of socks, shoe trees, premium polish, a belt and Leather Lotion. I have worn the Fifth Ave's once so far and they look and feel awesome! I am a Realtor and walk a lot. I was concerned that the Fifth Ave's may be too stiff for the amount of walking I do. So far, so good.....They fit like a glove! I will never go back to cheap, throw away, shoes again. Allen Edmonds has a lifetime buyer! August 16, 2014
Great Shoe Every man needs a black cap toe. I chose the Fifth Av over the Park Av due to the perforation. It adds a bit of style without compromising the formal appearance of the shoe. These were comfortable right out of the box. I don't wear them often but when I do I'm in them and on my feet all day. The 5 last is long and narrow and there is a bit of extra length in the toe, but it is not an issue. I can see where some may be tempted to order a half size smaller, but I would not. I wear a 13D in almost all shoes and also order a 13D in these. I tend to trust the designer on sizing, as they know how they designed the shoe to fit and should size it according. The width is perfect and as stated above it is a very comfortable shoe. I have quite a shoe collection, most of which are Allen Edmonds. I love the 5 last. Fifth AV-Black, Fairfax-Chili, Strand-Walnut, Cronmok-Brown. I love them all. The Cronmok gets the most wear, due to its casual nature, followed closely by the Strand. I reserve the Fifth Av for wear with a dark suit. They are my N.F.A. shoes, to be worn when I need to be taken seriously. The Fairfax I use when I travel, as they can be worn and look good with everything from a dark pair of jeans to business casual to a dark charcoal suit. This versatility allows me to get away with only carrying one pair of shoes. Keep up the good work Allen Edmonds. August 9, 2014
Comfortable, versatile, attractive shoe I have been very pleased with my Fifth Avenue shoes. I have these in brown and in walnut and find both pair very pleasing to wear. They took almost no time to break in, are very comfortable, I can wear them all day without any discomfort, and they look very attractive. They are quite versatile and can be worn in numerous settings. This is an excellent, well made, shoe. May 13, 2014
Handsome shoe, broken in after a year Like many other men, a captoe on the 5-65 last was my first AE shoe. While some opt for the Park Ave, I think the Fifth Ave looks just as handsome with a little bit of interesting detail. They were painful to wear initially--actual blisters formed when I took the shoes to Seattle for a three-day convention. With the benefit of hindsight, I probably would not have purchased this shoe and would have gone for a wider last (and I got this in EEE). But now it fits acceptably well and, although I own several pairs of AE, this is really my favorite looking shoe. I love wearing these with casual clothes as well, since even a v-neck and jeans look better with a pair of dark brown Fifth Aves. (Perhaps this is an LA thing..) May 10, 2014

The heel on the Fifth Avenue, as in most of our dress styles, measures ½” from the bottom of the heel to the bottom of the sole.

For most of my adult life I have worn a 10B. I used to wear Church's and always got it in 10B. Over the last few years, I have taken to wearing sports type walking shoes because of the lesser weight. In those I wore a B or narrow. I have gained significant weight and started wearing a medium (perhaps also because the narrows were hard to get).

Now that I want to get back into a traditional fine shoe, I went to the closest AE store (which was only 55 miles away) to be measured. According to the pre-measure, I was between 10 and 10 1/2, and at the upper end of the B width. When I put on the shoes (Fifth Avenue) I wasn't comfortable until I had an E!! I am used to wearing shoes with a high toe box, I don't know if that has any effect on the situation.

Could you please help me to understand why I would need an E width?

Why do almost all of the shoes have a rubber heel?

Part of what makes Allen Edmonds so unique is the wide variety of lasts we use to build our shoes. The Fifth Avenue style is made on our 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts and is the best fit for a long, narrow foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Learn more about our lasts by selecting “All About Lasts” under Shoes 101 at the bottom of the page, or by clicking the following link: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

Most Allen Edmonds shoes feature our leather sole with the V-tread heel lift. The rubber heel lift is more durable and has a longer lifespan and it features a softer a material, which better absorbs impact.

I am thinking to order 5th avenue shoes, size 6D. When I put those on check out, it shows that those are handcrafted in 4 weeks. I just wonder about the return policy for the handcrafted shoes if the size is not fit to my feet.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The majority of Allen Edmonds shoes are made to order, meaning they are handcrafted after the order for a specific size and width has been placed. The quoted time that is displayed is the estimated manufacturing time. Keep in mind, products purchased on allenedmonds.com, including those that need to be handcrafted, may be returned at any time as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.

The walnut is a more even color over the entire shoe. The walnut cloud seems to have lighter and darker shades on the individual shoe. Personally, I like the walnut.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The difference between the Burnished Walnut and the Walnut Cloud is the leather treatment and polishing technique at the end of manufacturing. Burnished leather refers to a process where the edges of the shoe are buffed to achieve an antiquing effect on the leather. The Walnut Cloud finish, on the other hand, gives a granite effect and texture to the surface of the leather resulting in a unique coloration.

I recently purchased the Fifth Avenues in 9.5E. After tying them up and walking in them, the shoes are very loose at the heel, and it feels like my heel is going to pop out. The shoes give a little room around the middle of my feet and the length is just a little too long, but I could do with it if the heel was more snug.

I'm going to return them, but I don't know for what size, 9.5D or 9E. I did use the size guide, and I have a pair of Daltons in 9.5D that do fit well but did hurt after going on a 2 mile hike. I don't know if that was because the Daltons weren't broken in or if the trail was just too rough for the shoes. That's why I got the E width.

Unfortunately there are no AE stores near me. There's not even a Nordstrom around.

Going from a D width to an E, adds about 3/16 inch to the width and about the same to the length. This what I was told by AE customer service. The style and design of this shoe is going to be a bit long, but you should be able to get one that fits. I would go with the 9.5 D if that is your normal size. Remember, shipping and returns are free. I had a pair of shoes with a similar problem, I added a Dr. Scholls insole, and then they fit fine.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

We recommend contacting our online customer service team at eservice@allenedmonds.com or 1-877-817-7615 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-8PM CST). They should be able to help you with the issue you are experiencing with our online Size & Fit Guide, or better recommend a size for you.

I have custom orthotics from Foot Levelers. I own both the Fifth Avenue and the Park Avenue shoes, and I purchased them prior to having to get orthotics. The insoles appear to be non-removable, I can't wear my orthotics with either shoe if that is the case. Can the insoles be removed without damaging the shoe?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Fifth Avenue and the Park Avenue were not designed with an orthotic fit or removable insole in mind, therefore trying to remove the attached insole will damage the shoe.

We only manufacture a select number of styles with our removable footbed. You can find the complete Allen Edmonds Orthotic Collection of shoes by clicking here: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

Keep in mind also, if the shoe is fit large enough, these inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Yes, both the Clare Rubber sole and V-tread Tap sole consist of a rubber base. The main difference between the two is that the Clare is an all rubber sole, while the V-tread is a Combination Tap sole, which means it features a leather base and rubber top lift.

I would like to get a rubber sole because I will be walking outside often, but would like to inquire as to whether a custom sole (Clare rubber or V tread) changes the fit of the shoe at all.

No expert, but have talked to some about having shoes redone and resoled etc. I've been told that if the shoes were purchased used and have curled up at the fronts that when stretched flat for a resole that they may change in fit. Not a supported claim by a resoler, but what was passed on to me.
My thought/guess would be that with a Goodyear welt shoe the change from one sole to another should not change the upper/size as the shoe is placed on its original last (at Allen Edmonds at least, cannot speak for aftermarket places#. So, if the shoe was on the 5 last and is an 11 D for example, then it should come back as an 11 D just with a different sole on it. Best advise is to contact Allen Edmonds recrafting department #email on site under contacts) and explain what you have and what you want to do to see what they have to say. Hope that helps. Cheers
