Splendid boots About a year ago, I got a pair of these boots in brown, and liked them so much that I bought this pair in black. The boots are excellent in every respect, especially on sale. It got 1/2 size larger than AE shoes, and they fit just fine. May 2, 2013
Great Chicago commuter shoe I have been looking for a comfortable rubber soled shoe that I can handle my 5 mile per day walk, rain and snow. They also have to be formal enough that I am not that guy with running shoes in a suit. These are formal enough if you get them shined, you can pass through the office without worry. They are also casual enough I can wear them on "jeans Friday". I wear leather soled shoes in the office, but sometimes I even keep these on. I have a EEE extra wide foot and this last is great. My pinky toe still hits the side snug, but not enough to give me any blisters. This is the widest last I have tried and like it the best. These were comfortable right out of the box, no break in required due to the rubber soles, padded uppers, roomy last. The roomy last does not look "cheap" like a square toe or anything. Quality AE and also re-craftable. I am hesitant on boots as the higher sides usually rubs my skin dry, not these. The leather is very soft. I immediately sprayed mine with waterproofing spray, then had them shined. No discoloration and now they are fully waterproof to my needs. The rubber sole is the best rubber sole they have in my opinion. No slipping in rain and snow and decent ice traction even. It's not too bulky looking unless you have your feet up. My feet hurt walking in leather soles for any long distance, and these I don't even notice since the rubber is so soft. It's a shame these are discontinued. Buy these up before they are gone forever. I would buy another set if they had more in my size. I bought the black calf leather. April 26, 2013
Fantastic Boots I bought these recently to deal with the Chicago commute. I am an executive who takes public transportation to work, and as such, I do some walking every day. Wearing old school brown hiking boots to the office on casual days didn't look so good. These fit the bill perfectly. They are stylish enough to wear in the business environment, but tough enough to deal with the inclement weather. The soles have fantastic traction in the snow / ice. The fit is perfect and they are very comfortable right out of the box. An added extra bonus is they can be recrafted. I am very happy with this purchase. January 24, 2013
Laces are too Short I've purchased this boot before on Amazon.....great shoe. Unfortunately, the pair I recently purchased from AE dot com came with laces that are too short to even tie....about two inches at each end left to tie with. The boots came with 30" laces instead of the usual 36" for an 8.5 D. January 21, 2013

The boot is a great boot and I was very dissapointed in the eyelets being offset. Seems odd that 2 pair would have offset eyelets. Why are these boots being discontinued? Can't get eyelets to line up one side to the other?

QA was very poor more like not there.

I have black calf leather in these boots. I sprayed them immediately with a cheap waterproof spray from my local shoe shine person, around $8/can.

I sprayed it down, waited 2 hours, then put AE wax and buffed them to a shine.

My shoes did not discolor. They are nice and shiny and waterproof. I will be waterproofing them every 6 months.

Don't forget to wax them frequently. Also spray the seams and bottom rubber! Make everything waterproof.

Keep a good coating of shoe polish on them. That is what I am doing. I am not sure if you can waterproof hard leather. I would be worried about ruining the finish on them with the silicon type sprays.

Our Allen Edmonds Spray Waterproofer was created for a very specific type of leather; we do not recommend applying this product to your Cascade style. The Cascade does feature a rubber sole which should hold up in wet conditions better than any of our leather soles, but keep in mind, the upper is made of natural leather and so is not waterproof.

We recommend trying the Swims ‘Mobster’ Boot which is a great way to protect your investments and allow you to wear your favorite shoes regardless of weather conditions.

Only two stores in the Chicago area: Oakbrook and Michgan Ave. You could call them. I bought mine online. I would recommend you do a web search to see if some other retailer has them in your size.

The old cascade does not squeak. The new one, however, with the vibram lug soles is a horrible squeaker. Bought a pair, and have just started wearing them, my wife couldn't figure out the noise when we were out walking one evening, then we figured out it was the shoes. Kind of annoying.

The “squeaking” noise you are hearing is sometimes caused by the leather lining of our shoes rubbing against leather on the outside of the upper. This noise does not indicate a problem with the construction of the shoe; it is natural for two types of leathers which are layered upon one another to make noise. Applying a talcum powder can help to reduce this.

I have the Malvern and the Cascade. I find them to be about the same height. The fit is very similar, and I believe they give great ankle support. I wear orthotics and find AE shoes last a lot longer before recrafting is needed. My wife says I walk better with them, I certainly feel much better wearing them.

I don't find these to provide that much ankle support. I also own the Bayfield which is both higher and tighter in the ankle area. It definitely contributes significantly to supporting the ankles.

The Malvern is considered an ankle boot style. Shoe height will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant. For the Cascade in a size 7.5D, the shoe measures to be around 5” tall.

My pair (size 9) is five inches high measured from the bottom of the sole. It reaches just above my ankle. It has a nice padded collar around the ankles.

Not sure about the Malvern.

Our Cascade boot is constructed on our 4-Last, which is similar to the 7-Last in that it is the best fit for the average foot, but also has a slightly more squared toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Always remember that there will be room in the toe because of the pointed shape. The most important point for fit is that the ball of your foot is at the widest part of the shoe.

I don't find the #1 last "long", compared to the #5 last for example. That said, the one last has a roomier toe box than some lasts. I'd describe it as more room to wiggle your toes up and dowon than long. Hope that helps.

While the Wilbert and Berkshire are constructed on different lasts and may have slightly different fits as a result, the Cascade is constructed on the same last as the Berkshire and typically fits with the same sizes as the Berkshire.

If you are not satisfied with the fit, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip and is part of our current catalog. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help avoid scuffing the sole, keeping the shoe returnable.
