Williams - Long Wingtip Lace-up Oxford Men's Dress Shoes by Allen Edmonds

Despite being a Harvard graduate, committed soldier, successful merchant and a representative of Connecticut at the Continental Congress, William Williams is best known in history classes for the astonishing simplicity of his name. As a fan of well-rounded individuals, we thought this dedicated American deserved a more fitting tribute, and crafted this premium dress shoe in his honor. Like Williams' name, the foundation of this 222-Last, five-eyelet blucher design is decidedly straightforward, and should fit the majority of feet extremely well. From there, to capture to the many talents that this great patriot brought to the table, we added some more complex elements, like a perforated long wingtip and toe medallion, both of which lend this dress shoe the depth of character you'll want for your most important business meetings. Even more impressive are the intricate light and dark highlights of the bi-color heel and wheeled edge sole, which create a striking contrast between the ultra-supple burnished double-aged leather body of the shoe and the artisan Independence leather sole. Capped off with an ultra-soft lambskin lining, brass nails on the heel and the Allen Edmonds brass nameplate on the sole, the Williams will not only change how people look at you, but also how you look at history.

One of the best shoes from my 70 pairs I own John Lobb, Edward Green shoes among others and one on my preferred pair of shoes is this Allen Edmonds Williams. I have always issues finding the right width with my special insoles, but the size 7.5 EEE is just the perfect fit for most of my AE's and for these Williams it's the best fit. Very elegant shoe that fits like a glove. February 14, 2013
Shortest, Narrowest AE Shoes I've Ever Seen This is a beautiful shoe, which unfortunately runs VERY narrow and a bit short. After waiting a month for delivery I just sent them back. I have multiple 14E shoes on the 5 and 8 (108) lasts and all fit me very comfortably. The 7 last has always been a bit big, especially in the heel, so I dont even try those anymore. The website describes the 2 last as similar to the 8 last - that is definitely not the case. The 2 last used in the Williams is at least a two sizes narrower and half a size shorter than the shoes I have on the 8 last (McClain, Weybridge, LaSalle). I might try ordering this shoe in a 14EEE, but suspect that will be too wide. Unfortunate, as it is a nice shoe. Given that the 5 last is the most popular of the AE lasts it is hard to understand building a shoe on a last so dramatically different. August 18, 2012
Worth the Extra Cost I usually purchase Edward Green Shoes (England , 3 month wait) , so I am willing to pay for craftsmanship. These shoes have that attention to detail. I purchased a pair in Black Calf. - that hide has little or no "break in" period and in my opinion is well worth the extra cost. It is a substantial shoe, but not overly bulky and is all business. The "B narrow" width is not that narrow, so unless you have a wide width D + , I would try on a pair in the B width (better proportion) and a bit more style. If you can swing the extra cost, these are a real value and well worth adding to your collection. May 30, 2012
Best shoes ever!!! I have these in dark brown. They are my favorite pair of shoes by a wide margin. They were comfortable right out of the box and they look fantastic. I would definitely recommend these shoes. I also have the Hancock. Probably will add every shoe in the Independence collection to my closet. May 15, 2012

Should I use a Natural Edge Dressing or Brown Edge Dressing on my Brown Williams?

Seems like either could do the trick. Any tips?

Thank you for your inquiry.

All of our Goodyear welted shoes, including the Williams, have a cork mid-sole that will form to your feet. There is not an additional padded insole or heelpad in this model.

Was thinking of building a pair of custom Macneil shoes in burnished brown leather - until I saw these new Williams shoes.

Can you give me a sense of how the Williams last compares to the MacNeil last?

Thank you.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds. The "2" last which the Williams is manufactured on is more narrow with a slightly higher instep whereas the "7" last which the MacNeil is manufactured on is flatter in the toe area and is the best fit for the average foot.

To find more information on the different lasts, go to the bottom of the website and click on "All About Lasts".

You can view all the shoes on a specific last by selecting "View All" from the shoes menu. Scroll down until you see last in the left hand filter menu and click the plus sign. Click one of the options to see the shoes manufactured on that last.
