At 26 years old, South Carolina lawyer-politician Edward Rutledge was the youngest person to sign the Declaration of Independence. From there he would go on to captain of the Charleston Battalion of Artillery during the Revolutionary War and later become a state legislator and the governor of South Carolina. That type of success at such a young age takes both spirit and insightfulness, two traits that inspired us to design his namesake new shoe for our Independence Collection. Like Rutledge, this five-eyelet cap toe balmoral has a youthful vigor that manifests itself in the playful pinhole perforations and thoughtful inlaid stitching; the Rutledge is lined with supple "glove-soft" leather and features an artisan bi-color sole with wheeled edges for added sophistication, making the Rutledge a shoe for the ages.
