    Allen Edmonds Recrafting
  • Proudly made in the USA at our Port Washington, Wisconsin factory

There's nothing more wasteful than buying a pair of shoes for a special occasion and never being able to wear them again. Which is exactly why we designed this handsome, versatile balmoral. Built on the 8-Last for a tapered and flatter toe, the sophisticated silhouette is the ideal complement to black tie attire. Because its made with black calf and saddle brown calf - great alternatives to patent leather - after the reception has ended, the Vernon transforms into a great dress business shoe, excellent for awards banquets and executive meetings, proving this style to be the perfect marriage of elegance and versatility.

Why hasn't Allen Edmonds modified the shoe description yet? I read so many reviews describing the narrow fit of these shoes, but I figured I would be OK as my foot is on the narrow side of the "D" spectrum. I was wrong. I can live with the small chunk that was mysteriously missing from the top of the soles of one of the shoes upon arrival, but I can't live with the discomfort. These are the most expensive shoes I have ever purchased, and they are by far the most uncomfortable. After two days of minor use, the sides of my feet and toes are raw. I didn't think to order these in a larger size, because I trusted AE's description over the customers reviews. Why AE hasn't put "NARROW FIT" in bold letters at the very top of their description baffles me. I am really upset because I am in love with the design, and the quality seems quite good (with the exception of some frayed threads, and the chunk missing that I mentioned earlier). I want to sing the praises of this great company... but it's hard to do over the sound of my feet crying. March 4, 2014
Loved the look in the Store, Less so after creases. This is my 4th pair of AE's. I love the look of them, but wish I would have read the reviews prior to wearing them outside on my first wearing. The shoe fits great and I sized on the small side, but am getting creases in front of the toe perforation on both shoes.. Yes probably would be avoided with a Cap toe, and love everything else about them, but after 1 wear the creases detract a lot from the shoe due to their location and shoe trees. Obviously creases should be expected, but bummer as to where they occur on this shoe. I'll still buy another pair of AE's, but probably not the Vernon's, and will make sure to break in on carpet next time to ensure I can return if similar issues exist. February 21, 2014
No Longer Fits Well I started wearing these about six weeks ago, and they fit like a pair of gloves for the first few days. I was disappointed that the crease in the toe appeared over the lines of holes, but so be it: if I didn't want that, I should've gotten cap-toes. My big concern is that after a few wearings, the shoes went from perfectly fitting to a lot looser, to the point that my feet slide forward and get pinched in the toe box. I had liked wearing these while in court as a trial lawyer, but I've had to significantly cut back due to the change in fit. It's possible that I wasn't measured well at the store, or that I don't know how shoes properly break in, but it does make me hesitant to get any more AE shoes on this last. If I had it to do over, I probably would've gotten the Hale or Rutherford in a half-size down. December 10, 2013
Great looking and just a little brouging I'm a big fan of these and have garnered many complemements about the shoes. They are a touch unique as they resemble a cap toe until one looks just a little closer. Then the character and sleekness of not having the second piece of leather there stands out and I like how the brouging gives them just a little detail without distracting from the character of the shoe. I've seen pretty much every other AE shoe offered in a 12.5 except the Vernon and I believe I'm a true 12.5

While we do have several styles available in size 12.5, the Vernon style is not offered in that size. The Vernon is manufactured on the 8-Last (108 which features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

For the Vernon in Saddle Brown Leather, we recommend using our Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish in Saddle Brown. Because this is a closeout color of our Premium Shoe Polish, you may also substitute our Dark Brown Premium Shoe Polish which is fairly similar in color.

I purchased a pair in 11D--my normal AE size for most shoes. This is my first pair on the 8-108 last. They are a little tight around my pinky toes but it's not unbearable--just quite tight. I've worn them 8 times. Will the leather stretch and loosen more around my toes over time? Or should I get the 11E? I am worried that the 11 E will be too wide in the heel since I normally am an 11D.

Yes, the leather will definitely loosen up and conform to your foot. The more you wear them the more they will mold to the shape of your foot.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The 8-Last (108) features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. Typically the same size can be ordered in all of our shoes and lasts. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.

Depending on the age and condition of the shoe, leathers may stretch and wear over long periods of time. If you are unhappy with any purchase, please feel free to contact our customer service center at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST).

I think the pair I have are more of a chestnut or red chili color. Was this shoe previously made in other brown shades? If so, how can i tell which shade of shoe polish is best for mine?

Our Fifth Avenue is constructed on our 5-Last (65), which is the longest in length of our lasts and the best fit for a long, narrow foot. Meanwhile, the Vernon is constructed on our 8-Last (108), which has an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size and last can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. We recommend the Wide Basic Dress Belt in chili for the Vernon in saddle brown. Chili and saddle brown are very similar tones. Here is a link to the belt: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

Thank you for your interest.

The Vernon is built on the welted 8-108 last.

You can see what shoes are built on each last by selecting “View All” from under the main SHOES menu. Then scroll down and click the plus sign next to the “LAST” filter on the left hand side of the screen. Select the last you are interested in to see all the shoes manufactured on it.

Learn more about lasts by clicking on “All About Lasts” under “Shoes 101” in the footer of the page.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. The McTavish is manufactured on the same last as the Park Avenue, but tends to run slightly larger. It was designed that way because it is a casual shoe and men tend to wear it with a thicker, more casual sock.

The Vernon is manufactured on a slightly different last. This shoe is manufactured on the 8 last which has an elongated forpart with a tapered and flatter toe.

The best way to know what size you will take in a particular shoe is by trying the shoes on. If you are unable to visit one of our retail stores to be assisted by one of our Master Fitters, make sure you try the shoes on a carpet surface. That way they will be returnable if they do not fit when you recieve them.

Please feel free to contact us with any further questions.

Answer:
I would say no. The vernon for me tend to run long compared to my park avenue. However, I wouldn't size down one whole size from your P.A. Maxium of 1/2 size would do. Otherwise buy your P.A size and place some insoles inside for a tigher fit.
