"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Those are the words of Leonardo daVinci, who brought that sensibility to all of his artistic endeavors, including the many footwear prototypes he sketched out. In creating the Leeds, we combined this Italian's artistic notion with a uniquely American design to produce a shoe that is at once aesthetically pleasing while also being inherently straightforward. This model's handsome plain-toe and blucher vamp combine to create a traditional look that blends perfectly with any outfit, from a suit to khakis and even jeans. Of course, simple doesn't have to mean boring, so we added an intricate arch saddle-stitch and a double oak leather sole to give the Leeds just the right hint of refinement. Throw in the comfort that comes with the wider girth and more rounded, fuller toe of this 1-Last shoe, and you've got a fashionable, foot-friendly design that even an Old Master would be proud to wear.

Best in class I've been wearing cordovan Leeds for almost 20 years and have just unwrapped and laced on my fifth pair. I wear them just about every day with two (now three) pair in my active rotation. They are the ideal combination of sturdy masculinity with understated elegance. A timeless classic. Spring for the cordovan-- you will not regret it. June 24, 2014
Beautiful I just received my Leeds Cordovan Derby shoes and put them on immediately. I've only worn them for a few hours so take that into account when you read my review. I have three other pair of Allen Edmonds all on the 5 Last. I love them all, but this pair is my new favorite. It's beautiful and instantly comfortable. It's very hard to describe the beauty of Horween Cordovan and pics don't really do them justice. I only wish I could wear them everyday! I was a little worried they'd be too chunky to wear with a suit, but I had a glen plaid on today and they looked great. But I can't wait to try them with chinos. My Park Avenues, Fifth Avenues, and Strands are all 9D and I would say that these fit just slightly roomier (but still "true to size"). They're a significant investment so may not be for everyone, but I expect to wear these for the next 30 years. May 5, 2014
Do you like thick soles? The only shoe in the AE line that hearkens to British thick soled shoes. The Leeds Derby shoe looks great with blue jeans or grey wool trousers. They are my workhorse shoes--I wear them several times a week and they are very comfortable and good looking. I plan on getting the Cordovan version soon. March 16, 2014
You get what you pay for I have been buying Allen Edmond shoes for the past thirty years.I decided to splurge and try a pair of Leeds cordovan shoes in black. I have to say these are now hands down become my favorites nothing else feels or looks like this handsome shoe. December 18, 2013

I wear orthotics. Can the insole be removed on this shoe? I want a black dress shoe with a rounded toe. Which of your shoes will let me remove the insole. I have tried the Benton and New Haven w/o success.

Answer:
No, it cannot be removed. Of course, if you play around with the size, a larger shoe will accommodate, not something I prefer. I have worn orthotics, and while it depends on your feet, I have found that the cork bed molds very nicely to your feet without the orthotic. I cannot recommend another shoe in the lineup which will give you the removable insole, the Benton would have been my one suggestion.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Leeds is manufactured on our 1-Last (511), which is fairly similar to our 7-Last from heel to ball, but features a more rounded, fuller fitting toe.

I like the craftsmanship of the double oak leather sole with cork but don't know how it would compare to a Vibram sole.

I'm a big guy and need a sole to take the pounding so my joints don't have to.

Can anyone tell me if the double oak leather sole will do the job or should I order with Vibram.

Answer:
I'm 5'11" and about 210lbs, so not tiny. I've only had the shoes for about four weeks, and have spent both a weekend in Chicago and a weekend in Seoul, both times touring those cities and pounding concrete sidewalks for many hours.

While I'm sorry to say that I'm not particularly enthusiastic about the fit of the upper on my pair, the soles at least have provided exceptional comfort on the concrete.

Full disclosure: I regularly walk 1.5 miles to work, from home to downtown. My moderate leg strength probably helps keep my knees or hips from getting sore.

Answer:
It will take alot of pounding. I am 250 lb. and it is good, I think the Vibram would ruin the shoe, however, you may want to look at the Titan sole. It is extremely durable and provides a nice dress look with no lugs.

Answer:
I am 6 feet, 195 pounds and walk alot, iincluding in the Leeds model. I have had these recrafted with a vibram sole by Allen Edmonds, and a it is a thin sole that they use, so I don't notice much difference between the Vibram and the double oak sole. I broke an ankle badly a few years ago and have a touch of arthritis during cold weather, but other than that, have no real joint sensitivity to shock. You can also take the shoes to an independent cobbler to see if they have a business-style crepe or rubber sole to decrease the impact. If you call AE, I bet they would be willing to give you advice.

Answer:
I would go for the Vibram sole. I have both bought leather / cork and vibram soled AE shoes in the past, but go now only for the Vibram / rubber sole versions, as they are n my opinion definitely more comfortable from a walking / cushioning perspective. In fact, because of this, I had in the past one leather sole shoe recrafted with a thin vibram sole (Not sure whether that's possible today).

Answer:
I would choose the leather sole with cork. Having cork in the sole is especially important for comfort. While working in London several years ago I thought about having some double leather soles resoled with Dainite rubbler soles. I asked a cobbler there and without hesistation he said I should resole with leather as it was more comfortable for concrete walking. I took his advice and was happy with the results. The soles lasted about two years and by that time I was living in Singapore where the rains come often and leather soles become a sponge, i.e., wet feets. Remembering the Dainite soles and not wanting wet feet I had them resoled with Dainite soles, which have a similar consistency to Vibram soles. My favorite and once best fitting shoes are now inflexible and uncomfortable...I should have bought gollashes while having them resoled in leather as originally made. Hope this helps.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

A Vibram Rubber Sole will provide more shock absorption than our Double Oak Leather Sole; however, it will not be as thick as the leather sole. Both options offer ideal support and are very durable. Keep in mind, the amount of wear you will get with either will also vary depending on the frequency and environment in which the shoes are worn.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Williams is manufactured on our welted 2-Last (2-222) which has an elongated toe with a slightly higher instep. The McGraw is manufactured on our 4-Last (4-234) which has a slightly more squared toe, while the Leeds is manufactured on our 1-Last (1-511) which is more rounded with a fuller fitting toe; both the McGraw and Leeds are similar to our 7-Last which is the best fit for the average foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Given the full toe shape of the Leeds shoe, the Allen Edmonds Full-Toe Cedar Shoe Trees are ideal, although the Combination shoe trees also work very well.
