This as my first Allen Edmond shoe, and man do I love it. I purchased these from nordstrom and fell in love with the design and color (I bought these in leather not suede). The leather version is extremely comfortable (I walk a lot for work, traveling from site to site) and have so far withstood miles of abuse. Great purchase!

I actually went into my local AE to look at other shoes, not even thinking of something like these. But, after a couple of trips to the store, I couldn't resist. Wearing these bad boys with my Ben Sherman grey or blue tonic Camden fit suit and Stetson Inwood brim? What can I say, I am THE man about town...
Oh, of course had to complete the package with the matching blue suede belt. There's no place I can't go in this town and feel confident when sporting my AE blue suede Players.
NEVER, will I do an injustice and wear these gems with anything but my SMARTEST LOOKING suits here in the city.

I am a young professional and have been looking at Allen Edmonds to expand my shoe collection to be more classic and higher quality. When I went into the Allen Edmonds store, I didn't have any intention of actually purchasing a pair. This style in walnut calfskin caught my eye, and the personal service was so spectacular that I decided to go ahead and make the jump. I've had them for a little over a month now, and I must say that they get better with each wear. Once the upper and the sole softened up a bit, and I wore into the footbed, they became even more comfortable. The double oak sole doesn't allow too much flexibility in the fore foot, and is quite sturdy. I wear a size 13, but my right is wider than my left. I bought a 13M (or D), and it fits my left foot much better than my right. But the open style lacing allows me to more finely tune how tight the sides are. I've worn these shoes for two 12-hour days this week, and my feet haven't complained at all.
I am certainly going to come back to Allen Edmonds as I continue to expand my professional footwear.

I purchased this shoe in walnut leather and I can honestly say it's the most beautiful pair of shoes that I own. Gorgeous color and build quality, and a great fit right out of the box.

For the Player’s Shoe style in Walnut Burnished Calf, we recommend Walnut Premium Shoe Polish and Neutral Carnauba Wax. Allen Edmonds Shoe Polish is best used for regular polishing and achieving a lustrous glow while Carnauba Wax is known for imparting a richer glow to fine leathers. The choice between the two comes down to individual preference on how shiny or rich in color you want your Allen Edmonds shoes to be.

When caring for Burnished Calfskins, use a soft cloth to apply a medium coat of polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a soft, cotton flannel cloth.

This and a number of other models are said to be made on last 2-222, but no such last appears on the last page.

Is 2-222 an error? A new last? Where can I find a description of the last?

The Player’s Shoe is manufactured on our old 2-Last (222), which has an elongated toe with a slightly higher instep; it is very similar to the 8-Last (108) which also has an elongated forepart, but with a tapered and flatter toe.

How To Measure Your Feet For The Best Fit

To get a truly professional fitting, we recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds Master Fitter at any one of our retail stores. However, if an Allen Edmonds store is not located near you, this Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit.

Helpful Tools

Tip #1: Measure At A Time That Fits
Feet tend to swell in different circumstances and at different times of the day. We suggest you measure your feet during the midday or late afternoon after you have been on your feet for some time.

Tip #2: Wear Socks When Measuring
Wear the type of socks that you'll likely be wearing with your new shoes, as the thickness of the socks may affect your measurements.

Tip #3: Stand Straight and Balanced
When you do the measuring, be sure both feet are on the ground and you're balanced and straight to get the proper foot placement.

Tip #4: Get Someone To Help You
You need to have a friend help you take the measurements because if you were to try to take your measurements yourself, when bending down to mark your length and width, your sizing would be affected. Make sure your friend takes your measurements looking straight down at the Shoe Fit Guide. Even viewing it at a slight angle may affect the outcome.

Tip #5: Give Yourself A Bit of Room
If your measurement is on a length line, we recommend you go to the next half-size longer in order to give your toes a bit of room.

Tip #6: One Foot Larger Is Common
Almost everyone has one foot larger than the other. The key is to determine your size from the measurement of the larger of your two feet. And obviously, be sure to measure both feet.
