Surrounded by protected forests and sweeping farmland while boasting a population of a little over 1,000, Ashton, Idaho is located in the heart of the open-spaces that signifies the American West. Suitably, the style that bears the town's name is the most spacious footwear we offer. Building this five-eyelet blucher on the 8-Last creates the shoe's extra depth, which can be increased by removing the insole. This means that the Ashton can accommodate a custom orthotic or just provide that extra space for those looking for an unrestricted fit. The raised stitching on the split-toe and vamp coupled with the pre-stitched split-reverse welt gives these shoes a fresh appearance that will be at home in a casual office environment or on the weekend with khakis or jeans. We don't care if you chose them because you need the extra room or just want it; either way we know you'll be as big a fan of the Ashton as we have always been.

Ashton Derby Orthotics 4.3 5 100 100
They work for me - this is my third pair, the last 2 were "recrafted" 3 times each. A great combination of style, comfort and most important to me, cushioning. I have had both knees replaced, the Aston makes a being on my feet for long periods far more tolerable. April 17, 2015
Extremely Satisfied I've recently had foot surgery and as a result had to wear orthotics. My current roster of shoes made wearing orthotics rather uncomfortable and wearing orthopedic shoes was out of the question. With limited options I took a leap of faith and perused your site considering you're one of the few shoe companies that have large sizes and come in multiple widths. I've chosen the Ashtons in black calf and had to put them in service right away. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of shoe and when I removed the inserts and place my orthotics in I was in heaven. My job requires me to stand quite a bit and I put these shoes into service less than twenty four hours after receiving them. I must say thus far the breaking in process was far better than I expected. It's my fervent hope that Allen Edmonds expands this current line of shoes to include other styles such as a wingtip and possibly a monk strap style in the near future. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase February 12, 2015
Defective and Unwearable I have owned more than a dozen pairs of AE shoes. Not sure I will own any more going forward. I am very disappointed in AE for continuing to sell these shoes knowing they have an issue. I had not read the reviews prior to purchase of two pairs. I received first pair six weeks ago. I put them on and loved the fit. Went to work. Noticed a squeak while walking into the office. Very audible, very annoying. Became known as the "baby toy shoes" in my office. I was sure to give AE full credit. Wore shoes a few more times around house to hopefully 'break them in' ... no luck. Second pair (had been backordered) arrived yesterday. I was hopefully first pair 'issues' were isolated. They are not. 2nd pair squeaks worse than first. Both pairs will be returned. Whether I return as a customer remains to be scene. AE clearly doesn't value their customers time, their brand or reputation by continuing to sell shoes they know to be defective. Very, very disappointing. January 31, 2015
Stylish orthotic shoe Good looking shoe. Does not have the "clunky" appearance of other orthotic shoes. Would like it better if it was a little lighter in weight. January 11, 2015

Answer:
The Ashton typically uses the 30" black dawhyde as a replacement lace. If you have a larger foot above a 120 D a 33" lace is often recommended.

Answer:
The Ashton and the Benton styles are both constructed on the 678 last and as a result will have the same fit. The 678 last is modeled for the average foot but with a fuller fit and additional depth to accommodate an Allen Edmonds orthotic insole. We also recommend checking out our style made on the 511 last which is similar to the 678 last from heel to the ball of the foot, yet with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe; the 511 last styles, however, do not feature removable insoles. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. We suggest ordering the size recommended by our master fitters. Keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Yes, the Ashton style was designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it features a removable insole to accommodate your own custom orthotic.

Absolutely, the Ashton style was designed with a dressy fit in mind, but it can be paired with either a suit or with jeans or khakis; they are the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit. This style also features our VIP rubber sole, which is the most cushioning of the rubber sole options and perfect for those who are on their feet all day.

I do not require an orthotic insert, will this shoe fit the same as the prior version which was never billed as "orthotic?" Should I simply order the same size as an Ashton that I already have?

When the Ashton was introduced, a different style of orthotic insole was used, but other than that this style is still made on the same 8-Last (678), and so it will have the same fit.

Aside from the removable insole and the rubber sole, is there a difference in construction between the Ashton and the Walton? I ask because the Walton is now only available in black, and I might want to order an Ashton in a different color with a custom leather sole.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Ashton style is manufactured on the 8-Last (678) which is modeled after the 4-Last, but with more depth to accommodate the removable orthotic. Our Walton style is constructed on our 3-Last (73) which features more room over the instep due to being wider across the ball of the foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in most of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip.
