Surrounded by protected forests and sweeping farmland while boasting a population of a little over 1,000, Ashton, Idaho is located in the heart of the open-spaces that signifies the American West. Suitably, the style that bears the town's name is the most spacious footwear we offer. Building this five-eyelet blucher on the 8-Last creates the shoe's extra depth, which can be increased by removing the insole. This means that the Ashton can accommodate a custom orthotic or just provide that extra space for those looking for an unrestricted fit. The raised stitching on the split-toe and vamp coupled with the pre-stitched split-reverse welt gives these shoes a fresh appearance that will be at home in a casual office environment or on the weekend with khakis or jeans. We don't care if you chose them because you need the extra room or just want it; either way we know you'll be as big a fan of the Ashton as we have always been.

Squeaking Very high quality shoe and very nicely made. Only problem: it makes squeaking sound when I walk. I am hoping that the sound will go away over time, as the show get worn in, but i have a feeling it won't. I have been wearing AE for 20 years now and I continue to be impressed with their quality and fit. May 21, 2015
Finally a shoe that fits my orthotics Thank you Allen Edmonds! I finally found a shoe that fits my high arched orthotics. Kudos to my new friend Alex W., at A/E South Coast Plaza. Alex agreed that my orthotics create a unique challenge. He suggested the Ashton and it was a home run. I look forward to adding a few more options to my rotation. May 20, 2015
Squeak squeak I had been experiencing problems with my feet and desperately needed a pair of very comfortable shoes. I have always been a fan of Allen Edmonds thus I did my research and I decided to purchase this pair. I should have heeded the other reviews. This would be my 4th pair of AEs. The shoes are comfortable to wear on the street and on the subway, however once I made it to the office, each time I took a step I heard, not just me but everyone around me heard me squeak each time I took a step. This is week 2 and I had hoped that the squeaking would subside, but no such luck. ugh. Total fail by AE on this one. May 8, 2015
Wanted To Recommend But Just Can't The creaking leather was just too much to bear. Liked everything about the shoe. Fit, comfort, etc. right on the money. Creaking leather, could not handle it. Sounds like a saddle makes when put on a horse. Even when sitting and holding the shoe while gently tugging the lace up portion apart the creakiness was apparent and very annoying. Too bad. Liked everything else about the shoe. May 6, 2015

Answer:
The Ashton typically uses the 30" black dawhyde as a replacement lace. If you have a larger foot above a 120 D a 33" lace is often recommended.

Answer:
The Ashton and the Benton styles are both constructed on the 678 last and as a result will have the same fit. The 678 last is modeled for the average foot but with a fuller fit and additional depth to accommodate an Allen Edmonds orthotic insole. We also recommend checking out our style made on the 511 last which is similar to the 678 last from heel to the ball of the foot, yet with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe; the 511 last styles, however, do not feature removable insoles. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. We suggest ordering the size recommended by our master fitters. Keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

I like the style of this shoe, but I'm looking for something a bit more casual in appearance. Is it possible to order this shoe in the black wax infused leather?

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Yes, the Ashton style was designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it features a removable insole to accommodate your own custom orthotic.

Absolutely, the Ashton style was designed with a dressy fit in mind, but it can be paired with either a suit or with jeans or khakis; they are the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit. This style also features our VIP rubber sole, which is the most cushioning of the rubber sole options and perfect for those who are on their feet all day.

I do not require an orthotic insert, will this shoe fit the same as the prior version which was never billed as "orthotic?" Should I simply order the same size as an Ashton that I already have?

When the Ashton was introduced, a different style of orthotic insole was used, but other than that this style is still made on the same 8-Last (678), and so it will have the same fit.

Aside from the removable insole and the rubber sole, is there a difference in construction between the Ashton and the Walton? I ask because the Walton is now only available in black, and I might want to order an Ashton in a different color with a custom leather sole.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Ashton style is manufactured on the 8-Last (678) which is modeled after the 4-Last, but with more depth to accommodate the removable orthotic. Our Walton style is constructed on our 3-Last (73) which features more room over the instep due to being wider across the ball of the foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in most of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.
