    Allen Edmonds Recrafting
  • Proudly made in the USA at our Port Washington, Wisconsin factory

Surrounded by protected forests and sweeping farmland while boasting a population of a little over 1,000, Ashton, Idaho is located in the heart of the open-spaces that signifies the American West. Suitably, the style that bears the town's name is the most spacious footwear we offer. Building this five-eyelet blucher on the 8-Last creates the shoe's extra depth, which can be increased by removing the insole. This means that the Ashton can accommodate a custom orthotic or just provide that extra space for those looking for an unrestricted fit. The raised stitching on the split-toe and vamp coupled with the pre-stitched split double-reverse welt gives these shoes a fresh appearance that will be at home in a casual office environment or on the weekend with khakis or jeans. We don't care if you chose them because you need the extra room or just want it; either way we know you'll be as big a fan of the Ashton as we have always been.

Ashton Derby Orthotics 4.5 5 86 86
Great fit -- Too loud! Third pair of AEs, first pair of Ashtons. I have very flat feet and need a wider toe box. These are very comfortable shoes. However, as mentioned in other reviews, they SQUEAK! A LOT! Maybe it is the insole. I'll try another orthotic insole and see if that quiets the shoes. If not, I'll put up with the noise in exchange for comfort. AE take note, my co-workers don't think much of the company because of the squeaking. July 8, 2014
Great shoe however way too loud I have owned AE shoes for 20 years, including Black Ashtons purchased 8+ years ago (which have been recrafted.) I own a total of 10 pairs of AE and will buy my boys their first pair here shortly (once their feet stop growing.) Ashton was by far the best shoe I've owned which led to purchasing a brown pair in April 2014 . I thought the squeaking mentioned in other reviews would be an anomaly, but I was wrong. I gave them several months to breakin, probably wearing them 10 times and the squeaking has not gone away. There must be something different with the leather vs my old pair. Will be contacting customer service to resolve. July 7, 2014
First pair of AE's, and I'm not crazy about them This was my first pair of AE shoes. I was happy to find that AE provided many different lasts and (especially) B widths in their shoes. After trying on a dozen different pairs in the New Orleans AE shop last week, I decided to purchase these, as the fit through the midfoot and toe-box seemed great. I have now worn them three times, and I'm not overjoyed. My feet were killing me after I wore them for a full day on a business trip (outstep toebox area was in serious pain me for me for two days afterward). After yet another try at wearing them yesterday around the office (and after adding leather heel-grips to alleviate a slight slip in the heel), I've now found that they do indeed make a lot of noise (as noted in other reviews), and additionally, I'm noticing that they are "gapping" around my ankles when I step. I think my foot is narrower at the back than at the front, and there is just too much space in that area in this shoe. I'm pretty bummed out that I have now spent $400 on a pair of shoes that I'll be hesitant to wear. I'm hoping that as they break in they will fit better, but I'm worried that I won't ever wear them enough to break them in. June 3, 2014
Aggravating noise. These shoes are great looking, fit perfectly, and are comfortable right out of the box. Everything was great until I took my first step in them and they started squeaking. I read a few other reviews that mentioned this issue but hoped it wouldn't be the case for me. It was. I work in a professional office and would be uncomfortable wearing shoes this noisy. I love AE's products but, honestly, this is unacceptable for this brand. I will be returning the shoes. May 1, 2014

I need shoes that take custom made orthotics as prepared by a DPM. Can the inside of the shoe be removed and replaced by a custom made orthotic?

Yes, the Ashton style was designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it features a removable insole to accommodate your own custom orthotic.

Absolutely, the Ashton style was designed with a dressy fit in mind, but it can be paired with either a suit or with jeans or khakis; they are the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit. This style also features our VIP rubber sole, which is the most cushioning of the rubber sole options and perfect for those who are on their feet all day.

I do not require an orthotic insert, will this shoe fit the same as the prior version which was never billed as "orthotic?" Should I simply order the same size as an Ashton that I already have?

When the Ashton was introduced, a different style of orthotic insole was used, but other than that this style is still made on the same 8-Last (678), and so it will have the same fit.

Aside from the removable insole and the rubber sole, is there a difference in construction between the Ashton and the Walton? I ask because the Walton is now only available in black, and I might want to order an Ashton in a different color with a custom leather sole.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Ashton style is manufactured on the 8-Last (678) which is modeled after the 4-Last, but with more depth to accommodate the removable orthotic. Our Walton style is constructed on our 3-Last (73) which features more room over the instep due to being wider across the ball of the foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in most of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Yes, an individual can request a different sole be put on their shoe as a part of our Recrafting services in place of the style’s standard sole. However, the selection of which leather soles is limited to certain styles which include rubber, leather, and even golf soles.

Both the Ashton and Stockbridge styles are five-eyelet bluchers fully lined with calfskin leathers. These two styles are constructed on casual colored leathers, offered in our Black Custom Calf and Chili Burnished Calf.

Though similar in appearance, the Ashton and Stockbridge are quite different. For one, the Ashton style features a split-toe, while the Stockbridge is a cap-toe style. Our old Stockbridge style was manufactured on the 4-Last (234) and available with our Vibram min-lug tap sole with top lift. Meanwhile, the Ashton is constructed on our 8-Last (678) made with the VIP rubber sole. In addition, the Ashton is a very unique style, for it is a member of our Custom Orthotics Collection.

I work in a restaurant and I am looking for a comfortable shoe with a slip resistant sole. I was wondering if the VIP soles on the ashton is slip resistent enough for this type of environment. I work in the front area but constently enter the kitchen area for certain items and it is there that the floor can be a bit slick.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The VIP sole featured on the Ashton style is a rubber sole, and so is naturally slip resistant; in fact, this is our most slip resistant sole we offer. Although it is designed to give some traction, it is not designed for wearing in slick conditions, such as a kitchen floor. We recommend exercising caution when wearing this or any shoe and sole in such environments.

I just purchased my first pair of AE shoes and want to make sure they last. I noticed even light rain superficially soaks into the leather. I am worried about staining. I am so cautious to the point I feel I can't enjoy the shoe. Will a waterproofer help ease my nerves. I don't obvisouly expect to walk through puddles but don't want to have to plan what shoes I'll wear around a little rain.

I used leather protectant because one of my pairs of Ashton shoes would absorb water...not sure why...but it worked great. It did not change the look of the shoe and now the water beads up on the leather instead of soaking in.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

We do not recommend using our Spray Waterproofer for Suede, Nubuck, and Fabric Shoes by Allen Edmonds on calfskin styles like the Ashton. Instead, we recommend and offer waterproof Swims Overshoes which are a great way to protect your investments by allowing you to wear your favorite shoes regardless of weather conditions.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
