This clearance shoe is a closeout style, and is therefore limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online.

Surrounded by protected forests and sweeping farmland while boasting a population of a little over 1,000, Ashton, Idaho is located in the heart of the open-spaces that signifies the American West. Suitably, the style that bears the town's name is the most spacious footwear we offer. Building this five-eyelet blucher on the 8-Last creates the shoe's extra depth, which can be increased by removing the insole. This means that the Ashton can accommodate a custom orthotic or just provide that extra space for those looking for an unrestricted fit. The raised stitching on the split-toe and vamp coupled with the pre-stitched split-reverse welt gives these shoes a fresh appearance that will be at home in a casual office environment or on the weekend with khakis or jeans. We don't care if you chose them because you need the extra room or just want it; either way we know you'll be as big a fan of the Ashton as we have always been.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is one heavy duty shoe right here. So...had the old Granvilles for 5 years, what a great shoe. Every 6 months or so had my local cobbler do a resole/heel combo and off to work I went. Finally we parted ways! Always wanted a pair of Ashtons but they were well beyond my price range. They went on sale...price got closer! Low and behold opened up the site one morning and an additional 20%...jumped on it like a Pogo stick. Have to admit in the photos they don't look as massive as they are in person. Obviously a very well made shoe with the ability to last forever. I just want 5 years then I'm done. So I wear these 3 days a week and 3 days a week I wear my Clark streets ( another fantastic shoe)...Sundays have to wear the Flip Flops!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these shoes now that AE addressed the squeaks I have been wearing Allen Edmonds shoes for quite awhile now, and still own the original pair of La Salles I bought over 15 years ago that have been recrafted twice and still look as good as new. Now as my feet fall apart and I need to wear orthotic insoles to prevent plantar fascia pain, I found myself looking for a pair of decent shoes that can fit the insoles. I saw these shoes online and took a chance despite the negative reviews about squeaking. I received the shoes last week and (maybe foolishly) brought them with me on a business trip this week as my only pair of dress shoes. On Monday afternoon they began to squeak loudly and embarrassingly - it sounded like I was wearing rubber galoshes or something as I walked down the otherwise quiet hallways in my office. I was very concerned as I needed to wear these shoes all week (I know you're not supposed to wear them everyday, but I can't fit two pairs of dress shoes in my suitcase...). Anyway, I walked to the AE store down the street and the young lady applied some kind of magic elixir to the shoes and the squeaks vanished. Literally the shoes went from practically unwearable due to the noise to almost completely silent. I don't think I could go full ninja wearing these but I can certainly walk through an office without people looking up from their desks wondering who the clown is squeaking down the hall. And they are very, very comfortable. Not a tinge of foot pain at all. I bought the light brown color - I am going to order another pair in black, though i'd like to see AE throw in a complementary bottle of the leather conditioner that I know they're going to need.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Pair of Shoes Just purchased these shoes in Washington, DC after seeing them on sale (discount). I'm still breaking them in but there's a noise that sound squishy when I walk in them. I can wear these all day long without feeling like I need to change up. They're comfortable and very glad I purchase. Now, Allen-Edmonds, just need to make these same shoes in Burgundy or Oxblood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The shoes squeak loudly when I walk, but they are very comfortable. Very comfortable, but the leather uppers squeak loudly when I walk. This, I'm sure, embarrasses many wearers.

I have 5 pairs of your Kingsley with a "0 last", both of which you no longer make. What shoes do you have similar to the Kingsley last?

Asked by: Anonymous
The 1943 last has a soft squared toe shape for a chiseled European look. It may not be the same fit, but the overall style is similar. Feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions.

Are AE "orthotic" shoes constructed the same way as your "classic" shoes?

Specifically, I'm wondering if the soles are built to 'break in' the same way, with the footbed conforming to the shape of the foot over time. Because they use orthotics, I'm thinking, they can't be exactly the same, but maybe they are similar?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, they are constructed the same way with our traditional foot bed in which we apply a layer of shock-absorbent cork between the insole and the outsole of our shoes. The Orthotic Collection is simply designed to have more room to accommodate an orthotic. The removable insole included is a foam cushion added for extra comfort, but can be removed to insert your own. The cork layer underneath will still act as a comfortable cradle for your whole foot and the resulting imprint will be totally unique to your foot shape. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Whatever happned to the vibram soles more cmfortable than your rubber soles.

Asked by: Anonymous
We use the VIP rubber sole on the Ashton because it complements the dress look of this style while still offering more shock absorption than a standard leather sole. Vibram rubber soles have a deeper tread pattern that is typically more suitable for casual styles and boots. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Is it normal to have a mark around the cap of the shoe?

I have seen a few examples of the Ashton with a semi circular indentation/mark in the area of the shoe above the cap but below the laces. The mark appears to be the leather below it. I assumed this wasn't normal but I have heard from several owners who said their shoes were like that. Is this mark in fact normal for a split toe shoe? Should there be a visible mark showing where the leather from around the shoe ends?
Asked by: Anonymous
This pattern has always been like this, but It is more noticeable on lighter burnished leathers. The burnishing brings out the outline of the materials in that area of the shoe. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Width with/without orthotics

My AE shoes without orthotics are a perfect 12B. With an orthotic insert in a non-orthotic shoe I need a 12D to fit the orthotic. What shoe size would you recommend in the Ashton Derby? Thanks.
Asked by: Anonymous
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. For this reason, it is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet. The Ashton is constructed on the 678 Last which has a fuller fit and additional depth to accommodate your own orthotic insole. The best way to get a proper fit with your orthotic inserts is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores to increase your chances of being fit correctly. However, keep in mind that products purchased on may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

I have a pair of Ashton Derby Ortho's currently in black. What shoe lace do i need to order from you to replace what it came with from the factory?

Asked by: Anonymous
The Ashton typically uses the 30" black dawhyde as a replacement lace. If you have a larger foot above a 120 D a 33" lace is often recommended. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

All of our lasts have some degree of “swing” to the inside because feet are not entirely straight. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
