Overview

This clearance shoe is a closeout style, and is therefore limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online.

Hernando de DeSoto is considered to be the first European to cross the Mississippi River, making him one the leaders in a long line of travelers who came to America and had their lives transformed by the New World. Similarly, this slip-on's classic Venetian silhouette and lightweight, single leather sole have traveled all the way from the Italian Riviera, where it wears perfectly with shorts or linens—and no socks. The addition of an American-style penny saddle gives this handsewn just the right amount of traditional stature that pairs nicely with the unlined, supple leather construction to create a shoe that will change not only how you casually dress but also just might change how you see the world.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Reviews
Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Made it about three months. I have been wearing AE shoes for thirty plus years and have always been impressed. I bought these for a casual office shoe. At first, I was impressed. The shoes are slipper light and made of extremely soft leather. After one day, they felt like an Old friend. Unfortunately, about three months have passed and the toe pulled away from the sole. So, they are bound for the trash. A pity, really. February 7, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by 'Spot On' Gift For College Age Athletic Son At the sale price these are a good buy for college age son! Son plays college soccer and is tall - 6'3". Very picky about clothes and shoes (comfort#. He likes these shoes #10 1/2 D) which says a great deal- impressed with very soft leather and as well as the 'dressy slacks' or 'shorts' casual look. I have read the reviews about how quickly they wear out - too early to tell for us. These will not be an everyday shoe which will probably extend the life of the shoe. I suggest the Desto for the college age male focused on style and comfort who don't plan to wear everyday. November 26, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 Good product / great value The shoes are extremely light and comfortable. Perfect for those "casually dressy" situations. Extremely versatile....goes with jeans, shorts and khaki pants. September 14, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Decent shoe I love AE products, both quality and styling, appreciate that they are made employing American workers, and have at least eight varied pairs. The DeSoto, which I purchased at full price when it first came out last year, is attractive enough but the soles are a little thin and the shoe overall not up to the usual AE quality it seems, with the toe compressing and almost appearing as if the leather is ready to pull from the sole. That said, at the sale price of $117 and for occasional use and a laid-back summer look, the shoe is adequate. September 9, 2015

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The DeSoto WebGem is manufactured on the 2592 last which is a rounded, fuller toe handsewn style that can accommodate a fuller, foam sock liner and heel-to-toe padding. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.

The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused, accompanied by the packing slip and are part of our current catalog; WebGem styles may be returned however due to the limited production they may not be able to be exchanged. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

How does the Desoto compare with those? Especially in the heel. Since I can't try them on or return them, I would like an idea before I buy.

The DeSoto WebGem is manufactured on the 2592 last which is a rounded, fuller toe handsewn style that can accommodate a fuller, foam sock liner and heel-to-toe padding. The 65 Last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts is best for a long, narrow look. The 97 last it is one of Allen Edmonds early lasts; it is the best fit for the average foot and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape.
