Overview

While supplies last. Limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online.

One look at the vivid images created by iconic American artist Maxfield Parrish perfectly demonstrates the dramatic effect that texture and color can have on a composition. Similarly, both those elements have played a role in making this shoe our best-selling loafer. The underlay woven saddle and collar coupled with the classic tassel gives these hand-sewn moccasins a unique identity all their own. Perfect for someone in the market for casual footwear that goes well with dress slacks or khakis. And for those who can't decide, the Maxfield in chili burnished calf can be worn with just about anything. Add in the comfort and stability of the full leather linings and single oak leather sole, and you have a picture-perfect shoe.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Maxfield Tassel Loafers is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 181.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome shoe I'm a college student and bought these shoes over the summer. These shoes are awesome shoes, and they go well with anything from khakis to shorts and are perfect for many occasions. The shoe looks really good and the woven detailing really stands out and sets it apart from other styles out there. Definitely a worthy investment

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy overall, but still slightly disappointed I have 2 pairs of Maxfields, one in black and one in chili. The chili pair fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable. They were a little tight at first (as expected with a loafer), but quickly loosened up and molded to the shape of my foot. I can even wear them without socks and have no issues. I love the versatility of the shoe. They can be worn in a formal office setting or even paired with a set of shorts to head to the local beach bar. I was so happy with my first pair, I bought a second pair (same size and width) in black. The next size up is too big and the shoe is quite loose on my foot. It has taken me over a month to break in the black pair and they are still quite tight. I am going to have to take them somewhere to be stretched. I will say I have 5 pairs of Allen Edmonds that I wear regularly. They are all the same size and width. There are variations due to the difference use of lasts, but I am happy with the fit of every pair except the black pair of the Maxfields.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from this product is very uncomfortable! I purchase my third pair of this shoe. The first two pair (one black one brown) were great, very comfortable and wore great, I even had both pair resoled once. I purchased a new pair of black ones several months ago (on Sale) and they are totally different. The leather is hard, the size wasn't the same and they are so uncomfortable I can't wear them! I have purchased other AE shoes and they are great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An excellent shoe - but with some caveats Part of the trouble I have with AE is they make so many awesome casual styles I find myself overloaded with them, despite the fact that I only utilize them on weekends. The more dressy offerings are very good, but I find them to be more repetitive style-wise over the years. When there is something that can pull "double-duty" as both somewhat dressy and casual, that's golden for me. The Maxfield fit that bill rather nicely. Other shoes like the Kenwood are great choices too, but the woven detail just pushes the Maxfield over the top. I've worn them with dressy slacks as well as jeans and they go great with just about everything. I can't say enough about the versatility. Now, what are the issues.... First, the 114 is a tough fit, very much a "binary" type of deal. For a lot of people, one size will be too small, the next size up will be too large. There seems to be no compromise as can be done with the welts such as the 65-last styles. I brannock at a 7.5C and virtually everything I get from AE is 7D. With a 7D in these, I am very close to the front of the shoe, I have just about a nail's width to the end. So the length is short - in fact, I am pretty sure the 114 last is the shortest last of anything AE uses. Second, I've experienced this with other handsewns also but much more noticeable here - I literally tried on a 7E, a 7.5D and a 7D and the 7D fit larger than either of the other two. Little bit alarming - either they were produced at significantly different times, or ....I really don't know. Third, as a high arch person, these loafers are NOT high arch friendly. By the end of a full day's wear, they definitely bother me in that area. The vamp comes down low and the leather is quite rigid. After full break-in, this has NOT improved. It is definitely better than something like the Cody/Randolph, but definitely not a style I would recommend for severely high arches. Fourth, again after full break-in, one of the shoes has started to squeak as I walk. Not a loud squeak, but it seems like it is coming from the toe box, which has me a little worried the outsole may detach. So far nothing has happened but I'm watching out for this. Even with these setbacks, I definitely recommend these for the versatility aspect. But definitely take these issues into consideration.

Ask & Answer

I wear a Randolph penny size 6 E. Is the Maxfield loafer 6 E last the same size.?

Asked by: Anonymous
The Randolph is a very different fit from this. Based on a 6E in the Randolph, I would probably recommend a Maxfield in a 6.5EE (which is probably non-existent), followed by a 6.5EEE, followed by a 6.5E. Let me know if I'm right :)

Will the discontinued tan and black styles of Maxfield or Rye NY be replaced by anything in the catalog?

I am not crazy about the brown and black Nashua - will you be replacing the discontinued styles that had tan and black?

sizing

I recently tried on the Maxfield in my measured Brannock size and it was far too uncomfortable at the top of the foot area due to my high arches - the area with the banding and tassel pressed down hard on the top of my foot making them painful to wear more than a few minutes. Loved the look of this loafer though. Looking at the Rye, had two questions - 1. I normally wear 0.5 size down in all my AE shoes except for the 114 last which I find shorter. Would you suggest brannock size, or 0.5 sizes down for the 2592? 2. Regarding the top area / pressing down, do you think the Rye will be more forgiving for high arches or exactly the same? Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
The Maxfield and the Rye NY are constructed on different lasts so the fit will be different. The Rye NY is constructed on the 2592 Last which has a rounded, fuller toe and it's 1/8 inch longer than the Maxfield's 114 last. The added length may help with the vamp not falling as deep on the instep, however this can vary based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

what last is used for this shoe

I have always bought the Maxfield and love it I take a 14A but would like to try the cody, is the cody the same last?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Cody and the Maxfield are constructed on different lasts. The Cody Tassel Loafer is constructed on the 79 Last, which has a tapered back portion that allows for lower, shorter vamp designs creating a low fit across the top of the foot. The Maxfield is a Handsewn style constructed on the 114-Last which features a slightly shorter vamp with a more rounded toe. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Is the Maxwell Tassel loafer available in size 11 D?

Asked by: Anonymous
The two-toned Maxfield is a closeout style, and is therefore limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online. However, we recommend checking out the Maxfield in black leather or in chili leather which are still part of our current collection and are available to order in a size 11D. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.
