Overview

This clearance shoe is a closeout style, and is therefore limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online.

Growing up as someone's little brother means there can be a lot of pressure to be different from your older sibling, and a lot of times that means being a little scrappier or bolder to get noticed. For that reason, when designing the McTavish we felt a duty to make sure this rugged design stood out from its dressier relative, our Timeless Classic McAllister. Like its kin, this new handcrafted balmoral brogue features the eye-catching toe medallion as well as the brogueing on the wing, throat and backstay to make it dressy enough for business casual outfits. But it's the fact that these shoes are handcrafted with waxy distressed leather and double oak natural leather sole that truly sets them apart and makes them an instant classic. Paired with casual clothing and an energetic attitude, the McTavish is the perfect style for the modern urban man who has a presence all his own.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

Use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. Follow by applying Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Reviews
Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 241 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of my favorite pairs I don't think I wear another pair of Allen Edmonds shoes as often as the McTavish Wingtip in the Tan color. They offer a perfect balance between elegant and rugged and are ideal for everyday wear. I received repeatedly complements, not only from women but also men. The strong leather sole wears well and I find that it keeps my feet a lot cooler than rubber soles. Never thought it would make a difference but it does. I didn't have to break them in at all, but with repeated wear they become even more comfortable. Couldn't be happier with them! Hope AE will offer even more colors in the McTavish Wingtip line. Rated 4 out of 5 by shoes look great fit is an issue I need to bring them in to be stretched-they are very uncomfortable to almost painful to wear. July 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic! Most excellent looking made from quality materials that fit my 9.5 E perfectly out of the box with no break in period required. Fine for casual or business casual. Sharp looking pair of brogues. July 30, 2015

We recommend pairing the McTavish in Natural leather with the following Tan leather belts: The Teton, Cottonwood, or the South Fork. These leathers will complement each other nicely.

Hi,

I live in Qatar and tried to use your sising tool and am not comfortable with the result.

I wear a size 11.5 Medium width in Johnston and Murphy and Cole Haan. What size do you suggest I order in for these shoes.

I understand that you recommend, getting a size fitting at an AE store, or using your fitting guide, but both the options do not work for me, and hence the question.

Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes are manufactured in a variety of lasts, so fit will not only vary from other manufacturers but also from style to style. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. The Mctavish is made on the 65 Last, which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot.

Our online Shoe Fit Guide is designed to help ensure your Allen Edmonds shoes are the best possible fit, however we still recommend getting a proper fit by a master fitter in one of our retail stores. Since this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Another company offers combined sizes. My foot is medium width (D) toward the ball/front area, but I have a narrow heel (B). Your natural leather wax-infused McTavish is very interesting and would be ideal for me in my combined size.

Also, is there a list of Allen Edmonds stores? I'd like to see and try AE shoes before purchase.

Answer:
All of our 360 welt styles, including the McTavish, are manufactured on combination lasts; meaning there are two widths of difference between ball of the foot and heel. Our widths range from AAA (the narrowest) to the EEE (the widest) and D (Medium); the full range of widths are AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE. So, for example, if you are an D width, the heel will be a B width; if you are a EEE width, the heel will be an E width.

To find a local Allen Edmonds store or retailer, you can click the ‘STORES’ link at the top of our homepage where you can enter your zip code and find the stores closest to you.

I have two pairs of mctavish in natural and cognac. I was led to understand that the natural had a double oak sole and the cognac a butyl sole. Seemed easy to note difference the butyl appeared reddish. Now I have just purchased the distressed grey which are supposed to have double oak, but appear to be the colour of the butyl. Are they double oak as advertised or butyl?

Answer:
The current clearance stock of the McTavish in Grey leather has a Double Butyl Leather Sole. While more recent Butyl soles typically have a reddish tone, this tone can range from light tan to dark brown depending on the specs of manufacturing at the time the shoe was constructed. Also, due to the nature of the handcrafting process there will be some variations in color; this, however, will not affect how the butyl sole performs. We apologize for the confusion, the description will be updated soon.

Answer:
We apologize for the delay in response. The McTavish and the McAllister are both constructed on the same 65 last, so the fit will be very similar and we do typically recommend the same size on these styles. There can be some slight differences in fit due to the nature of the handcrafting process. However, we are happy to know that the size 9D worked out for you.

Answer:
Since there were no answers to my post, I just went ahead and ordered the McTavish in 9D and answer it myself. Received it yesterday and tried it on...fits almost exactly like my McAllisters in 9D, well the ankle feels just a tad bit roomier than the McAllisters, but everything else through the toe box pretty much felt the same. McTavish in 8.5D would not have fit. The McTavish is also a bit heavier than the McAllister, but that was expected due to the heavier sole. Definitely happy with the shoe.

I just purchased my second pair of McTavish Oxfords and have worn them 3-4 times now. They squeak when I walk, and I do not know if this is something that will go away once broken-in, or if there is anything else that I should do. Thanks for any help.

Answer:
Thank you for contacting us about your McTavish shoes and we apologize for the delay in response and for any inconvenience with the squeaking you report. Squeaking is a property of new leather, it happens when two pieces of leather rub against each other. We use full grain leathers and leather lining which can be susceptible to this contact. While completely natural to experience this in a new shoe, conditioner cleaner or saddle soap application will quell the noise during the initial break in period. If this has not quiet the squeak, please reach out to our online customer service team directly for further assistance. Our team can be contacted at 1-877-817-7615 or eservice@allenedmonds.com and would be happy to help.
