Overview

While supplies last. Limited to the sizes and widths that are currently available online.

Inspired by the type of boots you might wear trekking in its namesake mountains in Germany, the Odenwald's hearty roots are evident in its taller toe box, robust boot laces and durable split reverse welt. Handcrafted in the USA by expert craftsmen, this shoe also has an air of refinement that comes with artisan detailing and the finest American leathers. For instance, the black leather sourced from Horween in Chicago effortlessly plays off the brown highlights of the welt and sole to convey a classic style. The brown model is made from leather from Minnesota that is brushed off to expose a golden hue underneath that contrasts nicely with the welt and laces to create a decidedly vintage look. Fully leather lined and also featuring a playful red color whipstitch on the heel tab, the Odenwald will fit your foot comfortably and your casual style perfectly.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

These types of leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion, which has been specifically formulated for this type of leather.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome boot! I typically purchase in the store, but ordered these on clearance. This is AE pair 26 in my rotation, and these didn't disappoint. I love these boots...simple, well crafted and fit extremely well. I highly recommend purchasing this boot. March 2, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by This boot runs LARGE & WIDE!!! Received the boot today. I must own over 30 AE shoes and boots and never once had a problem with fit. These boots, though, run wide and large by at least 1/2 in length and one letter in width. There is enough room in the heel box area around the ankle to drop packets of money. They are so beautiful looking, stylishly constructed and of high quality appeal that I did not want to return them. So, I pulled out a pair of my wool socks I use when wearing my backpacker's boots trekking in the wilderness and the shoes fit fine. I had planned to take them with me to Hong Kong next week where I will need to do an on-site of about 50 miles of walking. No AE boots I ever ordered needed a "break-in" period, but walking around in these for ten minutes I saw vividly that these boots would require a break-in period. So, I closeted them and will take another trusty pair of my boots to HK that I know will not give me hotspot problems. I do look forward to breaking these boots in later and am glad I added them to my collection. Comfortable boots are boots with vibram rubber soles for walking. Smooth leather soles are not so comfortable for mileage walking and certainly not for off road use for hiking. So, AE confuses me by touting these boots' origin as "hiking boots." I am a wilderness backpacker and day hiker and these boots are not for off-road use or for use in inclement weather. But oh, they are well constructed, beautifully design, appearance of sophisticated craftsmanship and stylish looking. In summary, I recommend the boot but be aware they run wide and long. How AE got the size so wrong baffles me!!! February 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Receive compliments all the time! I absolutely LOVE these boots! With some reservations, I ordered a pair on one of AE's "seconds" sales. I have no idea what makes these seconds, because they arrived looking like brand new. They fit very well from the beginning--took maybe 3-4 wearings to get past just a wee bit of discomfort at the back of my heel. Now, they're perfect! I took the advice of others and went smaller, and glad a did. I normally take either an 8.5D or a 9D. I rolled the dice and went with an 8D, and they're spot on. I love these boots, thank you Allen Edmonds! February 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Higly recommend This is a nice pair of shoes built quality is great comfort up to a top level . durability and Brand Allen Edmonds will give you confidence. This is a very nice investment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND January 20, 2016

I could not find details on the B-34 last. I currently own the Ascher and find it a little snug in the toe area, but otherwise a very good fit.
Thank you.

The B34 last was developed as a true 'boot' last, with a wider forefoot for more room up front and a higher toe box for added volume and comfort from a profile perspective.

Answer:
Typically it's not necessary to use soaps or cleaners on brand new shoes. We recommend caring for this leather with the Leather Lotion or Premium Leather Conditioner regularly to keep the leather moisturized. The saddle soap can be used if the boots get soiled overtime.

It may be worthwhile to try them on. I prefer E to EE and these are D but I feel like they fit like an E. In summary, they run large and wide.

Mine shipped with a traditional flat light brown 33" lace on my black Odenwald. However, I prefer this darker brown tubular lace pictured here. Is this the basic glazed, or the Dawhyde? What is the difference in the two?

Thanks

Answer:
The Odenwald style includes a pair of 34” Alabaster Glazed Laces. Both the Dawhyde and the Glazed laces are coated with wax, but the Glazed laces will hold stronger for boots and chukka styles. The Dawhyde laces are thinner and we typically recommend them for many of our dress shoes.

Our customer service team will contact you directly to assist you with obtaining a pair of the replacement laces you need for your Odenwald boots.

Answer:
The Odenwald Plain-toe Boots are not designed with an orthotic fit in mind and therefore they do not feature a removable insole. Only the styles that are part of our Orthotic Collection feature removable insoles.

Answer:
David,

The Odenwald is a great boot. We would actually recommend that you do not use polish on this boot unless you needed to cover up significant scuffing. To maintain the finish and color of the leather, I would recommend our Cleaner Conditioner as a first step to clean and moisturize the leather, and our Premium Leather Conditioner as a second step to deep condition. Both can be applied with a soft cloth. Give them a good buff with a horse hair brush to bring back their shine when you're done.

We don't plan on offering the Odenwald in B widths. At this time, the B34 last only includes medium D widths. For a similar boot in a B width, you might consider the Bellevue or the Dundee styles.

I have four pairs of AE shoes all in 9.5D. These include a Belgium, Berkley, Spencer and either a Fenton or Fulton.

Those shoes fit fine.

I've read the Odenwald runs both wide and long. Would you recommend a 9.5 D or a 9D?

Answer:
The Odenwald is constructed on the B34 last which was developed as a true 'boot' last, with a wider forefoot for more room up front and a higher toe box for added volume and comfort from a profile perspective. The styles you already own are constructed on different lasts. Because each style will fit differently for each customer depending on individual foot shape, we highly recommend visiting a master fitter in one of our retail stores or retail partners. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.
