Overview

Allen Edmonds is proud of that fact that we've been making shoes in Wisconsin for almost 100 years. And so that we never forget where we came from we often visit our archives for inspiration. Created after one such trip, the Steen is an updated version of a classic silhouette that was just waiting to be brought back to life. Like perennial favorites the Delray and the LaSalle, the Steen is built on the 108 last for a sleek, refined look that only comes with an elongated forepart and tapered, flatter toe. The shoe's clean lines accentuate this slip-on's artisan details, including the handsewn box stitch on the vamp and the raised stitching on the split-toe. Handcrafted in Port Washington, WI of the finest calfskin, there is no doubt the Steen is one unforgettable shoe.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Further details and videos are available on our Caring for Your Shoes page.

Reviews
Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Looking Versatile Shoe Steen is a good looking and versatile shoe that can be worn with slacks, jeans, or shorts, and they can be worn with or without socks. I ordered a pair in dark chili. They looked very nice, but the 108 Last is not for me. The shoe was just too tight around the middle of my foot. I tried a few different sizes, unfortunately it's just not the right Last for me. I own about a dozen Allen Edmonds and have been buying them for 20 years. I've kept my shoes in excellent condition by following a few guidelines. I clean and condition my shoes before the first use. Since the shoes might have been in inventory for a while, you want to make sure the leather is hydrated before wearing them. After that it's just regular intervals of cleaning, conditioning, and polishing/shining. And of course I always use proper fitting cedar shoe trees. Another important bit of information is to not wear the same pair of shoes on successive days. This way the shoe has time to naturally dry out between wearings. July 15, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Would not recommend These shoes look a lot nicer in the online picture than they do on the foot. They do not fit nearly as well as my other Allen Edmonds (3 other pairs, minimal compared to others) these were supposed to replace my players as a go to formal shoe but they don't fit nearly as well as my other shoes, nor do they look as nice. Would not purchase again. Wish I didn't wear outside so I could return. July 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bourbon! I really like slip on dress shoes! This shoe is a modern take on the classic and I get so many compliments. The last is a little narrow in the toes and wide in the ankle but fine after break in. Beautiful Color!!! June 27, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great style and comfort. Ordered the Steen in the burnished bourbon color to compliment my blue suit. The shoes also are great for the casual wardrobe with jeans. They were delivered in 4 business days and in excellent condition. Would definitely recommend this style for any occasion. June 25, 2016

Answer:
Since Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

We suggest trying a Golden Brown Chromexcel Leather belt like the Humboldt Avenue belt, or a dress belt that has a dark tan or golden brown coloring.

Answer:
The 97 last is the best fit for the average foot and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. It lays flatter in the toe area for a classic American look. The 108 last has an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe. It is similar to the 222 last with a longer, narrower fit and a rounded toe. By selecting shoes manufactured on the last that most resembles the contours of your feet, you will achieve a superior fit, only enhancing the comfort of your shoes.

Answer:
Absolutely, the Steen is a dress loafer style that goes remarkably well with business attire. It is built on the 108 last which makes it a very sleek shoe, and it's clean lines accentuate its refined, elongated look. We suggest wearing the Black and Brown styles with darker outfits; but the Bourbon and Chili leathers are very flexible and can be worn with either dark and lighter colors. The Steen is certainly the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Answer:
All Allen Edmonds shoes feature a shank-less construction, meaning our shoes do not contain a metal shank like shoes from other brands. One major benefit of this type of construction is that Allen Edmonds shoes can pass through airport metal detectors without setting them off.

At this time, we do not offer customizations on the heels. All Allen Edmonds soles measure a 1/2” from the bottom of the sole, to the bottom of the heel.

Answer:
Traditionally, patent leather styles like our Mayfair are recommended for formal attire. However, a nicely polished calf skin shoe is perfectly acceptable to wear. You can get a high shine on the Carlyle or Vernon styles by applying our Carnauba Wax polish to the leather. We also suggest checking out our new Central Park oxford which we recommend as a go-to shoe for formal attire.
