Want timeless Strand style but with that vintage look you love? We've reinvented the Strandmok to give you just that. Crafted in the USA, this six-eyelet balmoral is now outfitted with burnished nubuck, a material with tons of natural oils that allows the leather to patina and fit specifically to your foot the more you wear it. The split reverse welt not only provides extra stability but also gives these shoes a wider, more masculine profile, making them a great alternative to boots when the weather turns chilly and you want to hit the town. Other new touches include the studded Dainite rubber sole and heel to protect you from the elements and a Poron insole for extra cushioning. Of course, the artisan elements you love about the Strand, like the captoe, perfing and pinking, are still here, so that the new Strandmok is a fresh causal shoe with a traditional lineage whose time has finally come.

Strandmok Cap-toe Oxfords with Dainite Rubber Sole is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 201.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb This is my 10th pair of Allen Edmonds. I got these in black, size 11. I've only had one out of my 10 pairs not fit true to size. These fit as expected. I put these on and immediately did 3 miles of city walking. It felt like I'd already worn these for years, they were so comfortable. This shoe is superbly versatile. I can wear it with a suit or with jeans. The rubber sole is key in bad weather. I think I'm going to need these in brown too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Pair of AE This is my second pair of AE shoes. (the first was a casual shoe purchased on-line). The quality in this shoe is superb, which I can wear for a casual outing or even as a dress shoe. I usually purchase J&M's and have massed quit a few pairs, but I can't believe the difference in quality, fit, and feel. Most of the time, there is a unspoken understanding that there is a break-in period before the shoe begains to feel comfortable. I thought this would be the case as well, but was surprised when from the onset, they felt as if I had been wearing them for quite a while. I am definitely going to start purchasing more AE shoes. As an educator, being on my feet all day, I have to make certain that aching feet are the least of my worries. I decided to go into a reatial location for this pair because after my online purchase I received an email from Barbara Lacy (Dallas retail location at West Village) thanking me for my purchase and inviting me to come in if I had an further questions or would just like to be fitted and/or see the products in person. Let me add this, I have never been treated better when purchasing shoes. I was fitted and was informed about the differences in the shoes and what would best fit me. The on-line shopping is great, but if you want to make sure you will not have any problems with your shoes in the future, I recommend visiting a retail store. In addition, I purchase a messenger bag as well. Thank you Barbara for all your insight and help, I hope AE recognizes the value you bring to their products.

Ask & Answer

The black Strandmok is a different leather than the rest. How do I care for it?

More specifically, I just got my black Strandmoks yesterday. Sadly, almost no information exists on the proper care for these particular shoes. This is unfortunate because the black is different leather (different texture, compared them at the store) and all the advice I've found is either for regular strands, suede version, numok version, the tan strandmoks, etc... nothing on the black. Do I need to do anything to them before I wear them? How will it handle rain/snow now that winter is here? I want to keep these shoes looking brand new as long as I possibly can (love the look) but details on the kind of leather and how to properly care for them are scarce. I'm scared to wear them right now because I don't know if anything needs to be done to them. How do I clean road salt and/or mud spatter off them without ruining the leather? And am I right in assuming they are not to be polished? Please, any little informational tidbits on shoe maintenance of the black strandmoks would be extremely useful. Thanks in advance. (I've fallen in love with these shoes by the way, and by extension, AE.)

If you received the black Strandmoks with the textured leather, then you'll want to use the leather conditioner to treat them. Here's how I clean my Strandmoks. Take a soft brush to clean the welt. A clean welt is noticeable. Next, I take a damp cloth and wipe down the whole shoe. I use the damp cloth for mud and salt and let them dry. Then use the AE leather conditioner. If you want to dress them up a bit, use either the neutral or black heel and edge dressing. Hope that helps!

Spotting on the tan leather

After reading through the shoe care commentary I purchased the leather lotion for the tan strandmok shoes. As the shoes dried they started to look quite spotty with light and darker patches. Reading further, the customer service input seemed to stress suede cleaning products and not the leather lotion. Since the leather lotion gave the spotty appearance I am reluctant to use another product. Would the suede cleaning systems help with irregular coloring and spotting?

What is the difference between the Strand and the Strandmok aside from the sole?

Asked by: Anonymous
Good Question. The Strand is a premier dress shoe. Fully lined, leather insole and welted with finished piping and most models are dress caliber calfskin. The Strandmok, on the other hand has thicker leather, a split reverse welt, has a fully padded leather insole, is only partially lined and isn't finished with any piping details. This makes for a more casual shoe. I noticed your favorite is the McTavish. I would image that there are similar differences between the McAllister and the McTavish. Mostly the same, but different. Hope that helps!

Best color/leather for potential wet weather?

I'm looking for a Dainite sole shoe to wear in the case of wet weather and the Strandmok is definitely a contender for me. It would seem, based on reading the other Q&A, that the various colors are made of different types of leather. So, my question is, will one color do better in wet weather? Or be easier to care for because of the finish of the leather?
Asked by: Anonymous
All colors will tolerate splashes of water to an extent. You can also use the Spray Waterproofer on the Black, Tan, Blue, and Olive to add extra protection against rain. It’s important to note, this product is not recommended on any other calfskin or leather styles, the Strandmok is the exception. We highly recommend using SWIMS overshoes to protect your investments if you expect rainy or snowy conditions. They will protect the leather against water or any damaging matter on the ground, such as salt or oils, than can easily land on your shoes as you walk in these conditions. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

In need of advice on a matching belt to be used with the Blue Strandmok

I am trying to figure out which belt(s) would work best with the blue Strandmok. I was hoping to wear this shoe both casually with dark jeans, as well as a fashion forward look with a grey suit. In such, I am looking for a belt in "dress" width to fit through the loops appropriately.
Asked by: Anonymous
We recommend pairing the Navy Leather Strandmok with the Hampton Ave belt in Blue Leather. It is 35mm (1 3/8") wide.
