Reviews
Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Another Purchase of Excellent Socks I've purchased many pairs of these socks, mostly in brown but some in black. All have held up very well. This review is for my most recent purchase. The socks received on this purchase seem well made too, same as prior purchases. No special care is needed. I just wash them in the washer's normal/casual cycle at warm and then put them in the dryer. They come out of the dryer looking fine. They don't have any detectable fad, even after many washings. The price is attractive for wool socks, especially if you buy three or more pairs. Well done Allen Edmonds. September 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfortable and resilient These socks are strong, look great and are surprisingly comfortable. You would think that merino wool socks would be hot but they aren't and they stand up to multiple washings without pilling. June 24, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by As always the fit is perfect! These socks have the ideal weight, not too heavy nor too light. They stay in place and launder well. I continue to add them as needed. June 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Close to seamless In lieu of being enable to find a true seamless sock, this is a very good substitute! These are my "go to," basic, black socks. June 12, 2016

Why is fabric softener not recommended when washing? We generally use fabric softener when washing colored clothes. Will it damage the socks?

Answer:
Fabric softeners will coat the wool fibers limiting its natural ability to manage foot temperature and moisture, not only that but they can also encourage pilling on the fabric.

Answer:
One of the things I like about these socks is that they don't fall. I've found that's probably normal for new socks but as the socks age, there's a risk that the elastic will weaken and the socks will fall. I've never had that happen with these socks, even after many washings.

Answer:
Assuming the socks fit properly over your ankle and our recommended care instructions are followed to prevent the elastic from wearing excessively, you should not have an issue with the socks sliding down.

Answer:
I haven't noticed any shrinkage, even after many washings. If there is any shrinkage, it's well hidden because the socks stretch to accommodate the foot.

I agree with other reviewers and have consistently recommended buying the largest size that will fit your foot. The sock will have a better feel and look.

Answer:
Not much shrinkage, but they will come out looking shriveled. The form doesn't stand up to washing very well.

I've only had these socks a few weeks, I've washed them in warm water with a cold double rinse. I usually use the "delicates" setting on the dryer when drying them. I haven't noticed any shrinkage.

It says these socks are "Made in USA." Does that mean you take materials from overseas and have Americans stitch them? Or is the fabric also from the USA?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Similar to our work with our leather suppliers, we have partnered with a sock manufacturer who sources wool materials both domestically and globally.

Like Allen Edmonds, this company supports producers in the United States by sourcing wool almost exclusively from American yarn spinners who purchase from American wool growers. They support domestic yarn spinners whenever possible and work with them to get the best quality natural and manmade fibers and yarn for all of our products.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I'm stuck trying to figure out which size sock to get, M or L. I see your chart says if my shoe size is 9, I could wear a M or L. I'm afraid one would be too tight or the other too loose. What would you recommend?

Answer:
If either will fit, I'd recommend large (L). The large size will give a sock that's easier to put on your foot and has more bulk. If the sock is smaller, the fabric stretches to fit the foot. It then has a thinner feel. I prefer the feel of the larger sock.

Answer:
I recommend buying the largest size that you believe will fit your foot. If you get them too small, the sock will stretch to fit your foot but because of the stretching, the fabric will be too thin on your foot. Get the larger size and the fabric will have a better, more robust, feel.

Answer:
I have size 12 feet and I prefer the XL size as I don't like to have to wrestle my socks on and prefer socks that fit but don't constrict. The XL fit and don't feel loose. You question probably is related, just a size smaller.
