Overview

When we asked Jim Dayton, an award-winning architect and protégé of Frank Gehry, to design our new retail store prototype, we never planned for him to create a shoe for us. But, by using authentic materials in his store design like Wisconsin red birch and touches of the cork that cushions our shoes, he did such a great job capturing our company's personality that we asked him to bring the same aesthetic sensibilities to a pair of shoes. And we're sure glad we did. In creating this seven-eyelet blucher boot, Dayton used his architect's sharp-eye to perfectly balance the silhouette of the rounded, full toe with the extended calf-high upper. Similarly, the orange leather lining, toe medallion and perforations on the back-stay and wingtip combine to accentuate the boot's heartier features, like the Butyl leather sole, and create a blueprint for both elegance and strength. Tucked under blue jeans or a blue suit, they present a stylish profile while providing the type of ankle stability and support not usually found in a dress shoe. A truly original boot made by a one-of-a-kind artisan, the Dalton is the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 295.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dalton Wing-Tip Boots...amazing style! I received a pair of black Dalton Wing-Tip Boots. Unfortunately, the leather/construction on the left-side of the right boot was defective. It appeared that there was a 'fold' in the leather, near the perforated detail. Surprised that this boot would have passed AE internal QA inspection. I returned the boot for an exchange. I've not heard back from AE yet, but suspect that I'll receive an email and more importantly...a replacement pair of boots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful boot Great construction and quality. I need a narrow width, and the B width didn't seem as narrow as other B width Allen-Edmonds shoes I've owned. Leather took about a week of wearing to get broken in and soft. The more you wear these boots, the more they conform to your feet and the more comfortable they become. The only pair of Allen-Edmonds shoes I've ever worn out took 12 years and 3 re-solings before I couldn't use them anymore. They're expensive to purchase, but last so long they end up being less expensive in the long run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Looks and good Quality As I expected the boot was top quality and look great. I received compliments the first time I wore them, I have three pair of Allen Edmonds shoes now and have had many others in the past and have always been satisfied. A few times that I have gone back to get the same shoe it has been discontinued but that is understandable. A company has make what sells.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These boots present very well as dress boots or dressing up my jeans and jacket. They do squeak a lot. I'm hoping that will diminish over time. Mom always said "take care of your feet". I love Allen Edmonds shoes and they are all I buy these days. Great quality, great fit, great look! I have a friend with over 25 pairs. I'm proud to be a customer. I really need to check out other items though.

What color in manistee belt would you recommend for Daulton Cordovan boots in burgundy

Asked by: Anonymous
We recommend the Cordovan Tab belt in Burgundy Shell Cordovan for the Dalton in the same leather. If you're interested in the Manistee, we suggest Oxblood which should coordinate well but keep in mind it may not be an exact match. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Can you waterproof Cordovan leather using a water repellent spray?

I just order a pair of Dalton Cordovan Dress boots and I was wondering if it would be possible to make them water resistant. I brought my oxfords to a shoe service shop and they instructed me to use a water repellent spray, allowing the shows to be water proof for three months. Because Cordovan leather is different, would you still be able to waterproof them with spray or some other material?
Asked by: Anonymous
We don't recommend using waterproofing products on fine leather. Leather is a naturally porous material and using those products will seal the pores which will affect the quality and integrity of the leather. It will also prevent blooming which occurs naturally on Shell Cordovan. The only product recommended for Shell Cordovan is our Cordovan Care Cream which is specifically formulated for this type of leather. Our Spray Waterproofer should only be used on Suede, Nubuck, or Fabric shoes. To protect your investment, we highly recommend SWIMS overshoes if you expect inclement conditions, or wearing appropriate weatherproof footwear if rain or snow are forecast. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

is this shoe waterproof?

I'm wondering whether this shoe is waterproof. Specifically, (1): will it get wet if I walk in deep snow? (2): will it get wet if there is very heavy raining (assuming using an umbrella)?
Asked by: charles
Thank you for your inquiry. The boots are not waterproof. They will get wet if exposed to any kind of precipitation.

Is the "brown" still what you used to call "chocolate" or have you changed it to the burnished brown used on all the other shoes and boots?

Not that there was a huge difference, but wasn't chocolate even darker than brown? (About as dark as the burnished parts rather than the rest).
Asked by: Jackie27
Yes, the brown Dalton is chocolate calf which is dark brown. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

How dow these fit compared to the McAllister or LGA wingtips?

The reason I ask is because I bought a pair of McAllisters a couple years ago, and they started out as incredibly uncomfortable because the last is so narrow. They're broken in and very comfy now, but I talked to one of the ladies that works there and she said the McAllister generally fits people best at about 1 size smaller than you measure and 1 to 2 sizes wider than you typically where. I need a dress shoe with more toe room.
Asked by: norm762
Daultons are cut on a different last than McAllisters and have a boxier toe. I wear size 10.5 McAllisters which are a bit tight in the toe area. I have size 11 Daultons and they fit great.

Dainite v leather v ? sole flexibility

Which sole material is most flexible?
Asked by: Ken
A leather sole will be more flexible out of the box. The Dainite sole is a dense rubber compound and it will inherently possess some stiffness initially. However, based on results from our own wear trials as well as customer feedback, the Dainite sole tends to loosen moderately over time with normal wear. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

is cordovan burgundy different from oxblood calfskin? or the same?

is cordovan burgundy different from oxblood calfskin? or the same? are the distinguishable from one another?
Asked by: DOTA_WARLORD
Genuine Shell Cordovan in Burgundy is darker than Oxblood and it's also thicker and tends to have a waxy texture. Cordovan leather is horse hide while Calfskin is hide from a young cow and they require different care.
