When we asked Jim Dayton, an award-winning architect and protégé of Frank Gehry, to design our new retail store prototype, we never planned for him to create a shoe for us. But, by using authentic materials in his store design like Wisconsin red birch and touches of the cork that cushions our shoes, he did such a great job capturing our company's personality that we asked him to bring the same aesthetic sensibilities to a pair of shoes. And we're sure glad we did. In creating this seven-eyelet blucher boot, Dayton used his architect's sharp-eye to perfectly balance the silhouette of the rounded, full toe with the extended calf-high upper. Similarly, the orange leather lining, toe medallion and perforations on the back-stay and wingtip combine to accentuate the boot's heartier features, like the Butyl leather sole, and create a blueprint for both elegance and strength. Tucked under blue jeans or a blue suit, they present a stylish profile while providing the type of ankle stability and support not usually found in a dress shoe. A truly original boot made by a one-of-a-kind artisan, the Dalton is the perfect foundation on which to build a great outfit.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Dalton Wingtip Dress Boots is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 318.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely dress boot To preface, I have a very wide foot. I generally wear size 9.5 EEEE. This was my first foray into dress boots, which I had avoided for a long time due to a general lack of wide sizes. Then I found the Dalton, which thankfully comes in EEE. While not quite EEEE, I'll take what I can get! The initial 2 or 3 wears led to some chafing, but the leather has since accommodated by hobbit feet and they feel great. Will definitely consider a pair in another color!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Beautiful boots, disappointing quality Let me start by saying that these boots are absolutely beautiful. Their looks are the reason I purchased these boots, and the only reason they got 2 stars. Now on to the negatives. I first purchased my pair of Oxblood Daltons during the RDA sale. I wore the pair for a while but finally contacted customer service to complain about the left boot being significantly narrower in the front part of the boot. I sent them in, and they agreed and sent me a second pair. Immediately upon opening the replacement pair, I noticed that the right tongue was scratched up under one of the eyelids. I had to break off a piece of stray metal from the eyelid to stop the problem from continuing. I also noticed that the right boot is a good bit darker, but I just pinned that on the handmade boots excuse. The BIGGEST problem and the reason I really dislike wearing these boots is the inside heel of the right boot has a piece of stiff support leather that pushes against the middle of my heel at all times. Whereas the left boot feels great because the support leather has a curved design, the right boot's support is flat and doesn't extend all the way up around the ball of the heel. I have been wearing these boots for some time, and my right heel ALWAYS hurts after a couple of hours. I love the looks of these boots, and whenever I see them in my closet, I get sucked into trying them out for another day of painful wear. I'm not sure what the 212 steps AE goes through, but I would just caution buyers of this boot to spend a lot of time inspecting and wearing this boot in the store before taking your specific pair home.

Does shell Cordovan burgundy changes to brown over the years of wearing the boot?

Asked by: Anonymous
Leathers tend to darken or develop a patina overtime and may change in tone as it ages. The appearance of the color will highly depend on each individual's use of care products, shoe care routine, exposure to light or elements, storage conditions, etc. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

What color in manistee belt would you recommend for Daulton Cordovan boots in burgundy

Asked by: Anonymous
We recommend the Cordovan Tab belt in Burgundy Shell Cordovan for the Dalton in the same leather. If you're interested in the Manistee, we suggest Oxblood which should coordinate well but keep in mind it may not be an exact match. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Can you waterproof Cordovan leather using a water repellent spray?

I just order a pair of Dalton Cordovan Dress boots and I was wondering if it would be possible to make them water resistant. I brought my oxfords to a shoe service shop and they instructed me to use a water repellent spray, allowing the shows to be water proof for three months. Because Cordovan leather is different, would you still be able to waterproof them with spray or some other material?
Asked by: Anonymous
We don't recommend using waterproofing products on fine leather. Leather is a naturally porous material and using those products will seal the pores which will affect the quality and integrity of the leather. It will also prevent blooming which occurs naturally on Shell Cordovan. The only product recommended for Shell Cordovan is our Cordovan Care Cream which is specifically formulated for this type of leather. Our Spray Waterproofer should only be used on Suede, Nubuck, or Fabric shoes. To protect your investment, we highly recommend SWIMS overshoes if you expect inclement conditions, or wearing appropriate weatherproof footwear if rain or snow are forecast. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

is this shoe waterproof?

I'm wondering whether this shoe is waterproof. Specifically, (1): will it get wet if I walk in deep snow? (2): will it get wet if there is very heavy raining (assuming using an umbrella)?
Asked by: charles
Thank you for your inquiry. The boots are not waterproof. They will get wet if exposed to any kind of precipitation.

Is the "brown" still what you used to call "chocolate" or have you changed it to the burnished brown used on all the other shoes and boots?

Not that there was a huge difference, but wasn't chocolate even darker than brown? (About as dark as the burnished parts rather than the rest).

How dow these fit compared to the McAllister or LGA wingtips?

The reason I ask is because I bought a pair of McAllisters a couple years ago, and they started out as incredibly uncomfortable because the last is so narrow. They're broken in and very comfy now, but I talked to one of the ladies that works there and she said the McAllister generally fits people best at about 1 size smaller than you measure and 1 to 2 sizes wider than you typically where. I need a dress shoe with more toe room.
Asked by: norm762
Daultons are cut on a different last than McAllisters and have a boxier toe. I wear size 10.5 McAllisters which are a bit tight in the toe area. I have size 11 Daultons and they fit great.
