Overview

With their recent rise in popularity, everyone is making a boat shoe – but not like this one. To make this traditional slip-on extraordinary, we outfitted it in Horween's Chromexcel leather, which is made using a recipe that's close to 100 years old. Not only does this tanning process result in the softest of materials that molds to your foot, but it also seals the leather so that it stays supple even when it goes from wet to dry so they always feel as comfortable as they did right out of the box. This theme of taking what's old and making it new can also be seen in how we've chosen the traditional look of the handsewn vamp, leather lacing, and two-eyelet instep and given it a fresh update by offering it in a variety of colors so that not only does it fit and weather like no other boat shoe but it also looks like one of a kind.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Further details and videos are available on our Caring for Your Shoes page.

Reviews
Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 69 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Allen Edmonds boat shoes are the best Top quality, great look and comfort. The photos show a nautical blue and gold accent tag on the back however my pair did not have that tag. It is too bad the tag was missing as it is a cool look/feature that sets the AE Maritime boat shoes apart from other brands. September 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great pair of casual boat shoes Been wearing these shoes every day for a month and they really hold up. The stitching and frame is very much intact but comfortable nonetheless. It took about a week to break in and hurt my ankles a bit, so I would recommend wearing them with socks during the first week. August 27, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Love the shoes but did get them on sale My Maritimes are a very good quality shoe that did fit as advertised. I was able to buy these shoes during the sale period and I believe that's what really made them special. Don't know that I would have paid full price. Bottom line, happy guy. August 23, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent quality and comfort The materials of the main body are natural. Most of the shoes you find have man made materials and they are not comfortable enough.I work from home and wear the maritime model most of the time for they are comfortable. August 20, 2016

Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes generally weigh between 3 and 4 lbs. when shipped. Shoe weight will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant.

I would like to wear these, well, near water. I was wondering if you can use a waterproofer with these or if it'd hurt the pretty leather.

Answer:
I never treat them, last longer than the sole and I get them wet repeatedly. Hose them if salt build up becomes excessive. All I've ever done. When they start to lose their grip on wet decks I resign them to the garden shed. While they remain on boat duty, they are fine for wearing to restaurants. The siped sole doesn't pick up gravel that scratches the boat's decks.
Around water, the only thing I've found that is waterproof are rubber boots. If you want them to remain new looking and rarely go near the water, any good shoe cream will work well for you.

Answer:
We use Horween’s Chromexcel leather for the Maritime style which is a leather that's infused with a heavy blend of oils. The high oil content provides good water resistance and acts as a conditioner throughout the life of the leather. Not only does this tanning process result in the softest of materials that molds to your foot, but it also seals the leather so that it stays supple even when it goes from wet to dry so they always feel as comfortable as they did right out of the box.

We do not recommend applying any waterproofing products to this or any other leather. Our Spray Waterproofer can be used for Suede, Nubuck, or Fabric styles.

Answer:
You should size them without socks. They will be very tight unless using very thin socks. You'll want to wear them barefoot in most cases. They look great with almost any attire.

At this time, there are no immediate plans to offer the Maritime in more colors other than the one's that are currently offered. Keep in mind, that while the Golden Brown is not as dark as our Dark Brown calfskin, it is darker than most tan colors.

Answer:
The Maritime style has a leather sock liner. We recommend using Allen Edmonds Cedar Shoe trees on all fine leather shoes as they will help absorb moisture and deodorize the shoes.

Yes the insole is all leather. No cloth. Get a pair of the AE cedar shoe trees and use them when your not wearing them. I've always done this and never had any trouble with odor.

Does the leather lacing follow a continuous path from the vamp to the heel which would be a single functional piece keeping the shoe tight on the heel or is it two pieces being the side lacing just decorative?

I used your sizing template and measured 12.5/B at the end of the day. I typically have purchased 12.5 AAA , AA, A and some B's with good results from Allen Edmonds. Will this B width be narrow enough for me and should I go to the 13 since you do not offer the 12.5 size?

Answer:
I normally wear a 13 AAA in AE (Strand, McCallister, Park Ave, Manchester, Ridgeway, etc). I have the 12B in the Maritime and they are just fine. Every foot is different, but with AE's return policy you should be able to try for yourself without risk.

Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet. The Maritime was constructed on our 555 Last. This last will have a shorter forepart as well as a tighter instep to account for a more snug fit.

It is vitally important to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores or retail partners to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

A good quality leather lotion seems to work fine. Or just wear them and let them age gracefully. Or some combination. It's a good quality leather--don't overthink it.

Answer:
We recommend caring for your Maritime Boat shoes with Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion. This should be applied after the shoe is cleaned with a damp cloth. Leather Lotion will provide a protective surface and enhance the rich finish of the leather. We do not recommend using any shoe polish on this style due to the contrast stitching.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Eastport is built on the 2592 Handsewn last whereas the Mairitime is built on the 555 Handsewn last. The Maritime is going to have more of a snug fit as well as a tighter instep compared to the Eastport.
