Overview

The greatest generation worked through the Depression and went on to fight and win World War II. This boot honors this generation by recreating their stylish hard working footwear with modern materials such as distressed, soft kudu leather, vintage oil-infused outsoles, and keeping the boot unlined with natural edges. These boots have a look and feel so authentic you’ll think they came straight out of your grandfather’s closet.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

These types of leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion, which has been specifically formulated for this type of leather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great urban boot. Well made, perfect fitting boot with the looks to wear anywhere. Ideal for traveling as it is rugged enough for off the street but stylish enough for the city. September 6, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Surprisingly great boot I had not really considered the Normandy - the online photos didn't do much for me. But I saw them in my local menswear / shoe store and I liked them. So I ended up with a pair in brown. This is one of the most comfortable boots I have ever had. The kudu leather is buttery soft so almost no break in. Granted these are a casual boot for jeans, cords , maybe twills. But this is going to be a great weekend boot. August 30, 2016

I fell in love with this boot when I saw it, and commend AE for making them. Except for the height, they look identical to the boots my dad wore when he landed on Omaha Beach on D+1, and they lasted over 20 years after the war.

Unfortunately, I wear 13B in all of my Allen Edmonds shoes and boots. Can I get this custom made in this size?

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in the Normandy and for your feedback on these boots. At this time it cannot be special ordered in that size. We apologize for the inconvenience. We highly recommend visiting one of our retail locations where a fitting professional can recommend the best possible size/width combination for you to try. Some customers have found the D width to be fairly universal with this boot regardless of their typical size.

Answer:
Due to the special characteristics of Kudu leather, we do not recommend using anything other than Leather Lotion or Premium Leather Conditioner on this style. We also advise against using any cleaning products as it may affect the integrity of this type of leather, which means unfortunately there is no effective way to thoroughly clean the stitching. You may try using a lightly damp cloth with water to try to minimize any stains, but otherwise, we simply suggest embracing the normal wear as part of the worn-in vintage look of this style.

Shortly after purchasing my Normandy boots I discovered a defect in one of the yellow laces, which I thought to be only a relatively minor aesthetic annoyance at the time. After a couple of months of use the lace has started to unravel. Perhaps I have simply overlooked the proper replacement laces while searching the AE website, but I suspect long yellow laces are not currently being offered.

Answer:
No, we do not recommend using the Spray Waterproofer on Kudu Leather. The Spray Waterproofer is intended only for Suede, Nubuck, and Fabric Shoes. We only recommend using Leather Lotion or Premium Leather Conditioner when caring for this style.

To provide an added layer of protection against dirt and water, we offer waterproof premium Swims Mobster Overshoes which allow you to wear your favorite shoes regardless of weather conditions.

I just picked up a pair of these boots in brown. Its my first pair of Allen Edmonds and I'm in love. I really like how the laces are tied as advertised and have been keeping them this way. I noticed after a day or two that the leather around the ankle is already starting to be indented from the lace (where the lace is wrapped around the boot). I'm not even wrapping them around the boot very tight. Being that this is my first pair and I want them to last, I'm worried that lacing the shoes as advertised will actually damage/tear the leather over time. Any thoughts on this?

Answer:
I tried it once, too. The leather indented just after that one time for a few minutes. I haven't laced it that way since.

The leather might be flexible, but I don't trust it to hold up for years lacing like that.

It's a cute, stylish advertisement, but the friction over time would cause damage.

Answer:
Kudu is a fairly sturdy leather. Having dents form is perfectly normal and with time, you may also find that the leather may lighten a bit with wear. Of the thousands of pairs of Normandy boots we have produced and are out in the market right now, we have had no reports of damage or premature wear because of lacing the boots in this manner.

Answer:
Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your service, as well as for choosing Allen Edmonds. We are happy to learn that you are pleased with the Normandy style. We chose a leather sole because it offers more flexibility, which we thought was an essential feature that would complement the ultra soft kudu leather. Rest assured that since the double oak leather sole is twice as thick as a single oak sole, you’ll get more wear out of these before you have to get the soles replaced.

Also, keep in mind that these boots are eligible for our Recrafting process. Once the boots need to be Recrafted you will have the option of converting the sole to any of our available sole options.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Just FYI for others with E (or maybe even EE) widths - the B34 last is extremely generous in the toe box. I have heard of people with wide widths going with a D and it being ok. Not sure about triple E though.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in this style and for your loyalty to Allen Edmonds. Having 50 pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes is quite an impressive collection! To answer your question, The Normandy is a seasonal boot and, in most cases, seasonal styles are only offered in the most popular sizes. If the popularity of the shoe increases, and if the style is chosen to be part of our active collections, then we tend to be able to offer it in additional size combinations.

Please know we appreciate your feedback and we'll take it into consideration for our future product development and offerings. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Likely similar to how AE re-crafts it's other footwear. Search on the AE site for the re-crafting process, which primarily involves removing the sole from the upper and replacing it, to include reshaping the upper.

Answer:
Yes, cedar shoe trees should be used on all fine leather shoes and boots. Allen Edmonds cedar shoe trees will help the leather maintain its shape and they will also help absorb excess moisture between wears.
