Overview

Transformation is good. Take the town of Nashua, New Hampshire, which almost disappeared off the map with the loss of its factories during the 1950s. But instead of giving up the town reinvented itself as a high-tech hub to become a two-time honoree as the best place to live in the United States. That kind of makeover reminds us of the style of this shoe, which takes the classic kiltie golf shoe design and revamps it into a casual moccasin. Originally, the kiltie was placed over the laces of golf spikes to keep out debris. Here, the kiltie not only adds just the right amount of sophistication but also acts as the perfect palate to allow the brown leather trim and tassels to play off the shoe's black or brown pebble grain body. By pairing this two-tone look with the slightly shorter vamp representative of the 114-Last and a tough Hamlet rubber outsole, we've also made this loafer more comfortable and rugged than ever. Among our most popular choice from the Casual Collection, the Nashua is sure to breathe new life into any man's wardrobe.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 155 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 Great shoe. My first pair lasted over 13 years!!!!!!! I love the style. I wear them most places. I have an all brown pair and the black and brown. They are very comfortable. August 21, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by First pair of AE shoes that doesn't fit well - Narrow I've purchased numerous Allen Edmonds shoes and had consistently good experience with new shoes fitting well -- nearly right out of the box. I have EEE width, which has always been part of my motivation to buy here first. I even bought this same shoe in black/brown a couple of years ago with good luck. BUT, when I received these shoes, they were unusually tight in width and toe length. I tried wearing them multiple times thinking they would give a bit, but no luck. I went to the local retail store today, and they're going to try a half-size up to see if that improves things. August 19, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sole is too thin for Allen Edmonds shoes. Overall, the shoes are OK. Wish the sole was thicker. When walking shoes feel like there's almost nothing between my feet and the pavement. July 8, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Product has great appearance. I own six pairs. Initially there were problems quickly with the sole separating from the shoe at the toe but that problem has been minimized recently. The heels wear down sooner that one would expect with regular usage. My most recent purchase was direct from the factory rather than the retail outlet and the fit was much smaller than I experienced in the past. When they fit they are quite comfortable and I like the appearance very much. June 29, 2015

Answer:
The proper care depends on the Nashua style you own. For the Black/Brown Nashua we recommend Black and Dark brown polish respectively to help maintain the color of the leather. For the Brown/Brown Nashua we recommend Dark Brown polish on the darker leather and Leather Lotion on the lighter brown leather. Finally, for the English Tan Nashua we recommend using only the Leather Lotion to prevent staining the contrast stitching. It is important to exercise caution on the two-tone styles to prevent cross-contamination of polish between the leathers.

The Nashua is limited to the two-tone and the tan leather style currently offered online. We recommend checking out the Lowry Hill Tassel Loafer which has a similar design and is offered in both black and in brown leather.

Answer:
The widths of Allen Edmonds shoes range from AAA which is the narrowest width, to EEE which the widest width. At this time we do not offer or make shoes wider than a EEE. We recommend checking out styles constructed on lasts that are roomier across the ball of the foot, such as the 606 last (Patriot loafer) or the 800 Handsewn last (Kenwood loafer).

We also highly recommend visiting a master fitter at one of our retail stores as they will be able to better guide you in finding styles that will best fit the contours of your feet.

I would consider buying this shoe on sale. I usually take AE 9.5B. But for Wilburt, a 10B was suggested by you given the last, and it works we'll for me. What would you suggest for the Nashua? Thanks.

I wear a 10 medium for Cody, as well as for Nashua. I also wear a 10 or 10.5 medium in running shoes. Nashua size seems to be fairly precise for me.

Answer:
Since each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape and the last that each style is constructed on, particularly when choosing Welted vs Handsewn styles, we highly recommend getting a proper fit by visiting a master fitter in one of our retail stores. The Nashua is constructed on the 114 Handsewn last which has a semi-round toe with a slightly shorter vamp; fuller across the ball of the foot.

If you are unable to visit one of our stores for a professional fitting, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

I have noticed some shoes have only half lining in leather, and the other half in canvas or no lining at all.

Thanks.

Answer:
The Nashua style was not designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it does not feature a removable insole. However, keep in mind that if the shoe is fit large enough, orthotics inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes.

We do manufacture a select number of styles with a removable foot bed. You can find the complete Allen Edmonds Orthotic Collection of shoes by clicking here: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

It was said above in a previous answer that the "regular" rubber outsole on the Nashua is cemented to the midsole. If this shoe is instead ordered with a custom leather outsole, would that be cemented to the midsole or sewn?

I live in Dallas Tx, and I need new rubber soles for my shoes. Can you guide me to a local shoe repair that can do this? I really love this shoe, it is the best everyday shoe that I have owned. I have had them for aprox. three years.

Thanks for your assistance.

The sole has two layers. A mid layer is stitched to the upper leather of the shoe, the lower rubber layer is glued to the mid layer - dont have an xray machine to verify this :-)

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Nashua loafer is manufactured using a Handsewn construction. For this particular style, the upper is sewn to the midsole, and the midsole is cemented to the rubber sole.

A combination of factors can cause a sole to separate; the amount of wear, how well one cares for the shoes, and even an improper fit can affect the sole. Keep in mind that at Allen Edmonds we stand behind everything we sell. We invite our customers with quality concerns or questions to contact our customer assistance center or visit any of our store managers to discuss their needs.

I love the look of these shoes, and would like to wear with a blue seersucker to a summer function. Do you think that the english tan loafer would go with the traditional blue/white seersucker suit? I would likely wear loafer socks.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Absolutely! As men’s fashion rules change, there is much more flexibility in how men dress and how one pairs their shoes with their outfit. We believe that the Nashua in Tan leather can indeed be paired with a blue and white seersucker suit.

Ultimately, what each individual chooses to pair their Allen Edmonds with is their own decision; we encourage customers to purchase and wear what they feel most comfortable in.
