Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

These types of leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Rated 5 out of 5 by Substantial shoe The shoe is as described. It will last forever. The only slight problem is that is heavier than I really wanted. August 16, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 Excellent, well made shoes that always fit and feel perfect to me. As usual this pair of shoes was comfortable from the moment I tied them up and walked around the room. This is the second pair of Voyager walking shoes I have purchased. I have them in brown and black so I probably won't need any more. However this is far from last pair of Allen Edmond shoes I'll purchase. Every pair I have owned has been of exceptional quality and fit. keep up the good work folks. I always recommend them to my friends who are looking for great shoes. August 14, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Good Quality Very Poor Fit I purchased a pair of brown Voyager Walking shoes and I wore them everyday. I purchased a second pair of blue Voyager's and they are to narrow. I can wear them a couple of hours and then have to take them off because my toes are rubbing on the inside of the shoe. The shoes are labeled a medium width but they are narrow. Never had this problem with Allen Edmonds shoes and I have been buying them for 30 years. July 26, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by They changed the insert! I bought 2 pairs, the brown and black. Got fitted in the Wilbur in the store and so I bought the same size for the Voyager online since they did not have stock in the store. The Voyager shoes have thick inserts so I exchanged one of them to a larger size, I would think the shoes would be the same fit but because of the insert, they are not. I patiently waited over a month for them to get back in stock. Just got them today, the insert changed to a thinner insert. I'm sure the old thicker insert was causing a lot of trouble because it made the sizing difficult but I ordered the larger size because of the thick insert. Now I have the larger size with the NEW thinner insert and it's a bit big.... I feel like Charlie Brown... I can't win. Also, the new black shoe I got has a white haze that is noticeable, not sure what that is, but my wife and I noticed it immediately. July 22, 2015

This October I will be traveling to Rome and I have found these shoes very comfortable for walking through many European cities. However, there are occasional rain showers in October and I would like to protect the shoes as much as possible. Is there a polish or spray that might help for a short period of time.

Answer:
We do not recommend using waterproofing products on fine leather because leather is a naturally porous and breathable material. Using these products on calfskin can affect the longevity and quality of the shoes. We advise exercising judgment if you expect rainy conditions as water can cause permanent damage to leather. We offer SWIMS Overshoes which are a great way to protect your investments regardless of weather conditions.

Keep in mind also that It's important to allow the leather to rest after each wearing, specially if you expect to do a lot of walking, otherwise it can lose it's shape. We recommend rotating the shoes and wearing them no more than 2 or 3 times a week. Using our cedar shoe-trees will absorb moisture and help the leather retain its shape.

I was surprised how whitened for a navy blue color leather. The pictures don't give enough detail. Is this normal for this style and look? And, wouldn't saddle soap only darken the leather?

Answer:
I have this shoe in Black, Light Brown and Blue and yes when they arrived they all had a "white" coating. I use only leather cream on my shoes and over time this works into the leather and removes most of the Whitening. If the shoes sit in the box for a while the white returns but again one coating of cream and they darken up.

Answer:
Our current stock has some variations within the accepted color range for the Navy leather, therefore some pairs are slightly lighter or darker than others. The tanning process this leather goes through creates some pretty unique colorations in the leather, so because of this reason as well as the handcrafted finishing process, no two pairs will ever exactly the same. Saddle Soap can darken leather slightly, but typically this is relatively insignificant.

Hello Customer Service,

Are the soles the same as used on your new Road Warrior shoes like the LAX or are they different? If different which one would last longer (soles) the Voyager or Road Warrior?

The other question is the type of leather for the Voyagers. I currently have the Brown Burnished leather shoe and the Brown Leather with Khaki Thread but the leathers seem different. The brown burnished pair seem very stiff while the brown with khaki thread pair are very soft. I like the soft leather but the color does not look like what is pictured and looks like blowing shoes. How do the black compare as to looks and feel of the leather? Is it soft like the brown khaki one and do they also look like a bowling shoe in person or are they like the brown burnished?

Trying to figure out which one I want to keep or if I should go with the new Road Warriors.

thanks,
Billy

Answer:
The Voyager and the LAX feature different rubber soles but the longevity of each sole depends a lot on the type of use such as weather conditions and commute lengths. However, all things being equal, you should experience similar wear on these styles; they are both designed similarly for comfort and durability for those individuals that are on their feet for longer periods of time.

The leather used for the Voyager styles in Black, Brown, and Navy is the same type of leather just different color. The Black leather style features a khaki thread which gives it a look suitable for casual wear.

Answer:
The Voyager style features a removable insole to accommodate custom orthotics or insoles like the Superfeet insoles. Rather than having to change the shoe size you normally wear, the additional depth will help make up for the room that these insoles can take up inside the shoes.

We do not recommend using pigmented polish on the Voyager style as it will stain the contrast orange stitching. To care for the leather, we recommend our Leather Lotion or Saddle Soap.

Answer:
I've purchase through the years at least 15 pair of Allen Edmonds shoes and tried the Voyager on at the Chicago store and they seemed tight. A few weeks later, I called the 800 number and the person (in Wisconsin) clearly knew the entire Allen Edmonds line, said for this shoe I should purchase a half size larger than my normal size, so I did. They fit great. One further note. The shoes squeaked a lot at first. Some quick Google searches said to apply some baby, foot or similar powder between the inserts and since I added an arch insert I added some powder there, too. Squeaks are gone.

Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. The Voyager is constructed on the 511 last which is best for the average foot but with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit. Each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

It is vitally important to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores or retail partners to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

I will be traveling through China this summer. Lots of walking with temperatures upwards of 100 F. Sandals won't work.
I love the look and the reviews indicate that this shoe would be a good choice in a moderate climate but what about in the heat?

Answer:
I haven't used them in the heat yet. It gets over 100 here in the summers but its a dry heat and I will be trying them out. My gut tells me they will be hot because they are heavy.

They are most definetly a great walking shoe that would wear well on cobble stone streets, just not sure if they would be the shoe to wear for long periods of time in the heat.

I bet you would get some great comments on them while your walking the Great Wall of China :-)

Answer:
Absolutely, one major benefit to the Voyager style is that the upper is made of all leather which is a naturally breathable material. It features a lightweight rubber sole which makes it relatively light in weight compared to other styles and it's perfect for those that expect to do a lot of walking or be on their feet all day. The welted construction used to manufacture this style makes is eligible for our Recrafting services, so the whole sole can be replaced once it's necessary.

Keep in mind, however, that we do recommend rotating your shoes. It's important to allow the leather to rest after each wearing. Using our cedar shoe-trees will absorb moisture and help the leather retain its shape.

Allen Edmonds shoes generally weigh between 3 and 4 lbs. when shipped. Shoe weight will vary depending on the size and width of a shoe; however, these variations will be fairly insignificant.
