Overview

We named this shoe for a long-time friend and supporter of Allen Edmonds, because you can depend on it no matter who you are or your personal style. Its flexibility begins with the lower vamp and tapered construction, allowing it to fit all manner of feet comfortably and securely. The 2042 last construction also creates a sleek design that makes this shoe perfect for either the modern guy who’s looking to go sockless or the traditional guy who wants to wear them with socks and business attire. Finished with the finest calfskin leather, this agreeable slip-on might just have folks changing the saying “comrade in arms” to “friend in footwear.”

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Rated 5 out of 5 by I replaced Graysons with Acheson after 25 years and am just as pleased. B These are the best shoes I have ever worn. Just as good as my beloved Grayson's which they replaced. August 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great shoes, autentic Dress shoes price and quality is amazing !!! Is a formal dress shoe. But in my case that I am a lawyer, I used them in a normal day to work. Great shoes. July 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by What a pair of shoes... As someone who wears dress shoes 5 days a week, from time to time I find myself in a predicament at 6:15am. It begins the same way every time - where will I be today and with whom will I be meeting? After I'm able to collect my thoughts, my mind immediately grades the relative importance of the day's tasks. Invariably, if I come to the conclusion that the day in front of me is filled with high priority assignments, I find myself grabbing my Acheson tassel Dress Loafers. They help put me in the right frame of mind - and never fail to finish off my outfit in a very tasteful yet unassuming way. July 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect tassel loafer I'm usually not a huge tassel loafer fan...but for some reason this shoe is my favorite AE shoe I own. The look is very simple and understated, but I love it. It gives it a formal look, but the nature of the tassel loafer also allows it to be worn casually. No regrets about buying this shoe! Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a style through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

The Acheson is only available in the colors offered online, Black, Dark Chili, and Walnut. We recommend taking a look at the Grayson, which is a very similar style offered in Brown.

The Acheson and the Grayson are constructed on different lasts so each loafer has a unique fit. The Acheson is made on the 2042 which is a new slip-on last has a sleeker aesthetic, meaning is it slightly narrower and has a more chiseled look. The Grayson is made on the 97 last which is one of Allen Edmonds early lasts, and has a soft, slightly pointed toe. It lays flatter in the toe area for a classic American look.

Also, the Acheson features a pintuck stich on the foxing (back of the heel) while the Grayson does not have this stitching on the back.

I finally got to see this shoe in person and I guess I'm a little puzzled with its introduction. I almost couldn't tell it apart from the Grayson until I literally held them in my hands side-by-side. The Grayson is built on the 97-last - I feel like the 97 is probably going to work for the large majority of people; they may need to adjust the length and width to get a good fit but overall I think it would work. The 2042 is a much more specific type of fit that I bet probably would not work for the majority of people. On top of that, the Grayson just looked more dressy/sleek due to the tapered toe. I'm rambling, but I just don't get it.

Answer:
It’s not uncommon for Allen Edmonds to offer similar styles that are made on different lasts. This allows us to accommodate most foot shapes and sizes. For example, the MacNeil and the McGregor are both long-wingtip styles, but the MacNeil is made on the 97 last and the McGregor is made on the 65 last. The 97 last is the best fit for the average foot, but most customers prefer the long and narrow look of the 65 last. For this reason, we continue to offer styles in lasts that have an elongated and sleek look. The 2042 last complements the 65 last which is our most popular last.

I notice that the Acheson is very similar to the Grayson with a lower vamp and stitching down the heel and rear quarters. Do you plan to keep both shoes in your catalog?
I personally love the Graysons and the fact that they are made in a full size run which accommodates my very narrow foot.
