Overview

Some of the best of the best get to walk the hallowed halls of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and we've honored this historic academic town by giving one of our choicest models its name. Everything about this shoe is first-class, starting with its shell Cordovan leather exterior. The finest leather available, this material is not only soft and durable, it's certain to only look better with time. Playing off the richness of the leather, the full brogue style on this six-eyelet balmoral, which includes perfing on the wingtip, upper, eyestay and backstay and a classic medallion on the toe, conveys an air of gravitas in even the most stately of situations. Elegantly executed on the 5-Last, this shoe's Reddenbach double oak leather sole and a combination dovetail toplift add the final stunning touches to the Cambridge, an Allen Edmonds shoe for those that have already made it to the top of their class or are pushing to graduate to the next level.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its different properties. To remove any natural oils or residue in areas where the shoe flexes, and to maintain the leather's quality, simply brush the leather with a horsehair shine brush or wipe with a cotton flannel polishing cloth. Polish occasionally with Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

This shoe style is manufactured with Genuine Horween® Shell Cordovan. Click here to watch a video about the special care that goes into making Shell Cordovan, and learn about the long relationship between Allen Edmonds and Horween.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 51 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the best These shoes in burgundy are simply the highest quality and best looking dress shoes I have ever seen or worn. This is my 6th pair of AEs and by far my favorite. I don't think I will be able to go back to non-cordovan leather. July 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bought it in 1964 still use it -like new.Best Cordovan ever My first shoe was Cambridge Cordovan .Still have it and use it regularly .Since then purchased 17 Allen Edmonds and they are all superb. I have used ,Floresheims, Curch, Ecco, Mephisto ,Clarck,Bostonian,Alden,Charles Tywhitt,Nike,Merrel, but prefer Allen Edmonds to all. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by My favorite pair of AEs I have 12 pairs of AE and believe that each is very comfortable, very well made, and great looking! My favorite are my Cambridges. They are the above the rest when it comes to comfort and looks. The double oaked soles are superb, and the fit and finish is fantastic. I only wear AE dress shoes now! July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The shell cordovan experience In 1985 I bought my first pair of shell cordovan shoes after a bonus, the Brooks Brothers tassel loafers (made by Alden, which has the same cordovan leather supplier as Allen Edmunds. Over the years i switched to Allen Edmunds and enjoyed the Park Avenues, Fifth Avenue, the patent learher red lined formal shoe, and the Strand. I was age 28-45, wore only Allen Edmonds, then got into a brief Gucci loafer stage, but as they say, I found my way home. I had a very special event to attend, needed a new pair of shoes, and I carefully examined all of the shoes mentioned (I am now 56 and own all 15 original pairs I mentioned-use cedar trees and the cloth bags and they will last a lifetime), and noticed the 1985 shell cordovan tassels still looked brand new, but no longer fit, so while the leather was perfect, they were both too small and not dressy enough, but at that moment decided I needed a new pair of Allen Edmonds, but in shell cordovan and needed them fast. I went to the local store and was told they had no cordovan shoes in stock; I couldn't believe it, but wait, what about this display pair? I could tell it was cordovan leather, so they told me IF they fit, and could find its mate, I could have them. They hunted the store, found it, then spent 20 minutes polishing them for me. Sure enough, my feet have grown a half size over the years but the shell cordovan Cambridge was classic and I bought them on the spot as they fit as if the last was custom-made for me. They are, without a doubt, the best shoes I have ever owned. The shell cordovan is exquisite, it must be understood and appreciated, and from now on, my leather of choice. May 2, 2016

I live in Phoenix, our summers get pretty hot, averaging 110 degrees in the summer afternoons. Will I want to wear a AE Cordovan shoe during the Phoenix summer? Is it a much hotter shoe to wear? I am debating getting a pair of calf skin shoes (Jefferson) vs the Cordovan.

Have you done any studies to see how long calf skins last vs Cordovan, given equal care?

Thanks!

Answer:
Due to the tightness of the grain in Shell Cordovan, this type of leather does not have the tendency to ‘breath’ the same as a calfskin leather; as a result, the shoes may feel warmer.
From a wear standpoint, when properly cared for, Cordovan shoes should outlast a calfskin primarily due to the oils embedded into the shell during the tanning process which help keep the leather from drying, becoming brittle, or crack over time.

The Cambridge is manufactured on the 65 last which is the longest in length of all of our lasts; best for a long, narrow look; and often the best fit for those with high arches.

I love the quality of Allan Edmonds shoes, and own 4 pairs. I'm shopping for black dress wingtips, and don't understand why the price varies so much for similar-looking shoes.

Thanks

Answer:
Kevin,
The high price of these shoes is due to the fact that they're made from cordovan leather which is more rare and costly to produce. It's is also more durable and higher quality than calfskin. Worth the price in my opinion.

Answer:
Well, they have the cemented Dominican models for $175 up to shell cordovan at $700, but most of their dress shoes are $385 with the more casual ones at $275-$325. I believe it is the quality of the leather that accounts for the price difference. I believe they used to make some dress shoes with cheaper corrected grain leather, but not anymore. Even the casual shoes are good leather, just with some imperfections.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

Prices vary based on many factors, including but not limited to design, manufacturing, construction, and type of leather. The main difference between Calfskin styles and Cordovan styles is the source of the leather. The Cambridge is made with Genuine Shell Cordovan which is a rare kind of leather from the hind quarter of a horse, while Calfskin is from a calf. There are a number of benefits from selecting a shoe manufactured in Genuine Shell Cordovan leather; the most important is the durability and longevity of the leather upper. Cordovan is thicker and does not have the tendency to crack or tear as the shoe ages, but actually betters with age and wear.

I find that size 11 EEE is the perfect fit for me in the MacNeil and Lexington style shoes. I like the looks of the Cambridge, however it appears that it is built on a last that favors a narrow foot. Should I try an 11 1/2 EEE? Or should I just forget about the styles built on a narrow last? I also have Leeds and Grayson styles that are 11 EEE, and they fit well too.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Macneil and the Grayson are manufactured on our 7-Last (97) which is the best fit for the average foot and lays flatter in the toe area. The Leeds is manufactured on our 1-Last (511) which is similar to the 7-Last from heel to ball of the foot, but with a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The Cordovan Cambridge is constructed on our 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit.

Typically the same size can be ordered in all of our shoes. However, each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Thank you for your inquiry.

The park Avenue and the Cambridge are both manufactured on the number 5 last. Both shoes will have the same fit so you would take the same size in both shoes.

When you receive the footwear, just make sure that you try the shoes on a carpet surface. Thay way if they do not fit they would be returnable.

By selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. The Cambridge and Park Avenue are constructed on the same (5-65) Last, but fit is often a matter of personal preference so trying the shoes on is the best way to differentiate between two similar shaped shoes such as these.
