Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Reviews
Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 92 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent quality, but color was off As always, the quality of Allen Edmonds did not disappointment. However, the walnut color was not as shown on the website. The actual color is more orange and flat than the richer, more textured image on the website. September 18, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good shoes, but expensive This is a great shoes... Its a little loose for me. I tried the 9.5 D and the 10D... 9.5 is tight, but the 10 is a little loose. That's the only reason I am giving it 4/5. Probably should have tried the 9.5 EE. Overall it looks great and feels good. September 14, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Classy Shoe I purchased this shoe in the walnut color first. I had to return and buy the same shoe in black as well. Beautiful shoe, a little snug in the beginning, but it forms into your foot very quickly. Excellent buy! September 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT QUALITY SHOES I purchased these shoes in the walnut color. To my surprise, not only was the coloring outstanding, so was the fit and wear. I have purchased only a few AE shoes, I believe I'll be purchasing quite a bit more. Great Shoes! August 23, 2016

Answer:
there's no arch support if that's what you're asking... it's a pretty flat sole, with a thin leather heel pad. i've yet to see if the cork footbed really "conforms" to the shape of your foot over time.

Answer:
The 1943 Last has a higher cone than the styles of our Timeless Classics collection; the "cone" is the instep area of the shoes and will cover more of your instep. Keep in mind, the Cornwallis is a Balmoral style which requires careful fitting. For this reason, we highly recommend visiting a professional fitter at one of our retail stores or retail partners where they can recommend the best possible size and width for the shape of your feet.

When the Cornwallis was first released, several people asked you to offer it in other colors, and you refused. Now that you're no longer making bourbon shoes so that you can concentrate on your core colors, is there any chance you'll revisit this decision and sell the Cornwallis in oxblood, chili, or even merlot?

Answer:
This is actually a response to Customer Service's answer to my question:

Thanks for the recommendation about the Yorktown and the Strand. I already own a Strand (in walnut), and another shoe (McGregor) in oxblood, so my question was really asked because I think the Cornwallis is a great addition to your lineup, and hope you'll make it a dress classic, thus keeping it in rotation for many, many years, and expand to the full range of colors.

In the meantime, I'll think about getting the Yorktown in chili (as I don't own a chili shoe).

Answer:
There are currently no immediate plans to expand the colors of the Cornwallis. However, we appreciate your feedback and will forward it to the appropriate department.

As an alternative, we'd like to suggest the Yorktown or the Strand as they are offered in Oxblood and Dark Chili.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Answer:
That seems way too wide - check your little toe to see how much pressure the shoe puts on it.

I had the same problem you have with the spread at the highest eyelet being too wide and I decided to bump up a width from D to E and it was a great decision - the fit was much better.

If you have access to an AE store I would recommend going in to get fitted - their sales people are great.

Answer:
I had the same issue, and they were tight. I exchanged for a 10 E which fit fine and had much better lacing. Unfortunatly they creased across the toe medallion. I don't know if this is due to the width or poor construction.

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The measurement of this space can vary between customer's depending on the height of their instep. The space should not be further apart than the tongue. An inch or less would still be appropriate.

Answer:
These are indeed Oxford or Balmoral closed laced shoes. There is brogueing on toe, but it is not a cap toe in the sense that there is not a line of stitching or seam or brogueing from sole to sole across the toe box to define a "cap".

I doubt that the Cornwallis will be released in bourbon, since bourbon was not a color that sold well. Which is unfortunate, because I always felt bourbon was a great color.

The shoe is definitely shorter than other styles. I have many AE shoes of various sizes... this is the shortest in my experience. I have to return and order size up. Caution to others who read reviews... only one stated the same experience - but it was very true.

Answer:
I asked A&E the same question regarding the Yorktown. Apparently it's similar (replacement?) to the 333, which is my favorite. I have flat feet, narrow heels, and my toes are fairly wide, the toe-box is fairly wide. I would be VERY surprised if this last works for you, but 'shoes and feet are funny'. If you go ahead and buy these shoes anyway, I'd recommend only walking on carpeted floors (watch a movie) for as long as possible, in the afternoon when your feet are most swollen, so that you can return them. Good luck!

PS, if you or anyone reading this is "new" to shoe buying, don't fall into the trap that the shoe will "wear in". Nine times out of ten, they don't and you are out of the money. It only took me a few decades to figure out that sales trick. Be smart ;)

Answer:
The 1943 Last is a derivative of our established 333 Last. We held the heel of the 333, reduced the toe length and widened the fit across the ball of the foot. It has a sophisticated shelf look and a traditional aesthetic tying back to our iconic dress lasts. It is difficult to determine a proper fit through this channel because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.
