Overview

The literal translation of Delray is "of the king", a fitting moniker given how our loyal Allen Edmonds customer has pledged his allegiance to this model, making it a top-seller year in and year out. Part of its appeal is based on the dramatic interplay between the tapered split toe and the plug overlay, two unique features rarely found on a quality dress shoe. This five-eyelet blucher is further set apart from our other formal styles because it is designed on the 8-Last to give it an elongated forepart that corresponds well with all manner of professional attire. Whether your daily outfit includes a suit or dress slacks, we assure you that the Delray will quickly become the crown jewel of your wardrobe.

A leather sole has a special feel and traditional look that can't be beat. But in certain inclement weather situations or for guys whose jobs involve lots of time on their feet, it can be good to have the traction and stability that only a rubber sole can add. So you don't have to choose between these two options, we decided to fuse them into the tap sole, a leather sole with V-tread rubber inserts on the forefoot and heel. Polished yet practical for the ultimate presence and performance, the tap sole will have you walking tall, and that's no song and dance.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Further details and videos are available on our Caring for Your Shoes page.

Reviews
Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 149 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Beautiful, but EXTREMELY narrow shoe. As a birthday gift from my wife, I decided on a pair of Allen Edmond's shoes for the first time. I fell in love with the look of the Del Ray in chili, as I am a banker and wear high-end dress shoes daily. Upon being fitted on the Brannock at an Allen Edmonds boutique, I was recommended for a size 9D. I normally wear 9.5D in all other dress shoes, and they fit very narrow and tight on the pinky toe area. I was worried about whether my feet would swim around in a bigger size, or I should stick with the 9D and let them break in. About a month later, the pain is still excruciating. Unfortunately I have worn them hoping for a break in, so there is no chance of exchanging them, but the slight pain that was felt trying them on at the store only got worse. By trying to "wiggle" my pinky toe daily to stretch out the area that is too narrow, it has left an indentation pointing out where it is. I would like to purchase the Strands, but am worried about the fit, and how my pinky toe has taken a beating. I should have stuck with my instincts and gone with the 9.5D. I hope AE figures out the length/width ratio of this model, as I would love to continue wearing, but only do when I know I don't have to hike up some stairs. May 25, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Royal and Timeless First, I will start with the things that I love about Delray. The look: it is very royal and timeless. The split-toe is detailed precision; the stitching around the top is simple and refined. Delray also has a longer, narrower fit which is great for those of us with a narrow or narrow-ish foot. Now for a few cons: When I step, there is gapping around the ankle. However, that could be contributed to the shoe still being slightly wide on me. My average shoe size is about an 8 C or 8 D, depending on the type of shoe. For Delray I ordered an 8 C and I think I should have gone with a 7.5 D; there is still just over a thumb space at the end and it is not snug around my ankle. Overall, I would strongly recommend this shoe. April 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great classy and style combination I have had a pair of black Delrays for about 8 years and they are great. I just got them recrafted, so looking forward to more years using them. I wear them for special occasions with a dark suit and they look very classy (my wife agrees). I've had about 10 pairs of AEs and these Delrays are right up there with the best I have ever had. AEs are the best! October 1, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great brand and initial appeal but painful fit I have been researching and reading about AE for a while to help me justify the fairly high cost of the shoes. I finally brought myself to purchase a Delray in black - awesome looking shoe! Very professional and classic look. Upon trying them on, they felt a little narrow on the sides, but the sales person assured me that the leather will stretch and conform to my feet. I seemed to agree as this is the case with most of my other "good quality" shoes from other brands. I have owned this Delray for over a year and it has not conformed to my feet and have cause much pain, to the point that I barely wear them and just force myself to wear them considering the amount I spent to acquire them. Hoping AE can figure this out and fix the fit of this shoe. I have also notice that this is a problem for many. I love the craftsmanship of the brand but am afraid of the pain that another AE shoe may cause my feet. November 15, 2015

Answer:
Squeaking sometimes occurs on new shoes because Allen Edmonds uses authentic leathers such as calf skin. When two pieces of new leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, a slight squeaking may occur. The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will eliminate the noise or you can apply leather lotion as a lubricant. Lotion can be found at AllenEdmonds.com, most shoe shine stands or simply visit an Allen Edmonds store and have a store associate apply the lotion for you.

Importantly, if you have any further concerns or needs please contact our online customer service team directly at eservice@allenedmonds.com or 1-877-817-7615 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-8PM CST).

Answer:
Both the Delray and the Walton are split-toe bluchers, but that's where their similarities end. They are made made on very different lasts. Also, the Delray has a single oak leather sole with a regular welt, whereas the Walton has a double oak leather sole with a split reverse welt (also called a "storm welt"). The result is that the Walton is a sturdy, "chunky" looking shoe, while the Delray is a long and elegant looking shoe. I own both styles and I like them both.

Answer:
The main difference between the Delray and the Walton is the last and the sole construction. The Delray was built on our 108 last whereas the Walton was built on the 79 Last. The 108 Last that the Delray was constructed on will have a longer and narrower fit than the Walton. The Walton has a tapered back that allows for a lower, shorter vamp. Also, the Walton was constructed with a double leather oak sole and the Delray with a single leather oak sole.

The Combination tap sole provides more traction than a leather sole, it also holds up better in wet conditions. The Delray is offered standard with a single oak leather sole. You can find by clicking on this link: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonlin...

Delray Dress Shoes

Since you quit making as many A widths. I am having a hard time finding AE shoes, which I love.

I have a pair of AE Stockridge that have the thick padded insoles that are much to tight in the laces because of my high instep. Will the Delray be the same deal? Hurts to take hit on Ebay selling them used.

What would be my best fit with AE, considering I have a 10.5A and a high instep. Leeds have worked great for the instep, but you no longer make them in A width.

Thanks.

Answer:
The Delray style does not include the PORON cushioned insole like the Stockbridge style. However, keep in mind that each style can fit differently based on individual foot shape. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, remember that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Delray and the LaSalle are very similar styles that feature the same fit as they are both manufactured on the same 8-Last (108). The difference lies in the pattern; the LaSalle features additional stitching details at the heel, as well as at the seams of the vamp and the toe.

I own the Park Avenue (65 last), Bradley (511 last), and Bridgeton (79 last ??). Of all these, the Park Avenue fits best. I have a long narrow foot, (size 11.5 B), high arches and normal tapered toe shape.

Now I am looking at the Delray (108 last). How does the fit compare to the Park Avenue? Would you recommend this or any other lasts/styles for me?

Thank you

Answer:
Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

The Park Avenue is constructed on our 5-Last (65) which is the longest in length of our lasts and fits best on a long, narrow foot. The Bradley was constructed on our 1-Last (511), which is good for the average foot and has a more rounded, fuller fitting toe. The Bridgeton is manufactured on our 9-Last (79) which has a tapered back portion that pushes the foot forward to fit low across the top of the foot rather than the instep. The Delray is constructed on our 8-Last (108), which features an elongated forepart with a tapered and flatter toe; it is similar in fit to the Park Avenue in that it is also good for a long, narrow foot. We also suggest trying styles constructed on the 3-Last (333) which has an elongated profile with a square toe shape for a more euro look.

Keep in mind that by selecting shoes manufactured on the same last that most resembles the contours of one’s feet, customers will achieve a superior fit. The best way to get a proper fit is to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores. If this is not possible, products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoe in returnable condition.
