Overview

After first stopping in the Dutch port town of Leiden, a group of English pilgrims took the ultimate gamble and set off for the New World, thereby changing the course of world history. This shoe probably won’t have that kind of impact, but we’ve taken a chance of our own by taking the classic English banker’s shoe and giving the collar a ring of exposed leather. This venture pays off handsomely as this detail of intricate craftsmanship provides a stunning artistic focal point, especially when you take a fashion risk of your own and sport these with rolled up pants and without socks. The traditional brogueing, which includes a toe medallion and strong long wing, also makes this a great shoe even if your adventures are confined to the office.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good investment I really like AE shoes for the consistent fit and quality, and this leiden is my 5th pair. Had great experience with strand, park ave and 5th ave. One miss with an overly loose 9.5E steen, maybe it's a last that doesnt work for me. This leiden is a replacement, and I will stick with laceups from now on. Keep up the good work. September 21, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice Shoe, but Flawed by Soft Toe Box This is a very nice shoe in a nice dark brown shade. It could be improved by strengthening or hardening the leather used for the toe box, which crinkles easily. By crinkle, I don't mean the straight creases across the vamp of the shoe, where you would normally expect them to appear; I mean odd and uneven crinkles on the toe box or cap, where you don't normally expect the leather to bend. The toe box does not seem to be as hard or strong as those of shoes at the same price point. August 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I got McGregor Wingtips in black, great shoes. I got McGregor Wingtips in black. I wear them once a week and it took about 8-10 weeks to break in. I love the quality and the feel. This is my first AE and I plan to buy more. July 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Respect for a great American brand I have long admired Allen Edmonds for its dedication to quality, workmanship and customer satisfaction. I have a pair of the predecessors to the Leiden, the Larchmont, in Bourbon, and I have to say it's one of the most versatile shoe styles I have because it dresses up or down and can make almost anything you're wearing look very stylish and put together! I have had numerous compliments on the shoe and am highly pleased! July 13, 2016

Answer:
You can expect an increase in volume of 3/8 of an inch between the E and the EEE. It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

What is the difference between the Leiden wingtip blucher and the McGregor? What is a 1943 last? I can't find it on your website.

Answer:
The Leiden is constructed on the 1943 last and the McGregor is constructed on the 65 Last so the fit is different. The 1943 Last is a derivative of our established 333 Last. It’s the same heel of the 333, but with reduced toe length and a widened the fit across the ball of the foot. The Leiden is also offered with a woven leather vamp.

Answer:
The Leiden is one of several long wingtips styles we offer. The design patterns are similar and fall within the same long-wing category. Other long wings we offer besides the Leiden Wingtip and the Leiden Woven Wingtip, are the McGregor, the Macneil, and the Larchmont most of them with a different last and fit.

The 1943 Last is a derivative of our established 333 Last. It’s the same heel of the 333, but with reduced toe length and a widened the fit across the ball of the foot. The 97 Last is the best fit for the average foot. It has a soft, slightly pointed toe, and it lays flatter in the toe area.
