Overview

That's right. The shoe for the man who knows that power and responsibility are not mutually exclusive but instead inextricably joined has been updated. By lifting the upper we’ve not only made the iconic long wing more prominent, we’ve also balanced the shoe’s strong demeanor with a durable oil-infused Double Butyl outsole. While the traditional brogueing highlights the time-honored handcrafting that goes into these bluchers, the cushioned Poron insole and contrast tan lining give them a youthful presence that allows them to be worn on your commute, at your job and on the town without missing a beat.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Reviews
Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 25 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by I exclusively wear Allen Edmonds I have worn McNeil's for almost 30 years. I have four pair's in black, one pair in Walnut and one in Cordovan. Clearly my go to work and dress shoe. My only complaint is that they need to bring back the Black Polished Cobbler or at least have it as a custom option. A mans dress shoe needs to shine and be distinctive. Dull black is just dull. September 9, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Finish coming of in first polish attempt I am loyal AE client but this is the second pair of shoes I am having a problem with in a short time. I wore these shoes once, then used a pea sized amount of the premium leather conditioner and the finish came right of part of the shoe. This is completely unacceptable for a shoe I've worn once and have used AE products to take care of. What worse is that after 8 pairs I had my first return due to a defective shoe and I was treated like I am an incompetent fool who does not know how to take care of his shoes by the local store staff. Very disappointed. August 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Outstanding! Bought two pairs, black and a cognac color. Out of the box a perfect fit, no breaking in. Next month a pair of cordovan. I wear only AE, expensive but worth it. Unfortunately AE is not sold where I live and I need to order on line. But now that I know which last best fits me, its an email order away July 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Shoe for Big Guys Love this shoe. The double sole makes this my favorite shoe. At six foot five, I'm a big guy, and these just "feel" like the most stable shoe I own. Love them. Classy, and timeless too. July 24, 2016

I was curious if you still recommend the "dark brown" polish for this somewhat unique pair (I enjoy the color and don't want to alter it!) and if the "grain" effect changes how the leather should be cared for at all. Thank you.

Answer:
My experience has been to use a Kiwi brown paste wax with an application brush, and a soft horse hair finishing brush to shine the shoe to a nice shine. I also leave my cedar shoe trees in the shoes while cleaning and polishing them. I have had the same shoes for about 35 years with no issues.

Answer:
We do still recommend using our Premium Shoe Polish in Dark Brown for the Brown Grain leather to maintain the color. However, depending on your individual preference, you can use either the polish or solely our Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion which is a neutral product without pigment and it's meant to condition and protect your leather shoes.

How is the grain leather produced? Is it merely stamped with a pattern or is some other process used to create the texture?

Answer:
The grain is stamped on the leather. Different stamping plates are typically used for different types of hide.

Your website indicates that 'Chili Burnished Calf' is the color for item # 1078. The 2015 Fall Styles catalog lists 'Dark Chili' as the color for this shoe. What is the actual color for this item? Is this color also known as "Bob's" Chili? Thank you very much.

What was the rationale for changing the sole on the Brown Grain version from leather to Dainite? This was a consistent change across all the other 2.0 models as well.

Also, can I get a pair of Brown Grains made up with a double oak leather sole?

Answer:
Offering the MacNeil 2.0 in the Brown Grain leather with a Dainite sole as standard option was a decision our design team made to maintain a diverse selection of styles. While the Dainite Rubber Sole tends to work well with both dress and casual shoes, the brown grain leather it's expected to be worn as a more casual style outside of the office; a rubber sole will hold up better in these less controlled environments than a leather sole.

To see if you can place a special order for the MacNeil style, and to find out more about our custom fees, please contact our customer assistance center directly at cacmail@allenedmonds.com or by calling 1-800-235-2348 (Mon-Fri 7:00AM-6PM CST) so they can determine if your specific request can be accomplished based on current availability of shoe materials and components.

The MacNeil 2.0 is constructed similar to the original version MacNeil with the cork layer bedding, however the updated version has the added comfort of the Poron insole to cradle the heel and provide better shock absorption.

Is the 2.0 replacing the original style or is it just adding an additional option?

Thank you for your interest in Allen Edmonds.

There are no plans at this time to discontinue the Macneil or the Macneil 2.0. The Macneil 2.0 was recently released to the line to offer customers the option of the Butyl Leather Sole and additional comfort with a PORON® insole.

Answer:
The main difference between the MacNeil and the MacNeil 2.0 is that the MacNeil 2.0 has been updated with a durable oil-infused Double Butyl sole while the MacNeil has a double leather oak sole. Also, the Macneil 2.0 features a PORON® insole for added comfort.
