Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

What they say about word of mouth is true, but I 1st read allot reviews as well. The one thing I did notice from reading the reviews was most people love Allen Edmonds. The lower rated reviews seemed be from online ordering. With that in mind I decided to go to an Allen Edmonds store instead. Luckily for me there is an Allen Edmonds store in Mequon WI, very close to me. For me that was the right choice. 1st pair Allen Edmonds, yes I wanted to them fit right. Julie Binsfeld was so helpful and knowledgeable. She made sure that the shoes would fit properly. I now have as Julie said “joined the club” I now have a pair of Park Avenues. These are the most comfortable dress shoes that I have ever had. Now it is my turn to spread the word about Allen Edmonds. December 26, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Looks great but poor quality The shoe looks great and it doesn't crease as much as the Lexington does. However, the quality was subpar for how much you're spending on it. I've had this for less than 5 months and wear it probably twice a week but it's already developed a hole on its sole. Despite making the effort to neither get it wet nor to not wear it as frequently, the pair managed to get worn out within a time span I wouldn't have expected for the amount I spent on it. Rated 1 out of 5 by The infamous bowing Purchased a new pair of PAs and unfortunately the right shoe has significant bowing when standing. I cannot attribute the fault solely to construction because all feet have differences but I can say that I do not have the same issue with my left foot. This leads me to believe there are issues with quality control. Now I am contemplating what to do with the shoes that haven't even seen pavement... January 3, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the best dress cap-toe Oxford in the business I am on my third pair of Park Avenues - got a new pair for dress occasions, though pair #2 still look nearly 20 years on and on their second set of soles. I can't say enough how good these shoes are. With AE, find your size and your last and your shoes will look and feel like they were made for you. These folks have stood behind their products for as long as I've been buying them. I have bought from their outlet store too, and their seconds beat most makers' first-quality. Yes, they cost money, but not more than many imports, and quality is far better. November 8, 2015

Hi,

I'm between a 12D and 12E. The 12E feels just right around the ball and front of the foot, whereas the 12D feels better in the heel and shoe opening, but a little tight and even a bit painful at the ball of the foot. Which size would you recommend? I.e. would the problem of the loose heel on the 12E be lesser than the other?

It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit. The size you choose depends on the fit you prefer; some customers prefer a snug fit while others prefer a looser fit. However, we do not recommend wearing shoes that are uncomfortable or painful to wear.

We highly recommend visiting our Allen Edmonds retail store in Salt Lake City for a professional fitting. They will be able to examine your shoes and feet to suggest a better size or even a better fitting style.

Nordstroms has 2 belts that match those shoes perfectly. One has a standard brushed steel buckle and the other has a rolling buckle, I have that one, they are great quality and an awesome match for those shoes!

The different colorations you are seeing on our photos for the Park Avenue in Walnut compared to other Walnut styles are a result of the photographer using some creative lighting; however, based on our hand burnishing technique used to finish each shoe, colors can vary. The byproduct of our hand-crafting process results in a unique and special pair of shoes each time.

Is the Fifth Avenue essentially the Park Avenue with a little more toe detail?

Is the Lexington essentially the Kenilworth with a toe cap and one more eyelet?

Can I assume that there are no sizing/fit differences between the 5th Avenue and Park Avenue? What about the Lexington vs Kenilworth?

All four styles you mention are constructed on the same 65 Last, and so as a result they will have a similar fit. The difference is the Balmoral style vs the Blucher style; Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue vs the Lexington and Kenilworth, respectively.

A Balmoral is a front-laced shoe in which the quarters meet and the vamp is stitched at the front of the throat. A Blucher is a style where the quarters flap open at the vamp, giving extra room at the throat and instep in fitting. This affects the way a shoe fits at the instep.

The Fifth Avenue does offer more detail with broguing on the toe-cap that the Park Avenue does not. The Lexington is slightly different from the Kenilworth since the Lexington is a cap-toe and the Kenilworth is a plain toe. Also the Kenilworth does have an additional eyelet as well.

It is vitally important to visit a master fitter in one of our retail stores or retail partners to increase your chances of being fit correctly. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.
