Overview

Whether it's the timeless architecture of New York's dramatic Chrysler Building or the boundless utility of a Swiss Army Knife, you just can't improve upon some ideas. For that same reason we celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the sleek design of our Park Avenue in 2010, continually one of Allen Edmonds' best sellers and the Inauguration Day footwear choice for Presidents Reagan, H.W. Bush, Clinton and G.W. Bush. Guaranteed to make a dramatic impression, this cap-toe balmoral combines a classic silhouette with unsurpassed craftsmanship to convey the serious presence necessary for anyone who leads by example and ensures the Park Avenue will perfectly suit all the most important moments in your life.

A leather sole has a special feel and traditional look that can't be beat. But in certain inclement weather situations or for guys whose jobs involve lots of time on their feet, it can be good to have the traction and stability that only a rubber sole can add. So you don't have to choose between these two options, we decided to fuse them into the tap sole, a leather sole with V-tread rubber inserts on the forefoot and heel. Polished yet practical for the ultimate presence and performance, the tap sole will have you walking tall, and that's no song and dance.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 915 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent, top-quality shoe Old-school quality, timeless style. Comfort and great looks all in one. Made in America. Long live Allen Edmonds! (Expensive for most of us but worth the reach.) September 20, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Uncomfortable I got the Park Avenue 4 months ago. This is my 1st pair of AE shoe. Wore them couple of times, the leather is too hard and it makes my feet sore for some reason. I chose to buy them after doing some research. They fit me perfectly the first time when I tried them in the store and were very comfortable. They are comfortable if I wear them for couple of hours but if I wear them for the whole work day, my feet hurt. Have to use bandages after. September 12, 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Sole wore through in 6 months of twice-a-week wear I'll start by saying that these shoes are some of the nicest looking and nicest feeling shoes I've ever worn. That said, I'm disappointed by the quality/durability. I bought one pair of black Park Avenues about 7 months ago, and have worn them about 2 days per work-week for 6 of those months - I estimate I've worn them about 50-60 times total. I've kept them out of the rain, never worn them on consecutive days, and always used shoe trees. Yet, already, one sole is worn completely through to the cork. When I originally spoke with an Allen Edmonds salesman, we specifically discussed how lack off durability and longevity of lower-quality shoes is a drawback, and how Allen Edmonds could be expected to last longer and provide more value. But now, after just 6 months of twice-a-week wear, I'm already looking at $125 for recrafting. Again, I love the look and feel of the Park Avenues, and I had been considering a pair of brown Strands as a Christmas gift to myself. But now, I'm not sure I can rationalize the $400 up-front cost if they can't be expected to provide a longer lifetime than 6 months of twice-a-week wear. September 24, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Close to a good product I am a teacher and on my feet all day. My wife insisted I buy good shoes and after extensive research we settled on Allen Edmonds. I bought a pair of the Ashton style at Nordstrom and after about two and a half years of wearing the shoes every other day the heel fell off. I sent them in for recrafting and they came back beautiful. I thought the issue was an isolated one based on the general comments about the quality of these shoes. Thus, I went back to Nordstrom and bought a pair of the Park Avenue to rotate with the Ashton. I love the way these shoes look and how they feel on my feet, even after a full day of work. However, these shoes are about a year old and I have already noticed quality issues with the heel. I have worn these shoes less than 100 times (every other day for one school year) and am frustrated that they are not living up to the quality I had been led to expect from Allen Edmonds. If I have a leather soled Park Ave, and sent it in for recrafting and a dainite outsole conversion, would it require nails to be put in the shoe, and/or changes to the footbed/insole?

Also, if I were send it back for a second recrafting(after a dainite conversion), would the recraft service revert back to a leather sole, or would it continue to be repaired with dainite?

I understand that a fee is needed for the initial conversion, but do subsequent recraftings require a conversion fee to continue using dainite?

Answer:
Thank you for your question. If you have a sole conversion done, any subsequent recrafting would keep that sole conversion in place. There is not additional work done to the insole for this type of conversion. The Dainite sole is stitched on the same way as a leather sole would be.

AE,

I am accustomed to conditioning and saddle soaping my oxfords before polishing as part of my shoe care routine. The AE store representative advised me to not condition or saddle soap the Park Avenue Oxblood oxford. The reason is due to the ingredients from the conditioner/saddle may distort the Oxblood finish. I request AE to publish a recommendation.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Will Mach

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. Saddle Soap can be used on Oxblood styles, but we do not recommend using the Conditioner Cleaner. The Cleaner Conditioner is better for shoes that are heavily soiled or that have developed product buildup over the years. You can find the care instructions for the Park Avenue (or any other style) here on our website, by clicking the 'Product Care' tab.

Answer:
The Park Avenue style was not designed with an orthotic fit in mind and so it does not feature a removable insole. However, if the shoe is fit large enough, orthotic inserts can be used in almost any of our shoes. It is important to keep in mind that the use of an orthotic will alter the way a shoe fits; we recommend trying on your orthotics with the shoes or visiting one of our master fitters at our retail stores as they can recommend the best possible fit.

The majority of our belts are offered in sizes 32-44. We suggest taking a look at the Wide Basic Dress Belt and the Manistee Dress Belt as these are offered in a wider range of sizes.

My feet are an 11EEE, but AE shoes always feel a bit snug, despite the fact that they are obviously well-made. Would getting a half-size

Answer:
Allen Edmonds shoes are constructed on a wide variety of lasts (foot molds) and each will feature unique fit characteristics. It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each last will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.

It is vitally important to visit an Allen Edmonds retail store or retail partner for a professional fitting to increase your chances of being fit correctly for each last and style. However, keep in mind that products purchased on allenedmonds.com may be returned at any time, as long as the item is unused and accompanied by the packing slip. Trying the shoes on a carpeted surface will help prevent scuffing on the sole and keep the shoes in returnable condition.

I'm a US 9.5 on a Brannock Device. I read that Last 65 is long & narrow. Should I down by half a size, or I can still order a 9.5 ?

I wear 9.5 for all my current dress shoes.

Answer:
Nothing will ever replace an actual fitment of the shoe you are considering to determine which size is best for you. That being said, personally I size down by a half on the 65 relative to my brannock. My brannock also splits the D/E width and I take an E for the 65 in calf leather, but a D fit excellent in cordovan.

I own 3 pairs of AE that by accident are all in the 511 or 1 last. I want to order a pair or Park Avenues but I have read that the 5 last is longer and narrower. I am a 10.5 D in the 1 last. Should I go with an even 10 in the PA 5 last? And should I stay with D width or go larger with E?

Andrew, just my two cents. My foot is a 12AA or even AAA in some shoes. I have worn Park Avenues for more than 40 years and the last they are built on are perfect for my foot, even snug. But that is what I like. I also own a 12AAA in the Grayson...so, you might want to think about it bit more, or even better, go try them on.

Hi,

I'm between a 12D and 12E. The 12E feels just right around the ball and front of the foot, whereas the 12D feels better in the heel and shoe opening, but a little tight and even a bit painful at the ball of the foot. Which size would you recommend? I.e. would the problem of the loose heel on the 12E be lesser than the other?

Thank you.

Answer:
I had a similar question, regarding the width of the shoes I bought. I went with 8D instead of the 8E. I have two different colors walnut and dark brown. The walnut shoes fit great but the dark brown are similar to your "little tight and even a bit painful..." comment. I've had them for 6 months and will be taking them back to get the 8Es.

Go with the E. The D is way too tight. I was sized at 11.5 E and I still need needed to get the shoes stretched because they were painfully uncomfortable when I first wore them.

Answer:
It is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit. The size you choose depends on the fit you prefer; some customers prefer a snug fit while others prefer a looser fit. However, we do not recommend wearing shoes that are uncomfortable or painful to wear.

We highly recommend visiting our Allen Edmonds retail store in Salt Lake City for a professional fitting. They will be able to examine your shoes and feet to suggest a better size or even a better fitting style.
