Overview
The Strand is Allen Edmonds CEO & President Paul Grangaard's favorite style! The relationship began in the early 1980s when, as a newly-minted banker eager for overseas experience, he had the good fortune of being transferred to Frankfurt, Germany. Given his age, inexperience and the language challenge inherent in the job, he was looking for a "credibility-enhancer" and some needed gravitas. So he bought his first pair of this distinctly American version of the classic senior executive's cap-toe brogue. When he became head of Allen Edmonds in 2008, Paul made sure they were one of the first styles reintroduced in the Timeless Classics Collection. Built on the 5-Last, these balmorals are full of personality, thanks to an array of impressive perforations plus a striking medallion on the cap toe. Perfectly complementing its design elements is this model's orderly and architectural form, which effortlessly conveys an air of achievement as well as refined elegance. This means, just as it did for Paul, that when you put on a pair of Strands, you'll elevate your game at the same time.
Allen Edmonds Shoe Care
When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Conditioner Cleaner to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.
Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

After wearing out the heels of another several pairs of my then un-recraftable dress work shoes, I took the advice of a local shoe repairman here in Madison (who showed me his AE shoes that he was wearing- and purchased nearly 45 years ago ) and bought a pair of these along with another pair. Allen Edmonds shoes are the best that I have ever owned, feeling and fitting great from the start and the Strand Cap-Toe is no exception. Eight months later, they still look and feel great and I get compliments often with these, but the customer service and the retail excellence are also why I have purchased three more pairs since. The best part is that they are crafted right here in The United States of America so it's win-win! Thanks Allen Edmonds!

First, i WANT to love Allen Edmonds. Im HOPING that i just got a bad pair of Strands that were sold as new. Picked up a pair from a brick and mortar Allen Edmond store. Since it was a new pair, i didnt really examine the shoe as well as i should have. The first problem i noticed was the leather lining in the shoe lace holes didnt line up properly. You could actually see half of the lace holes covered up by the interior lining. Its as if the lining was either cut or sewn inside the shoe incorrectly. I had to slide the laces in at a ANGLE to get them inside the shoe lace holes. Next, i noticed a CUT in the top of one of the heels. Its a NOTCH actually, as if it was chipped out, then they painted over it. Lastly, the second time i wore them, i BARELY touched the top of one shoe against the bottom of a car door, and it scratched VERY easily. I noticed another reviewer said the same thing about his strands with the rubber sole. Obviously, its something going on with the leather on the Strand. I was highly dissapointed because ive been bragging about this shoe to anybody who would listen. I hope i just got a bad pair. At almost $400, who wants ANY problem with a new pair of shoes?

I purchased this pair about 4 yrs ago from a department store, after about 6 months of wearing the shoes twice a week I wore a hole in the sole. The AE store could do nothing minus me paying for a redraft, the store replaced them at no cost. Currently they are my favorite shoe, I currently own 6 pair of AE. Can't wait to get them resold and add the tap sole.

I am a huge fan of AE shoes and despite having three pair of Strands in various finishes (brown, bourbon and walnut), I could not resist picking up a pair in the new Oxblood finish recently. If I had to only own one pair of AE shoes (god forbid), these would be it. The Oxblood finish looks absolutely stunning with a rich cordovan like hue and burnishing. It really makes these shoes stand out in a classy, understated way plus Oxblood goes with everything (blues, grays and browns). The quality and workmanship are excellent and are a great value in today's world of cheaply made shoes. I feel absolutely great when I wear them.
Guys, if you don't already own a pair (or two) of Strands, invest in yourself and get this beautiful, timeless and classic shoe.

I just acquired a new pair of Strands in walnut. The shoes are beautiful, and the fit feels great so far, but they squeak. I'm pretty certain the squeak is restricted to the tongue/laces area. Can the squeak be stopped, or are my shoes defective?

When two pieces of new leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, a slight squeaking may occur. The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will eliminate the noise or you can apply leather lotion as a lubricant. Lotion can be found at AllenEdmonds.com, most shoe shine stands or simply visit an Allen Edmonds store and have a store associate apply the lotion for you.

If I wear an 11D in the Neumok (brown distressed leather) and it fits perfectly, then do you suggest sizing up a bit for the Strand? I've heard that the leather used for the brown Neumok is a lot more flexible compared to most other AE shoes.

That is correct, while the Neumok and the Strand are constructed on the same 65 Last the fit is different. The Neumok is an unconstructed style, which means it is unlined and it will be more flexible. The Strand is lined and will not be as flexible as the Neumok. However, some customers require a different size while others don't so it is difficult to recommend a size through this channel and guarantee a proper fit because each style will fit differently based on the contours of your feet.We recommend visiting an Allen Edmonds retail store if possible for a professional fitting.
