Overview

Just like our Park Avenues, the Carlyle Hotel has a long history with American presidents. Though this new six-eyelet balmoral hasn't yet achieved the fame of its cap-toed forerunner, its name signifies the fact it has just that kind of potential. Already being called an instant classic, the understated handsewn whipstitching coupled with the burnishing on the toe allow the style's great lines and impeccable calfskin to shine. The 108 last design, which features an elongated, tapered toe, gives this dress shoe just the right amount of attitude making it perfect for the modern executive that is considered a success but still feels like he has something to prove. Finished with a regular welt, single leather sole and regular heel, the Carlyle instills confidence when you walk into any office, oval or otherwise.

Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable when worn in. Classy. I bought these shoes for my son. He had a brown pair prior to this so I knew this product was a good choice for him. He loves the comfort and the shoes are classy in appearance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too narrow. excellent shoes, except they are too narrow for me. I asked for a B and you sent a B. I guess I need at least a C, but am not sure a C was available when I made the purchase. I have been in Hawaii until 1/5/2017, and just opened the boxes yesterday. I will be returning the shoes for a wider shoe. They a nicer looking than I had expected. Seem to be very well made.

Can this shoe acomodate the more formal flat evening laces?

The style of the Carlyle lends itself to evening/ black tie use while polished to a mirror finish. However, most tuxedo shoes use flat evening laces, usually one to one and half inches wide resulting in a beautiful bow tie knot. I would like to know of this shoe would take these wider laces.
Asked by: Anonymous
We have not tried the type of lace you describe. The eyelet holes on our dress styles are roughly 3mm in diameter, which is less than 1/8". We hope this helps you determine if they will work for your laces. Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

I'm looking to waterproof these shoes, do you have any products / could you recommend any way to do this?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not recommend waterproofing our shoes, as some waterproofers can damage our finishes. We recommend using overshoes in wet conditions.

Oxblood turned white now what?

Wore my Carlyle oxbloods (non-burnished) to work the other day forgetting that there was mandatory CPR / First Aid training. We all spent a fair bit of time on our knees with "Resusci-Annie", treating for shock etc. Unfortunately, the tips of my shoes were in contact with the carpet which removed the oxblood color rendering the tips completely white. I have used the oxblood shoe polish to attempt to cover the white spots to no avail. Is there anything that can be done to save them?

It's a beautiful shoe! What's the rationale behind using flat laces, as opposed to the rounded wax laces? Do the rounded laces work style-wise, too?

Asked by: Anonymous
They simply look great on this style. The round laces work nicely too. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

Break In Period

What is the break in period for this shoe? I had mine sized in store and ordered online. I have worn them twice and both times I developed a nasty open blister beneath my right ankle. Will this eventually go away? If not I am very disappointed in my purchase as these are very expensive shoes and due to the blistering are extremely uncomfortable to wear at this point. Thanks,
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your question. There is no distinct break in period for this shoe, as it all depends on the leather itself. If you condition the leather using a leather lotion, the leather will soften and the rubbing that this is creating should go away. If the problem persists, we can definitely assist further.

Sizing toe taps & heel guards

Looking for guidance from anyone who may have applied taps and guards previously. I'm thinking a size 4 in the toe and a 5 or 6A in the heel, but recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Asked by: Anonymous
We don't recommend applying metal taps to shoes. In some cases, our Recrafting department can add plastic taps however they do not come in standard sizes for specific styles. They use what fits best without overlapping the edge. Should you have any further questions please contact our customer service team directly at 877-817-7615.
