Product Care

Allen Edmonds Shoe Care

When caring for your calfskin, use Allen Edmonds Leather Lotion to remove surface residue and to keep leather soft and pliable. To achieve a fine luster, wipe shoes with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry at room temperature. Then, apply a coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Shoe Polish with a cloth or horsehair dauber and allow to air dry.

Our new Dark Chili and Oxblood burnished leathers can be cleaned using a damp cloth to remove dirt and any residue. Follow by using a soft cloth to apply our Allen Edmonds Saddle Soap which cleans all smooth leather shoes while restoring the leather's natural oils.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be sure to talk to Allen Edmonds Store first, when sizing I had recently purchased during the November Holiday Sale online, bought 2 pairs of MacNeil's both in Oxblood, I have had issues always with width and breaking in. I ordered an 11 in EEE, and a 11.5 in EEE, I was unsure if I should take the 11 instead, but I always fall into the trap of buying to small it seems, so I called the AE Store and spoke to a very knowledgeable SA (Sales Assistant). She suggested because of the "Last" in my case to go with the 11.5 EEE, which I did and I have been very glad now for the last 2 weeks wearing them. I sent the other 11's back. A few years ago I bought a pair of MacNeil's in Chili, and it was a width of E and I really regret it because they are tight and I can't wear them for long periods, and so they are now collecting dust, but I am going to give them to a friend who takes my size. So, since the sale was still on, I ordered a Walnut in 11.5 EEE, because I felt that if I was giving away the other smaller MacNeil's I felt I wanted to replace these with the right size from the get go. So I know when they arrive they will fit perfectly because I consulted with the AE Store SA about the 11.5 EEE's and I have no worry's on break in issues, just wear them straight out of the box. I would suggest to anyone buying shoes, to get high quality cream polish, and polish them from the start before you wear them. Finally, these shoes are really well built, and you might figure the price is kind of high in some respects, but isn't that always, when you buy good stuff in the marketplace, and as my Dad always told me, "Quality is long remembered after Price is soon Forgotten", plus its made here in the "USA", right in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality. Very comfortable. My doctor recommended a wider shoe because of a torn tendon in my foot. After a long search I purchased two pairs of MacNeil's - one in black and one in walnut. Quality and service are outstanding. I have received several compliments on the walnut. These are very comfortable shoes. My purchases were completely via internet, and Allen Edmonds service was outstanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to Basics As soon as the Macneil was announced at $199, I went to the store and got myself an oxblood version. I could have waited a few days and saved another $1.50. But I just had to have them at this price. I got to say that the version with the poron insoles put me off this shoe for a while. This revised old version is just fantastic. While at the store I was flirting with Dark Chili. Just did not want to spend $400 plus on two pair. My SA found a pair of seconds in dark chili and brought them in with my purchased pair. When I picked them up the oxblood was as good as AE gets in look and fit. How boring. Now the second on the other hand was outstanding. My SA pulled the pair out and cringed a bit. The color was more like regular chili instead of dark chili but was on the dark chili number. The quarters had some wrinkling in a major way. The derby closure was misaligned, most likely because of the wrinkling from the leather and the wings were a little North West facing. This shoe was really a second. I had the SA lace the shoes diagonally, just opposite of the way the quarters were twisted. Slipped them on and I was in heaven. For all the issues that this pair had they looked fantastic. I mean they really popped. I will get around to wearing the first quality soon but I can see wearing the second a lot. All of the cosmetic blemishes really work to make this shoe look fantastic as a casual. So the dark chili got polished right away and I am wearing now. I know most people want a well made unblemished cosmetically beautiful shoe, but I am going to love dancing with this ugly duckling. I just love this shoe for all the wrong reasons.

Color?

I’m looking for this shoe in a dark brown. Is the Dark Chili the same?
Asked by: Anonymous
Dark Chili is a brown color with a red undertone. We recommend the McGregor wingtip in Brown, which is dark brown shade. http://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes/mens-shoes/dress-shoes/mcgregor-wingtips/SF4552.html Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

What is a Blucher shoe?

Asked by: Anonymous
A Blucher is a style where the quarters flap open at the vamp, giving extra room at the throat and instep in fitting. Examples of blucher styles are the Macneil, Leeds, or Badlans. It's the opposite of the balmoral style, which has a sewn, closed vamp. Examples of balmorals are the Park Avenue, McAllister, and Strand. http://www.allenedmonds.com/discover/shoes-101/glossary.html Feel free to contact us with any additional questions.

The Mc Neil Dress wingtip does not have custom sole listed. Is this intentional?

Wanted to buy it but without a custom rubber sole it is much less attractive.

My husband likes the Tate wingtip shoe style. Does that same shoe body come in a dressier heel and sole all year round look? The sole and heel of the Tate looks like winter treads. Thank you. Bev

Conditioner/Cleaner

I no longer see the allen edmonds conditioner/cleaner on the website. Is it ok to use the conditioner/cleaner on shell shoes or is not advised? Why was the conditioner/cleaner removed? Is it no longer a supported product? Should I stop using it on all my shoes?

Preparation for first wear

I just bought a pair of the cordovan MacNeil's and they look great. I've been reading online that some "prep" new cordovan shoes by waxing them before wearing them the first time and also create a vamp crease with a pen to set the creases in the leather. Do you recommend this type of prep to ready a cordovan shoe prior to a first wear?
Asked by: Anonymous
I love them and just wear them. I use a cordovan leather conditioner and that is the only special conditioning they receive. I have eight pairs of AE shoes; the MacNeils are still my favorites. I have no doubt that they will offer a lifetime of beautiful service.

Thank you for your question. I would recommend the Black Dawhyde Replacement Laces- size 30" for this style.
